Kites are Emasculating!

Hi fellow Ranters,

Today I wanted to add in a nice rant that I've been overdue for: Kites suck!

High Flying Failure

So the weather here has been remarkable lately, or we are just so used to the really cold temps that once it hits 60 we are running to the beach in hopes of getting some sun and fresh air.

We stopped on the way to the beach to get some things we needed and figured it might be a fun idea to get the little man a kite. Fun for him, not fun for me! Lol. Putting the thing together was easy, first one was broken thankfully we bought two. Off to a great start here! We got the kite together and when it came time to fly the thing, it refused to fly the right way, it was always upside down.

I finally get the thing to go up in the air and it was going pretty well. It was about 20 feet off the ground and I thought I was a fucking champ and then some bro comes by with his kite and shat on my dreams. He had his easily 100 feet in the air, little bastard! The little man showed me his sadness with the look in his eyes that his dad failed him, with his sub-par kite skills. Maybe that was only something I saw in my version of the story but it could have happened. Needless to say, I tried to get the kite to go higher, it budged an inch or two and then BAM, the damn thing flops and smashes down to the sand. I couldn't get it to fly again so it promptly got tossed in the trash. Dollar store kites aren't meant to be, it seems. Hopefully I can redeem myself with a better kite under 20 dollars and see if I can get the damn thing to actually work!

He was bowing to the other guy that had the far superior kite skills, can't you tell?

To show him who's boss, I filled his boots with sand! Don't give the other guy any more reason to gloat that he was better at flying than I.

After the 10 minute kite failure, we still had a lot of fun at the beach. Pride damaged, I am hoping to have a re-do at a later date or a few more until I can successfully complete a kite flying job. We built some sand castles, dug things and the little man had a lot of fun with the rain boots because now he can step in the frigid water without getting his feet wet. The water was actually incredibly warm for the time of year, apparently 60 degrees! I couldn't figure out how that was possible, given the water was 39 a week ago. Those gulf stream currents are wild it seems!

I didn't actually fill his boots with sand of course, they caught it all on their own! 😏

You had me fooled there. I was so surprised you would do such a thing and with your boy to set an example for.. phew! I can still be your friend.

Let it be known I hate wind, so kiting ain't my thing..fun to with kids though and I'm sure you'll have better luck next time when your ego recovers.

Hahah glad you didn't think I would do such a thing. I might toss some sand at him but I wouldn't fill his boots out of anything besides a joke lol.

I think if I haven't failed every other time at flying a kite I wouldn't be so hurt but those damn things are nearly impossible lol. I'll get another shot one day!

I don't mind wind, as long as it's not wind on a day that it's already just 10 degrees Fahrenheit I'm good lol

HAHAHHAHAA! A kite beef? I love it!

Jokes aside, flying a kite is a fucking nightmare! I've only tried twice in my life, failed misserably and swore that I ain't touching a kite again ahaha!

Fun Question : Have you ever skated in front of your son? I mean land a kickflip or something? Kids love weird things like this (I think)

Yeah man I can't figure out the shit that it takes in order to fly one of the dam things. I was able to skate easier than fly a kite hahaha.

Oh I know our son would love to see me skate! He's already interested in the stuff for sure but I've got a really jacked up wrist so I need to be super careful not to get hurt. The ground where we live is awful too so there isn't a smooth spot to just roll around on flat ground, it's very bumpy and lots of cracks and holes. My luck I would hit one of those lol. I'm hoping once we move to a warmer place I can slowly start to show him how to skate. One of my friends is showing his son how to skate and he landed a kick flip he was stoked. His son is 12 or 13 now though lol so a lot different hahah.
