Friday's rainy day night/morning market
Friday's rainy day night/morning market
How time flies along!
Greetings Hivers! Here's my latest entry for the Market Friday :) Always fun to do this as I just love markets. This is a market 1.5 km from my house. A nice little walk on a rainy day. Restaurants and shops come from around Phuket Island to buy in this market. Mostly wholesale, the goods are trucked in from the nearby more rural provinces. Phuket itself only produces pineapples (famous actually), bananas, and coconuts. The soil is too acidic for most agriculture apparently. Enough of my rambling on... Let's get to the rainy market day. Most of the workers are immigrants from Myanmar.
The wet walk
The central market
All the fresh veggies
Individual hat fashion
Ready to go
Despite the rain the show goes on
Fruits and fruits
Pumpkins
Lovely veggies and colors
Tea time in the market
Watermelon Thai style
They're always cheerful in the market
Pomelo and rambutan... my favourite
Longon, mangosteen, custard apple... fruit heaven
Need to get your curry paste on? He's your man!
Mini-eggplant, corn, tarot, lemon grass, green bananas. All kinds of great stuff
Mint, bok choy, cabbage, cauliflower, onions. Love them all except onions. Let's just say they don't agree with me haha.
Feel free to leave any comments below and also to...
Rambutan is monkey’s favorite too.
We think alike haha!

I am not familiar with Rambutan. What is it? What would it remind me of? I have to say that those were the first umbrellas I have seen. I lie not! I was going to ask you if you have become so native you don't need one, but, then you posted a picture with a person with one.
Surprise!
I was beginning to think nobody owned one. Please don't tell me they are tourists. Ha! I love your watermelon man! You have this uncanny ability to capture people with so much character and are able to engrave that image. I am so happy to see the local market there. I have to admit, it looks busier than DC markets do any day of the week. I am saying that because COVID has taken many off the streets at this time. Asia and Africa, being the most populated have throngs of people at the market, and yet, people are calm and relaxed about it. It is very telling of the kind of tolerance they have as a society. I find this a good thing.
You bring me markets from afar and I can only say thank you so much for this. I love it and your ramblings about the local areas and such. Thank you so much for being a part of.Thank you for providing different elements to the cultural exchange we provide here. I can say that so many people are now enjoying not only the markets and places visited, but the different cultures than their own, showing off how we are so different, but, also, showing how many things we have in common. I appreciate the love and support you give to #MarketFriday! I feel like we are getting a core group that enjoys sharing their life and the different ways of life, which is great! Such kind words! Thanks for those... Rambutan is the red furry looking fruit. Quite sweet opaque inside with a big seed. I'm thinking of what it is similar to in the West and I am failing... Umbrellas are grand as they work for sun as well as rain! People don't walk much here so not so many umbrellas about but in Penang, Malaysia they are quite popular. My last time in DC I used to go to the fresh market near the DC Armory. Not sure if its still there these days but it was cheap and great. A lot of people from the Caribbean and Africa :) The watermelon guy had a grand smile. That market keeps going all night every night no matter the weather.
The market is still at the Armory! Still cheap, although that is relative compared to what you pay. Must be the same vendors. Hehe...
Loved the watermelon guy. People are so happy and seemingly carefree, just the way to live life. It makes me happy to see pictures like that. Isn't it amazing to see markets that operate through thick and thin?
Thanks for participating! I love hearing from that end of the world!

My pleasure. Yeah after spending some much time in Asia that Armory market was my saving grace. I asked my housemate where to cheapest market was, I went there and found the vendors so friendly. Felt like a place I could really connect with people.
