Market Friday: Our New Normal

avatar

Hey ya!

This is my first ever post to the Market Friday community, initiated by @dswigle. I have been seeing #MarketFriday posts for a long time now, but I never had the chance to join until now.

Grocery Shopping

Grocery shopping is one of my favorite chores. It gives me (and I believe a lot of others too) a sense of relaxation. It changed during this time of pandemic though, as it has become a source of stress for me. 😅

A lot of adjustments need to be made in order to comply to the regulations, and adopt to the changing times.

Hiding behind the bushes

So I just hide beneath the bushes! LOL, no! 👀

While we normally go to a hypermarket (how they call a big grocery store) there are times when we can't avoid to go to smaller ones to quickly buy for essentials.

Here in the UAE, they have reverted capacity to 50%, so customers need to queue before they can enter.

There are of course the usual temperature checks, and the guards distribute gloves to customers before they can enter.

As for me, I stayed outside and waited because I already sent my soldier to the front lines. 🤪 That's hubby @kennyroy, successfully out of the battle zone.

Here are some of the rules that need to be followed while shopping:

  1. Wear mask and gloves all the time. While the shop can provide plastic gloves, they recommend you bring your own latex gloves which are of course, much durable.
  2. Maintain 2 meters distance from others.
  3. Those older than 60 and younger than 12, are not allowed to enter.
  4. Only 1 per family, as much as possible, to avoid over-crowding.

Cashless transactions are also recommended whenever possible. Tap-only cards are best in this situation.

A lot of these stores also offer online shopping with free delivery. This is an option I have yet to check again. The last time I tried, delivery time frame given to my order was 3 weeks. That is absurd. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, that's our new "normal" out here in Abu Dhabi, in terms of grocery shopping. How about you, has it become a relaxed in your area, or have they made tighter measures during these times?

Here in Romania lockdown is over and people are way more relaxed. Food frenzy is over. It is good that you have your husband to help you during these times😊

That is great to hear, @creativemary. Here, there is also no more "food frenzy", but I think these new regulations will stay for some time.

According to my source from the government @creativemary, normal life here will begin in August. I hope so... (^_^) But thanks be unto God, we have friends here who are ready to help in times of emergency.

Market or Grocery Friday. I just realized that we're doing that every Friday because every 2nd Friday is my Payday. 😁

I have to say that I am glad to see that they are still restricting to a point. I think if we get this virus under control, it will be better for us when the autumn comes and, as suspected, it will bring round 2 of the virus.

I am so happy you have your soldier to do your battle! :) This was a very nice #MarketFriday and it is so nice to see some from the UAE! :) I was surprised they don't let the 60-year-old people in. Who is doing their shopping for them?

This was very interesting and I hope we will see you again!!

Thanks for joining! I appreciate the love and support you are giving to #MarketFriday! Without you and people like yourself, I wouldn't be able to have such a successful challenge! I know that it is one of those challenges that take a lot of time and effort to be part of, so it means a lot to me that you participate. Thank you again for being a part of all this and I hope that you will, indeed, have a great day and week ahead!

Thank you, I really enjoyed participating. I am happy to have shared a glimpse of our life here in the UAE.

I also agree with the tighter restrictions, though they can really be uncomfortable. I think they are slowly able to control the spread here- yesterday it was 513 confirmations in 44,000 people tested. There was a point when the daily confirmations reach to over a thousand. This is during the summer months when our temperature now hits at 40°C (104°F)! We really don't want this situation to drag on up to the colder months. 😳

As for those over 60, we'll, they need to send younger family members to do the shopping for them.

I realize that that is the intent but what happens if they don't have anybody?

I know that's the concern, what if they do not have anybody. Well, I am not sure, but the UAE government must have something for them. First, most people here are expats, working class, meaning they are young and most probably won't be here beyond 60. There are no immigration programmes here of sorts, so people will leave eventually when they are no longer able to work. As for their citizens, the government must have a support for them.

I know you are right. The only people I know who are there are expats working at ridiculously awesome jobs. :)

I am sure there is something in place for them. Thanks again!
