Falling for the Appalachian Trail: A Market Friday Story

avatar
(Edited)

How could I resist? Everything about this day was beautiful. I perched on the boulder, drinking the coffee that I got on the run. The steep slope of the overlook catches my breath. The ridges rise, giving the landscape an interesting look to it. There is such a sense of peace here, although to be honest, I always thought I was a water person. I have almost always lived near water, ocean preferably, and yet, here I am again, fawning over the peaks and valleys. It might be this sense of wanting to hide away from the world of today. Who doesn't? But here? I can almost talk myself into believing that there is no such thing going on. Look around you. Do you see what I see?

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) I hope you will join me as we share different markets across the globe, often as unique and varied as the countries themselves. I always look forward to seeing what you send me. Come. Sit down. Relax. Enjoy the shortest trip around the globe you ever experienced, taking in a market from somewhere different than what you have. And always remember #MarketFriday loves you!

You know that it is in full bloom this weekend coming up. The colors are brilliant and the entire area is not as many people as it could be. Usually, it is bumper-to-bumper here. Even the bear is out roaming. Okay, that was an exaggeration. I saw two and they were crossing roads independent of each other. Definitely solo flyers. If you have color hanging on your trees, I hope you are getting out and taking some pictures to last through the winter! Aren't these maple leaves delectable in their colorful glory? You just cannot buy that beauty!

The Skyline Drive is 105 miles north and south along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park and is the only public road through the Park. It takes about three hours to travel the entire length of the Park on a clear day. As the Skyline Drive run is operated by the National Park Service, there is an entrance fee. You are required to pay an entrance fee in order to access Shenandoah National Park, whether you're driving on Skyline Drive or hiking in from the boundary. There are so many options for entrance passes: many more including seniors and military discounts .

Shenandoah Entrance Pass - Single Vehicle - $30.00
Unlimited entry for one vehicle and all passengers for seven consecutive days, beginning on the day of purchase. Vehicles must be private, noncommercial, and with a seating capacity of 15 or less.

Shenandoah Entrance Pass - Single Motorcycle - $25.00
Entry for one motorcycle and one passenger for seven consecutive days, beginning on the day of purchase.

Shenandoah Entrance Pass - Individual Person - $15.00
Entry for walk-up or bicycling visitors, when 16 years of age or older (children under 16 are admitted for free). Includes entering the Park by all means other than a private, non-commercial vehicle. A family traveling together shall pay no more than the vehicle fee. source

Most of the parks in Virginia are free. Much the same with Washington, DC. The Appalachian Trail runs through some part of this park and we hike another trail of it this day. If you read last week's post, you might remember that we hiked and camped on the trail. A pretty view of the landscape can be seen from this vantage point. They are called scenic overlooks, but, you would never be able to overlook this one. Oh! A lame joke!

0P2A9166.JPG

It truly has it all! 80,000 acres of it. Hiking, biking, camping, and horseback riding. If you are looking for nature and feel adventurous, I would say that you have found the place. Many beautiful waterfalls, and breathtaking mountains, and they boast more than 500 miles of hiking trails, about 75 miles from Washington, D.C.

0P2A9169.JPG

You know you cannot resist! Doyles River Trail/Big Run Loop on the Appalachian Trail at mile marker 81 on Skyline Drive. That will bring you to the parking lot. Jump on out and meet us on the trail. We have already made it to the first overlook. It is a moderate hike. I am sure there will be a few challenging miles a bit later.

0P2A9134.JPG

I resist the urge to sit under the trees and take it all in. Maybe on the way back. Now just remember, even though this seems like a nature day, it counts as a market. I paid an entrance fee, so that counts. We have gotten so very creative! Do you have a weekly market you go to? No worries! We love those too. This gives you a peek at my country and the life I lead and I get to wander the world every week and see what life is like. I find it interesting, I have learned so many things I never thought I would want to know! How about you? Have you discovered something new by reading a post?

0P2A9167.JPG

I am grateful for the signage, it keeps me honest. Also helps me not get lost. When I first started hiking out here, I worried a little about getting lost, but, I am so over that. I have honestly lost my way a little, but, get right back on track. Note: in your comment below write the words: I want to hike at the end of your comment. A small prize is involved.EDIT I ended the prize giving as it is now Saturday and the post should have been submitted already

0P2A9168.JPG

So very fragile. There was a fire here in 2017 and it is still wearing the remnants of it. Some of the pines were decimated by beetles and yet, Mother Nature is recovering nicely. What
would you do if there was a fire while you were up here? It is something one should think about before it happens.

IMG_4164.JPG

Clearly marked escape routes for you. Thank you National Park Service. They take good care of our forests. The funnest job you could ever have. that is what they say and I actually believe them. Who wouldn't love a job like that?

The hiking clubs continue to take great care of the Appalachian Trail. Have you ever been part of a hiking club or any other kind of club that volunteers?

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? I need something other than 50 pictures of the market.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess on some
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

I love my house on the shore, but, at this time of year, I love the beauty that Mother Nature provides. Okay, well, every day would do it for me. How can we not want to be part of nature?

Hehe... it is a balance. I have seen my knees blown out by 20s and 30s so it is wise to take care always. I have been running since a teenager and adapted to an easier-on-my-knees routine by 30. Not because I hurt, but, because I didn't want to be.

But that video you sent me!?? OMG EPIC!

The trail is amazing! I love that you can hike it in sections as to take it in one go takes 5 to 6 months. We have hiked quite a few sections by now and it never gets old! One with nature and the people you meet!

You are right! Autumn is spectacular, and incredibly, the trails aren't as crowded this year, but, will be in the spring at the start of the season. I can't believe so many do it in the winter, but, let me tell you, those rocks are slippery as all get out!!

Thanks for stopping by! Some day! The AT for you and Jamie!

Who would overlook any of those views! Love your sense of humour. I also always knew myself to be a water person. But then I look over 😎 the mountains and I'm almost persuaded.....almost. Now give me mountains WITH the water. Oh. That is perfection. What an incredible trail this is. And I think Fall must be the most breathtaking time of year

Oh. And here's my fun for the day

Hehe! Perfection, right? :) At this time of year, the mountains win! Their beauty is unparalleled. The colors are just magnificent this year, but, the best place for the color was New England. Nothing beats it! Next year, I'll be there for a few months, letting Autumn roll by. :)

Oh, look at you!! You go all horsey on me! I love it!!! ❤️

Wow!
An awesome place to be at one with nature.

Your hike is worth what you get. It is truly a journey that is very valuable as a medium for contemplation of the journey of life. Climbers always get more.

I have a year-end hiking agenda on a volcano that has been dormant. I heard the dead crater is very beautiful. Realy, I want to hike.

Is your dormant volcano along the Ring of Fire?

Outstanding!!!!! You want to hike!

Hello again,

I have to say that I envy you a bit haha, I want to go on an adventure a bit... And maybe I should just ignore the complications a bit and do it (?)

God, what a beautiful place ! These Appalachian hills, adorned with the colors of autumn, one would like to get lost in them...!

It's funny what you say about water people, I think that even without consciously thinking about it, I perceived you and the way you share, really like that! I think I am one of those people too, while being very earthy at the same time.

Thank you for such an engaging and appeasing walk !

Mine will be much more urban to change ^^ :

Hello! Hello!

You can make any day an adventure! When I read your words, it is always an adventure! You know exactly how to twist and turn the words to captivate the soul. It is a gift. Life will always toss in complications and there is never truly a perfect time. We make our time, although sometimes, sanity wins and we must do the needful first.

It is true. I love the city, but, I grew up on the ocean, so drawn to water - but those mountains and the color. They would turn any girl's head, yes? Do we grow earthier as we age, or is it inbred until we realize it?

I am glad you like the walk and see where I went with that. You can walk and tie in a #MarketFriday! Who knew?

I live in the Washington, DC area! I love urban too! :) Thank you for taking the time to read and leave your words!

You can make any day an adventure !

It's so true, every moment, even the most 'insignificant' can become one..! Although when I saw your adventure, it was one of those I was thinking about. In a few days, I'm leaving for the mountains too, I'm shaking with anticipation haha :D

You know exactly how to twist and turn the words to captivate the soul. It is a gift.

Straight to my heart ☺️ I think that when you put a lot of intensity and affection into things, you can feel it. As I feel it for you too ! I try my best, honestly and modestly.

I'm always happy to read your articles, this idea of community is amazing as WednesdayWalk is, really perfect to share and open ourselves on the world's diversity !

Looking for your further ones, I wish you a very pleasant Sunday ☀️

I like to hike regions twice or thrice with seasonal change, every bend or corner a new bird, flower, tree, or deer.

Tread lightly, nature is a perfectionist never racing, preparing thoroughly approaching season.

Self-drive gets you anywhere you wish to be, linger looking into the depths or heights in awe offering oneself to absorb each instant.

Paying it forward ensures encouragement nurturing wild places with humble humility.

I know what you mean! The changing of the season changes each path with something new or a different way of looking at it. The bushes are just beginning to get berries on them, whereas the summer brought out beauty in another way.

I like the way nature takes her time, savoring the flavor of each period of time, preparing for what is to come. I want to thank you, Joan @joanstewart for your always wisdom and kindness.

Paying it forward should be a way of life for all of us. ❤️

I hope that you are having a peaceful night as you navigate your weekend!

Nature speaks to us through her seasonal change we do so similar yet never think long about it.

Celebrate summer months with abundant food available, store for the winter knowing we will not see some for awhile, trees too store for winter removing excess during fall.

Wherever we roam, leave footprints only, one great way putting a positive mark, making small difference, collecting others trash into a bag to keep the walks clean for future visitors.

Enjoy your weekend and thanks for sharing sublime beauty of fall in your region.

Looks incredible. That definitely is a great place to sit on a rock and have a coffee and take in the scenery.
Two bears! That's exciting. You don't see them very often (at least I don't).
Most of our leaves have fallen now but it was a good year for changing colors.

Yes!!! Two bears!!! I think it is because of the change in weather, seems that it is time to be storing the last of it for the long winter nights. It doesn't get that cold here in the area, but, the mountains get a lot colder, especially at night.

It was pretty exciting to see them. Little black bears mind their own business and are likely to hide from you, but these walked across the road to get to the other side. Must have been something good over there! You are right, we don't see them very often. But two! :)

We are in peak, some places just beyond. It was a wonderfully fabulous year for the colors! After the dismal show last year, almost anything is an improvement!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your words!

Nature is a true artist, isn't she? Autumn is proof positive of it. I forget that there are so many places on this earth that do not get to see the beauty, but it is balanced with the sheer number of days you have that are true perfection.

Some breathtaking views that you have shared with us in this post. And yes, those colors definitely are something that just cannot be bought anywhere! While you capture and remember those colors during winter, we are enjoying the new, bright, and cheerful colors of Spring, being on our way to Summer...

Clearly marked escape routes for you. Thank you National Park Service. They take good care of our forests. The funnest job you could ever have. that is what they say and I actually believe them. Who wouldn't love a job like that?

Oh yes, I do agree. It must be awesome to have a job like that!!

Can you imagine a job like that? I think it would be the most perfect job in the world. Every day, you and nature.

Le sigh.

I am glad that they have signage up for the escape routes. I have never been in a forest fire, but, I have relatives that live in California and every year are evacuated because of forest fires. I cannot imagine living like that. I just cannot.

The views will only be a memory soon. Spring!!! Isn't that the best????

Thank you for dropping your link!

Ha!!! I want to hike too!!!

I do agree with you...that would absolutely be the perfect job!!

Yes, forest fires are scary! I haven't been in a proper forest fire myself yet either. But I grew up on a small farm and we had veld fires every year. So I was kind of used to those as a child.

Then, as an adult in 2003, when we moved down to the coastal area with our two daughters, we moved onto a small farm as well and for me, it was like a dream come true. But with that came the fires and my wife wasn't too keen on that. And the area that we lived in (the Valley of a Thousand Hills) was densely populated with trees, so those fires could also get ugly. One year we had a really bad fire and we almost lost one of our dogs, but fortunately, we found her in time and she was saved.

My wife enjoyed living there and being in a beautiful area (we had a spectacular view over the valley from our living room), but when we moved back to the city, she admitted to me that she is not going to miss the fires...

Spring! Oh yes, my favorite season of the year!

You're welcome!

Wow! This hike had a nice surprise involved...! Thank you, @dswigle! I do appreciate it!

We are peaking! Amazing how quickly it turns, in the blink of an eye. No matter what anyone says, I think New England has the best color in Autumn. Hands down. I have to think it has to do with all those beautiful red maples they have.

Now that November is almost here, the season of joy will be descending on us soon. :) Oh, yes. You know how I love that.

Hi, Kris! @ksteem I hope you are enjoying the clear view that the drone can get!!!!!!! I will have to run by and see if you put some more great footage up!

Beautiful natural surroundings. I've never been part of a hiking club, but I admire people who are. We cannot buy the beauty of nature, that is true. I am also delighted with the autumn leaves. A few days ago I published a post about it, I photographed the leaves in my neighborhood. 😊 Fireworks of color, beautiful... And today I had the pleasure of joining the Market Friday challenge. 😊 Here is my entry...

Hiking clubs are organized hikes for a group, and they also help keep the Appalachian Trail and others in good shape for people. It is true, it doesn't matter how much money you have, you cannot buy the beauty of nature, happiness, peace and so many other things.

I just went and looked at your other post about the trees. It truly had so me remarkable color! Thank you for sharing it with me! All of that in your neighborhood. What a lovely view you have of the trees. Yes!!! Fireworks of color, what a great way to express it!

Autumn is probably the best time for such trips: nature and views are magnificent!!! On the other hand, it could rain at any moment. you probably had somewhere to hide in that case 🙄 link to my post:

It doesn't rain that often at this time of year, at least while the colors are exploding with their beauty. If it did rain, most times I have a rain cover in my backpack. If it is no chance of rain, I might leave it behind and take my chances. LOL

Aren't the views beautiful? I admit I am still stunned at some of the colors when I look back at the pictures. Of course, in-person is so much better than what I can capture.

It is such an stunning landscape Denise the mountains, the forests all the trails. Love it. 🥰 I have lived in many different parts. But now… yes… I want to be in mountains and forests. You can always travel to the sea. Maybe it is all the, I want to get away from this world. Or maybe not. We will see 😉

Such a beautiful views 🍁🍂😊 and the colours… yes amazing. I got the start of it all and was already soooo excited hahaha 🤣

Thank you so much for sharing your hike and the things you saw along the way.
They do take care well of the trails.

I take you to the town of Great Barrington today 😉😊

I have been to Great Barrington! Ha! I am sure you knew that. New England is so small that if you have lived there for long enough, you will see most of it. I mean that in a good way. I am still very much in love with it. In time, you will see that New England has the best Autumn colors! The abundance of maple trees makes it colorful!

I am glad you enjoyed the hike and thank you for taking the time to read and comment and dropping your link!

I want to hike too!!!

That’s great you have been there, I didn’t know what towns to be honest. But you are so right… if you live long enough there you can see it all. It isn’t that large to be honest. We had our main stay in Pittsfield and could literally drive in every direction to see it all what we wanted to see. 😊🤓😎 it’s wonderful.
It was on our list to check out… but we found others that would fit better 😉
I can imagine, and seeing posts and videos about the fall colours of New England I know 🍂🍁🥰 yep I love autumn.

I truly did Denise 😊 of course I read all posts 😉 hehehe thank you so much for the tip 🤗 I like this idea to see who truly reads posts. 🤓📚
You know what. We should go on a hike together one day 😎

Enjoy your day further… 🤗

I know people don't believe it, but, New England is almost like one big town. Pittsfield is a popular getaway from NYC because of its proximity. In the summer, it is nice, but, I am not sure about living there. A lot of Massachusetts' bigger towns were former Mill Town, where the town was built around the industries. Now, most of the factories are closed, but the buildings have been repurposed for different venues that are fitting to today's world.

It takes a bit of getting used to as you live in a beautiful part of the world. I still miss Europe, but, it definitely is not the same as when I lived there.

Few people than you think actually do. Sadly.

Hiking is revitalizing, isn't it? All you can see and do!

I am truly enjoying the beauty of the day!

I think you are right. It does seem that way in many things.
We will have to find out if we ever get there, there is a big possibility, with all that is happening, we won’t go as far as thought. Waiting for new updates now. Hope next week we know more 🤞🏻🍀

Europe is lovely and so much history here… but it has changed and a lot in the last 4 years.

I know, I checked the comments on your post. And there are a few, but most haven’t… sad… but that’s how it is.

It is, my favourite thing to do is going on hikes. 😉🥰 love it.
Good to hear. Keep going and enjoy it!

I agree! I think it has changed almost too much for me. Of course, there are so many lovely things that are still intact and to be honest, the world has changed.

My own world has changed. This is not the country it was a couple of years ago. Who knew that politics could instantly change a country, almost overnight?

I was a little disappointed and it changes some things for me. :(

So, Perhaps I need another hike.

Indeed the entire world has changed so much and so fast lately. Politics that are not in line with what the people think make certain things rather hard to accept.
I can imagine Denise…

Maybe another hike would be good 😉😎 recharge in nature… enjoying the little things in live that are still “free” 🥰
Have a wonderful Saturday!

Wow what a breathtaking hiking trail and just look at the beautiful colours of fall!! What a feast to the eyes for someone who lives in a tropical country with just 2 seasons! Thank you Denise for bringing us on this hike!

Well I went to an indoor bazaar this time round.

Thank you! It is such a beautiful time of year to be hiking. Crisp and clear most of the time, the heat of the summer has passed a few weeks back, and now, it is wonderful to spend time in nature.

I enjoy visiting the tropics and yet, I cannot imagine a life without my four seasons! Truth be told, I think of the tropics most in the dead of winter!! LOL Although it doesn't get really all that cold here, it is not tropical!

Oh, the bazaar! I want to go! Thank you for being a part of the challenge!

Sometimes that we also need, spending time with the nature and enjoying the peace. I have read several blogs this past few days and saw how beautiful Autum is. Wish we had that season too in my country.

Wow - what lovely pictures, and the fall colours too. I travelled through the blue ridge mountains of Virginia 20+ years ago, and have always meant to go back - but havent managed yet. The first pic in your post really reminded me of that - the gentle rolling hills - just awesome.

I've just made my #marketfriday post for the week, after finding a lovely market this morning, while on vacation in Florence, Italy :

The Blue Ridge, the Shenandoah, Skyline Drive... any one of them is amazing in its worst moments. Not sure where you live, but if your name is representative of it, I would have to say, Indiana.

But, of course, it can mean so many other things.

I loved Florence! Florence, especially the Ponte Vecchio! The fact that it was built in the 1300s is staggering, isn't it? I still have a piece of jewelry I bought in a shop there and had it blessed by the Pope.

Oh, the memories. :)

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your link!

Wow - thats so cool to get something blessed by the Pope ! My family (Fathers side) are from Buffalo, New York, but I'm from Scotland - but used to go over to the states a lot to see family.
Florence really is awesome, so much history and art - we just love it here. We leave in the morning to head to Verona for the last 2 nights of our vacation !

The world is full of distraction and having a place like this with so much beauty would truly call me for a tour.
Often times I sleep under the trees in our farm after am exhausted from the days work but to think that here is a place I can find peace, comfort and serenity I won't hesitate to free my heart, unburden my mind and enjoy the day with a friend. I would appreciate the moments with someone by my side.

A fire in such park will get me panicking.
I have had terrible experience with fire and have never been brave enough to conquer the trauma I felt

This is such a beauty to behold and definitely this nations park is a place "I want to hike"...

For today I decided to experiment what been a trader feels like and placed myself in the position of a entrepreneur selling the products instead of buying them in this post.

The world is too full of distractions right now, there are times we can't even see what is in front of us. I used to sleep up in our apple tree, in the crux of the tree, it would cradle me so I wouldn't fall. What a wonderful way to hide away from the real world for a moment and be in my own little world.

Now, I just wander off into nature.

I absolutely know you would appreciate this time, there is no doubt in my mind. You have always been able to take advantage of the moments given to you. I hope there will be much more available to you when the time is right.

A fire in the park would make me panic too, although I have never been in a fire, my heart goes out to you with your experience with it. How does one conquer that fear?

That is awesome! I want you to hike too!!!

A new Market concept, now I will have to check it out! Thank you for dropping the link!

Oh my God, this is something we have in common, loving nature so much and wanting to enjoy our inner peace.

Maybe a physical training about how to handle fire might help.
Someone has to instill a form of bravery in us.
I have my friends dad put her through such trainings while she was cooking and the gas caught fire....
We won't be so frighten after a training.

Thank you so much for the prize.
It is duly appreciated

0

Oh, yes! How can one not love nature?

I have done some training from the hiking club. I don't feel brave, but, I don't feel helpless either. I say that because, despite the fire they had up there, I still go up, knowing there is always a possibility. Will I handle myself well if it ever happens? I pray to God that I will. I think that you should look at the possibility of training. While I don't know the exact happening, you need to be able to calm your inner self so that if it ever presents itself once again, your brain will not be overwhelmed.

You are always welcome and I hope that you are having a peaceful night!

There is something about the mountains. For me, it is a seasonal thing. I really like the ocean all year and the mountains are beautiful, but, if I had to choose... You will be living right on top of the AT so I am sure you will get to be on it.

It is good for the soul, I like to get out there and just let nature be my guide. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your words and dropping your link.

What a view-tiful places you have there ❤️. Now I am starting to travel to far away and lovely places through Hive, thank you for the tour 😍. Seeing places and nature like this helps my mind to relax for a moment.

I like mountain views more than water because I don't know how to swim and every time we go to the sea I have the fear of getting drown any time..hehe.

I'm starting to fear you're going to give up the sea for the mountains, @dswigle! Or is it something seasonal?

I admit that your mountain looks sensational, even if you only show us a few pictures.

I'm writing now from my phone and I'm not used to it. For this reason, I still don't know if I will be able to post a link to my post. I can only conclude by saying that I read your entire post, good test!

I want to hike!

Hehe! You are fast! :) I read you before you wanted to hike, so I am glad when I came back yesterday, you were willing to go! :) I can't imagine you not wanting to hike!!!!

I do only show a few pictures. I used to show so many more, but, then people didn't finish the post, or go to it if it was too long. (It must be boring as ones that keep your attention are never too long)

Oh! Your computer finally broke? :( I am sad to hear this! I know that you like posting on your phone as much as I do. (NOT AT ALL!) I also know that you always read my entire post. There was never a doubt about that. But, very few read any of it.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time and patience to do it, Dan! @bluemoon I went to the mountains again and you are right. It is seasonal as it only lasts for a couple of weeks. Now, I need to go to the Shorehouse for a few days and get reacquainted. :)

I hope you and Magda and the rest of the family are well!

Yes, I want to hike all the time. Unfortunately, desire doesn't match possibility...

No, the computer didn't crash but I was mostly away from home, so I tried typing on my phone. As you rightly said, I don't like it at all but when needed, it can be used.

Yes, the Shorehouse, I think it's very good what you're doing!

Thank you for your good wishes. So glad we could communicate again!

The storehouse and a nice hike out there. Different than the mountains, but a great time anyway. I love the beach in the winter too. Stark and windy. Just different. Of course, the best is the beginning of summer, when there are no big crowds and not so hot the sand burns.

I would be the last one to complain about tourists. In most places I go, that is exactly what I am. :)

0

Haha..., I didn't think of it that way, as I (or you) are tourists and contribute to the summer crowds in the resorts!

The sea in winter, with the deserted beach and strong wind, I've seen it a few times too and it is extremely beautiful.

Wow, so many gorgeous shots. This really is an incredible time of year, especially in the woods and the mountains. I love this post. The parks and the Appalachian trail in that area are so gorgeous. I once spent some time there with some Hive friends, including @enginewitty! And we saw bears too. They are really gorgeous (and frightening) creatures. A friend of mine is just about to head out that way on a long road trip. I've told her to bring bear spray!

They are called scenic overlooks, but, you would never be able to overlook this one.
