Market Friday: Getting a New Laptop

Much appreciation to @dswigle for organizing Market Friday, where we get to share our market experiences and the goods purchased. Lately, life has been from one challenge to another for me. I hated blogging with my laptop until my phone got bad, and I had to depend completely on my laptop to stay active on Hive.

I got used to using the laptop, but I was having a challenge with the keyboards. Some of the keys are hard, and one has to apply so much pressure on them before they respond. This slows down the process and adds to the amount of stress I undergo to make a single post. If the estimated time for a post is 3 hours, then I spend an extra 1 or 2 hours trying to make the keyboard work.

Each time I want to write and I remember the difficulties I face using this laptop to write, I often get discouraged, but I am left with no choice but to keep using the laptop while I make plans for a new one or a better laptop. Last month I decided to open up to my dad, and I told him my plans and that I needed any little support I could get.

He agreed, and I was quite happy. Even though the money I have is little and adding his support still won't be enough to get the laptop I want, I made the choice to remove some of my stake from the hive (power down). I initiated power down and placed an order for the laptop I wanted to buy.

My dad supported me with $303 (140,000 naira), but the laptop I had in mind cost $466.63 (215,000 naira). I sold some hives yesterday because I was told that the delivery was nearby, and I have already made part payment to complete the payment once I receive my package. I picked it up this morning and made the payment.

Thanks to Hive, my dreams of owning a new laptop are now a reality. I still have dreams of replacing my bad phone, and hopefully we can achieve that.

Congratulations on your new laptop! Actually, it is thanks to your Dad mostly as he put up the bulk amount of money! Of course, Hive helped, but the shoutout belongs to your dad. :)

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
