Soft Serving Market Friday

avatar
(Edited)

I come over to this part of Virginia for two things. A great butcher, which, once discovered, you can not do without, and a place called Swirlies. I can do without meat most days, but, I had a carload today that swore they would die on the spot without a few swirlies. Pictured is Swirlies before we lost our privileges.

Soft serve has made it around the world, faster than a #MarketFriday post! Mister Softee, our most famous ice cream truck, made its way to China where it serves up the regular flavors, plus a few of its local flavors: Green Tea and Red Bean flavored soft serve.

Day or night, people come from near and far to stand in line. And meet up with a friend or three. Not now, but, you know, the old normal.

water fountan.jpg

Off subject, but, did you notice the water fountain has a booster seat on it? How cool is that?

Oh, for the love of soft-serve ice cream! Over the years, it has found its niche, its place in our food pyramid, of sorts, if you will. I'll bet you didn't see that coming, did you? It was created with a combined effort of Dairy Queen (DQ for short) and Carvel, the experts in all things ice cream. They hit a home run with it. The rest is just history.

Did I mention that they come in a sugar, pictured to the left, or a waffle cone, my personal favorite. If you are really being watchful of your waistline, you may just want a dish. Your call!

Market Friday 3.jpg

Most of the soft serve shops have only chocolate and vanilla or a combination of both flavors called a swirl, this place called it a twist. You can roll it in sprinkles, jazz it up with nuts, or you can cover it with a magic shell, which is a cone dipped in pure chocolate and it hardens, making a hard covering over your soft serve. Oh, for the love of God and all things chocolate. It is pure and delicious. Nowadays, you can get cherry also. Praise God, did I say it was a near miracle of experience?

Why, yes it is.

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) Join me as we share our markets across the globe. I always look forward to seeing what you send me! It is amazing to see different markets and cultures of our friends here on Hive..

Rules of the Road

Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.
Take pictures! Be creative (or not, we don't judge!)
Tell us a little bit about the market, what brought you here?
Post the picture(s)
Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post
Or drop the link into the MarketFriday post so I can find it
Have fun!

Please leave the link to your post on here so it can easily be found by others. It helps you and me to have them in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you so much for joining us!! ❤

If you are watching your calorie intake, soft serve is a better deal for you than regular ice cream. It has a light, fluffy texture which accounts for it's lower fat content. Win-win!

Market Frieday 4.jpg

STOP!! BRAIN TEASER AHEAD!!

source55
Question: Two men find an old gold coin and want to have a coin toss with it to decide who gets to keep it. The only problem is the coin is heavier on one side so it comes up heads more than tails. What is a fair way for the men to toss the coin and decide who gets to keep it?

source

Answer: They toss the coin twice. Each man picks heads or tails on the first coin toss and on the second coin toss they switch. So if you picked heads on the first coin toss you would have tails for the second coin toss. In this way, no one has an advantage over the other.

I went out that way today and Gasp! My Swirlies is socially distancing from me. Plus, tape on the sidewalks and everything. Chained offf the area, lest you try to sit with it.

I have to ask...Do you think this will be the new normal?

A flower. There must always be a flower or three, to color my world. Hail the beauty!

And just like that, this show is over. Come back tomorrow and we will do it again. The market? Oh, yes! Wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Be different if you wish! It does not have to be a traditional market! Just remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Thank you for visiting my post 💖 Because of you, I come back to post again and again. Always. Kindness counts. Wherever you go, whatever you do.

they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?

i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.

later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,

"everywhere"
"everywhere"
"everywhere"

It's great to have an ice cream sometimes. I have some stashed in the fridge. Love the mint chocolate flavor I had yesterday. Too bad people can be enjoying much ice cream outside when the days are warmer.

Hi, Ace! @ace108 It is too bad that people cannot be enjoying the ice cream outside once summer comes. It is starting to get warm here, but, too bad all the tables are sectioned off so nobody can sit.

Well, I hope this isn't the new normal. That would be sad!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your link!

You're welcome.
Thanks for the tip.
People are saying that this is the new norm. I think it will still be like that for a while.
I read that Google is ready for their people ri with from home till December.
The furniture manufacturer surely won't be selling much to restaurants for a while.

I can tell you that in the Washington DC area most of our people including the Pentagon state department and other places are working from home unless you are key and essential. So many companies here are not opening. There's no point in opening and shutting in the same week pink. I think some of them will wait and see how the soft opening is working in other parts of the state. Time will tell.

We have close non-essential workplace too till 1st June and likely there will be still having to split 2 teams and likely one to be offsite like home. Scary thing if I look at Wuhan, they reopened and soon the infection continue again but everywhere it pushing to open with acceptable risks but what is acceptable risks? I think different part of the world is trying the luck to different extend.

I agree with you and am in no rush to make it normal again. Until it is. We have done it this long, and I am not excited to put my family at risk.

I couldn't believe when Wuhan opened up. I think it was to show the world they fixed their problem. Why must pride always get in the way?

It does look rather yummy, doesn't it? I can only hope that social distancing is a transitionary method to getting back to normal. It would be devastating to think that this is our new normal.

Sorry about that I posted too early! LOL

I wish for the best and I want to just say that I appreciate you supporting the challenge.

I thank you for by and saying hello, leaving your words behind.

Oh, yes, there is something special about soft serve! 😋

I remember when I was a child, I often made my own "soft serve" by vigorously stirring my bowl of regular ice cream (from a carton) until it took on a soft, mushy consistency. 😁

avatar

Oh my gosh!! We did that too! There were nine kids in my family and not always the funds to take everybody out for ice cream although my father made a pretty mean Cherry ice cream! I thought that was so cool to get back hard rock from freezer and keep on stirring until it is soft and creamy. Oh yes! Sweet dreams are made of this! Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your words. It's always such an honor when you visit Market Friday. And thank you so much for your support.

Banana split! When I was a kid those seemed to be a really big deal. I still remember the first time me and two other friends had them. It was so big I thought I was never going to be able to finish it. We were just little kids. I still remember the waitress who served us. She asked if we were surfers. I thought she was the most beautiful girl on the planet. She was probably only 16 or 17 years old and twice as tall as any of us. :)

I honestly can say I think I only got banana splits a few times when I was growing up because well frankly oh, there were nine of us kids and Banana Splits were a big treat. I am sure your waitress was 15 or 16 because back then you could work at a restaurant when you were 15 but any girl that paid attention to younger guys was sure to be the apple of his eye. You old flirt! LOL some things never change. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and say hello! Your support is awesome!

That style and look is my ... hmmm I can't remember what it's called. From the mid 60's into the 70's, hip huggers, halter tops, long straight hair. The big change from the late fifties. I lived next to 4 girls - all older than me and I got to see the fashion trends close up. I had a crush on the youngest one who was two years older than me and a foot taller! I'll never forget the first time a hippie van painted psychedelic colors pulled up out front. Made quite the impression in the neighbourhood. The oldest daughter went to Berkeley for college and was there for all the student protests. She's been a political activist for human rights and women's rights ever since. She has been to most every hot spot in the world and I would love to know her story better. I haven't seen her since the late sixties. Heck I grew up with the Beatles on every radio station all day lol

Lol, it is indeed, cool and your brain teaser did get me thinking though, i almost said, "well let's just get them another coin to toss" and then i scrolled to see you answer, i guess if there was a gift to it i might have lost it then.

Thanks for Market Friday Always, Your writeups are indeed beautiful and captivating.

I'm pretty sure I don't understand some of the restrictions. So long as you stay an alligator apart why not sit outside? Wouldn't it be more productive to have an employee wiping the tables with 1% bleach solution after people leave?

I've dislocated a finger, Besides a bit of pain, I have a problem typing in any normal sense. I've made this to copy/paste so I can at least let my peeps know that I'm reading. Sorry about this whole mess.

Aren't you sweet! Thank you and you really do get around. You are like a runaround sue! I swear!

I don't understand a lot, but, I can say that in the bigger cities, I agree with the social distancing as there are just too many. Smaller places where you can keep tabs on things, not so much.

Use the talking mode on your phone to answer. It will save your finger. You are the best, Tom. Truly.

Admittedly, I will say that I am usually creeped out by those people that drive around the neighborhoods tootling their little song. I prefer vanilla soft ice cream dipped in chocolate. Heavenly! On the brain teaser, if the gold coin is heavy on one side, I was thinking maybe they'd have to toss it more than twice because chances are heads will come out on both tosses so they'd be back to square one.

It's Friday and my contribution to Market Friday is here. Hope you enjoy it.

Really hope you stood 8 ft apart to go get one! Looks simply divine, have not had one of these in years.

Growing up you would hear the chime of the ice-cream truck from blocks away, grab your money and patiently wait, always a hit, that hit the right spot!

Later year used to frequent a place called Milky Lane they made a marvelous cone with flakie chocolate inside, sadly have still not had one in many a year.

Looks festive and fun place to chill out in the sun, have a great day and hopefully soon we return to a more normal way of living.

Oh, you bet we stood 9 feet apart! They used 3 meters as their spacing. Fine by me! I went to keep company to another in the house and well, this weak soul had one. :)

Milky Lane sounds delicious and the flakie chocolate inside would tempt me!!!

Hopefully, we can find normal again... Thank you for stopping by!!!!!!!

Buy a big bubble and walk in that, now that would be fun and easier than masks, just a slot for food.

I’m busy;
but not in the way
most people accept.
I’m busy calming my fear
and finding my courage.
I’m busy listening to my kids.
I’m busy getting in touch

I’m busy questioning my answers.
I’m busy being present in my life.
