The Land of Far Beyond by Enid Blyton was inspired by John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress. Blyton put her own spin for her readers. This is by far, one of my most favourite books from her and would recommend it for anyone young and old. The original copy can be found in the Public Domain.

The story is about a boy named Peter and his two sisters, Anna and Patience who set out in a group of 10, in search of the City of Happiness. If they are successful, they will be able to get rid of the burdens they carry on their backs.

In this Chapter, the seven, Peter and his sisters Anna and Patience, their friends John and Lily, and the two grown ups left Mr. Scornful and Dick Cowardly continue on.

Dick isn't the greatest companion as he always talking about all the bad things that could happen. And even though the travellers found him exasperating, he might have been right as they walk into a battle scene.

One row of soldiers guarding the path, blocking it completely and then another fighting them trying to get through. At the end of the battle, one of horses lost its rider and Dick decides he'd ride the horse back to the City of Turmoil.

That leaves just 6 of them from a group that started out as 10. Then the ones remaining realises all they could pass through as the soldiers were guarding the House of Peace which is where they are headed to, and all they had to do was ask. Poor Dick Cowardly, surely he would have faired better just staying with the group instead of turning around.
