Market Friday — Exploring Simpang Lima Grocery: A Modern Food Haven

Today I didn't go to the traditional market as usual for my weekly shopping because I still had quite a lot of stock left from the previous week. Instead, today I went to a modern grocery store that stocks a variety of food-related items. It's called Simpang Lima Grocery and is located right in the city center. It's not too far from where I live, but due to the heavy traffic, it took me 15 minutes to get there.

There were 2 ingredients that I wanted to buy at this place, the first was Dori fish which is actually freshwater catfish. Since this was not my first time visiting this wholesaler, I immediately turned right after the entrance and headed for the frozen food section. There are 2 types of Dori fish packaging that I found, the first is a package containing 1 kg pieces of whole Dori fish, and the other is a package containing cubes of Dori fish which weigh a total of 1/2 kg. Since this was my first time buying and processing this type of fish, I decided to take the 1/2 kg package as an attempt.

The second ingredient I wanted to buy was enoki mushrooms, which were located right across from the frozen food section. But unfortunately, they were out of stock. Not only was the type of mushroom I was looking for, but other mushrooms were also out of stock.

The layout and interior of this grocery store are quite interesting, so I decided to wander around the other sections. There were several products that caught my eye, one of which was the oil section. There are so many types of oil sold here, such as olive oil, coconut oil, virgin coconut oil, corn oil, and other oils from a variety of different brands.

There was also a section that contained a variety of food coloring. In addition to food ingredients, this grocery also provides various types of food containers that are commonly used for microwaving or food containers for processed foods that will be resold.

After wandering around in this place for about 20 minutes, I decided to go to the cashier and end this shopping session. In the end, there were 7 items that I bought, namely: Dori fish, macaroni, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, macaroni, mayonnaise, tomato sauce, and pudding.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and read this post. I hope you liked it and feel free to leave your comments about my post. See you next week in the next story everyone!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
