Dogs and sticks!

For some reason dogs are addicted to sticks and the game of "Fetch"

My friend @johannpiber has two little cats that give them much laughter while watching animals on TV and we have a cheeky little Chihuahua that also has some weird habits.
Pets can really provide relief from the stresses of life.
Let's have a look at dogs playing the fetch game.

Anxiously the dog watches his owner collecting a stick and he knows what's coming.
231.JPG

Bang! Here he took a dive to fetch the stick.
224.JPG

The stick landed at the other side of the river.
225.JPG

Oh yes, he got the stick and turned to swim back.
227.JPG

We were told that he is a breed between a pitbull and a sheepdog.
228.JPG

Now here we have a real sheepdog and as he got to the stick, he laid down, as if to say "gotcha".
202.JPG

Then it was time for him to run back to his owner.
201.JPG

Boundless energy this fella had and he was delighted with the simple stick.
203.JPG

So what is the lesson here for us as as the enlightened species on earth?
Simple things can create much joy.
When I was a kid we created our own toys, wire cars, paper kites, sling shots, go-karts and many other toys. Money for toys was never available and yet we had a very rich childhood resulting from our creative abilities.
Those very creative experiences led to many successes in our future lives.
Just saying!

And that's All Friends!

Dogs know better how to express their joy.
My dog was never interested in fetch game. I kinda miss thst.

Thinking about my childhood, we used our imagination alk the time when we were playing and I remember how we made cars of crates, big enough to fit in and to imagine we are racing. Oh and sticks we ride as horses. 😀

Yes indeed and all that they want is love my friend.
Our little guy is slowly losing his sight and I talk to him at night about it during our goodnight singing ritual. He comes into the room every night and then I have to stroke and sing for him before he goes to bed.

So, you are also old school as they say, but we have had many good times during those years.
Building own toys, having accidents and getting hidings in my case hahaha.

Oh, poor little thing.
And they give their love without asking.

I am indeed old school ☺ and I had fantastic childhood.

Yeah our little Troy laying here at my feet now is 15 years old.
How well do I remember that when he was a tiny pup, he used to sleep in my shoe every night.

I also long back to those days at times my friend wondering at what stage we have lost the innocence and the spurious fun. The times before we started clouding our sub-conciences with guilt and fear.
Such is life.

Cats and dogs - they can give you much joy and entertain you for hours 😀

You search and throw sticks and the dog run and bring the sticks back to you. Have I told you, that our cats do the same? Well not exactly the same, because they do it only if they want to play the "fetch game" and they bring one of their toys and wouldn't run for sticks 😁

Simple things ... we didn't have many toys neither, but first I want to tell one more thing about the kittens: we have bought toys dedicated for cats, but what do you think they like most? Crumpled paper or candy paper - they love to run for it 🤣

As said, as kids we didn't have many toys neither. I can only remember a few things we have made ourselves, like bows and arrows to play Cowboys and Indians in the woods :)

You are so right about cats a dogs Hannes.
In all truth I am not a cat man (they catch birds), but I think that I told you that a strange cat gave birth on my lap.

No, you haven't told me and maybe you should do a post about the cats playing the game of fetch here.
Maybe the cats like the sound and the looks of the paper and the candy wrappers?
Or they could think that it could be something nice to eat.
Troy is right here at my feet and he can be fast asleep, but when I touch a wrapper he is up in a flash 🤣

Strange how that game "cowboys and indians" have died out, as most kids now play games on their phones. Very unhealthy as no activities are required.
My grandkids can sit for hours on their phones and it's never a good thing.
The human body was not designed to sit around.

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, it must be the sound of the paper - you only need to crumple a sheet of paper and they come running from another room to play. And you are also right that they think they might get something nice to eat, because they run even faster when they hear someone opening their treats bag 😁

Right, you don't see any kids nowadays play the games outside we have played, but I believe if I had a smartphone or a computer I wouldn't even know how fresh water in a stream feels or tastes 🤣

Troy is 15 years old and his sight is starting to wane. When I call him he doesn't respond anymore and even now he lays fast asleep here at my feet.
But let me touch a piece of noisy paper and he is up like a flash 🤣

Even though he can't see so well anymore in the dark, he can still see when Marian gets his buckets for a bath and then he scampers to his hiding place.
But it is easy to get him out, as I crumple the sound with a packet around the corner and Marian catches him when he comes to investigate😁

So sad that kids have to learn about nature in classrooms, as it must seem like a different land far away from the comforts of home and it's machines.
Until calamity like a cyclone strikes and then they are useless.

Cheers and thanks!

Yep, same with our cats - when they hide you just need to crumple paper or shake their treats bag 😀

The pandemic has lead many young people back into nature. That's good for them but bad for me, because they are everywhere 😂

Hahaha, I feel for you having to dodge the youngsters, but their health comes first.
I still cannot understand why they closed the nature reserves and the beaches here during the lockdowns. It forced more people into the shopping malls where one has a 100% more chance to get the virus.
But you know what I will say here.

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, I know what you will say 😉 ... and I also have no idea why they closed the beaches and other outdoor activities here too.

Just doesn't make sense Hannes,
They could have a point about people not wearing masks outside and crowding might transer the virus more easily, but why arrest a single surfer out far for not obeying the rules?
Especially when the stats revealed that shopping centers are fertile areas for the spread of the virus.

They should rather ban crowding in the open areas and close the big shopping shopping centers.

Cheers and thanks.

I completely agree with you, but I also remember the days after our first lockdown has ended - there were crowds of people at the lake and it was just like in every other summer. These situations have caused more infections and our second lockdown.

One single surfer wouldn't matter, but if the people see that the police lets him surf they would think they can do it too and the beach would be full soon.

Yes you are correct and now that they have unbanned alcohol, the hospitals are filling up with violent and trauma cases again. The hospitals need the space for the Covid cases.

Thankfully now the beaches an nature parks are open again, but crowing is forbidden. Some of us listen, but the general populace don't give a damn.
We heard that there is a new third wave of Covid on its way.
Such is life my friend!

Cheers and thanks.

Lockdown lets people lose their jobs and no lockdown makes them ill because they forget to keep distancing... the next wave and lockdown will come for sure.

I want to wait for a few weeks and think then I might get the vaccine - at the moment I would do almost anything to be able to travel without borders again, but I am not sure yet if having the vaccine will allow that.

Yes, you are right Hannes, lockdown also irritates people and the mountain pass is closed here this morning as the locals are rioting and they have blocked the pass.
No distancing between that lot guaranteed. So many problems in this country.

Yes, they say that over here you cannot cross a border unless you have a vaccination certificate.
But here the people in the neighboring countries slip in by simple crawling through the wire fences.
We have millions of residents here that come in from the African continent.

Cheers and thanks.

Crossing borders is not that easy here because of our mountains, but migrants might find other ways.
This pandemic will keep us in its claws for quite some more time.

Oh yeah, there will always be a way in for desperate people my friend.
This new school year we have thousands of children, especially in Grade 8 that cannot find a place in the schools, as there is no space for them. So many families are streaming in from the other provinces.

Well, let's pray that the vaccines will help Hannes.

Cheers and thanks.

I am glad that it's different here - every kid has to go to school and will get a place.

My parents will get the vaccine in a few days. I hope there are no side effects. Then I will make my decision whether I want to get it too or not.

Oh yeah and in the early years we also had the same.
But since the borders have been opened it should have been expected that people would stream in searching for a better life due to our strong economy.
Of course the underworld people would also arrive in droves.

Now our economy has tanked, the polution figure has grown and many opportunities have dissappeared. The old adage of you cannot spend more than you earn is at play and the country is facing huge problems. Our debts have spiralled, we have been downgraded to junk status and the Covis epidemic makes matters even worse.

The one good thing here is that we are a very resilent nation and if the races could only unite as one, we can sure beat anything.
If only my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

We moan about the thousands of migrants who want to come here, but you have got so many more and still they get more and more.

There should not be such a word as race. We are all the same - there are only different skin colours and languages...

Believe me that it is a huge headache Hannes,

Our infrastructure is wonky due to a lack of maintenance and replacement and it simply was not designed to handle millions of more people.
New shanty towns jump up next to the rivers and you can imagine the filth and extrement landing up in the rivers. Marian and I actually saw dark clouds of extrement being pumped into the ocean and as we approached a guy standing there, he took out his phone, made a call and suddenly the dark water flowing in was stopped before I could get it on my camera.

Yes over here we have a thing that is called race baiting. People use it in order to insult other races by calling them by deregotary names, forgetting that we all breathe the same air and that the sun shines the same on each of us with total disregard of our colors. Our hearts pump the same blood and I can go on and on.
Race sucks my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

We here would have the infrastructure, but we don't want them. I know I said "we", but actually, I don't mind any migrant who really has to leave his country and who wants to respect our laws and our way of living...

A sad state of affairs all over the world my friend. Political and greedy wars all over the place and the innocent suffer.
I read an article a long time ago about the mounds of arm stocks that some manufacturing countries were sitting on and they had to sell it in order to keep their people employed.
So, nothing is better than to start a war in a country and to supply them with arms.
Rebels also need arms and so do the underworld.
No need to guess who suffers and are forced into migration.

The answer would be to restore the warring countries to become productive and I bet that many of the migrants will return. But then there would be no mass arm sales.

Cheers and thanks.

I wouldn't know a solution for that. People will always have arguments and fight. And if you forbid weapons you might even have to forbid a butter knife 🤔

A terrible situation my friend and even worse when you add the effect of too much alcohol to that butter knife. If you have a look at our murder stats released yesterday, you would also cry.

Yeah, I forgot the alcohol - it makes everything bad even worse.

In 2019 we have had a few less murders than you - we have had 65 if I remember right.

The sad thing about alcohol over indulgement is that the trauma cases are filling up the hospital spaces again. We need the spaces for the Covid cases which are thankfully now in a downward spiral.

Only 65 murders sounds like a place in paradise 😎

Cheers and thanks!

You used the word "spiral" - now, after a year of pandemic ups and downs I would use the word "circle".

... and every single murder gets its headline in the newspapers.

Yes, "circle" is certainly a better explanation.
What they do is that they collect all of the murder case numbers from the police stations countrywide and then they publish the total number in their annual report.
Not every murder case reaches the newspapers, only the ones of celebs and popular people.

If they had to headline every murder there would be no space left for the news.

Cheers and thanks!

I think that we have a lot to learn from kids because they know how to enjoy the little things. This is a trait that adults often lose because they confuse growing up with losing playfulness

So true and as we grow, we start to face the teachings of life and the setbacks, which all gather to remove the joy and the innocence.
Our sub-conscience becomes clouded with guilt and regrets and it creates a big longing in us for all the good things that we have lost.
Such is life!

The past we can't change. But it is very useful for learning. Mistakes repeat only with different people when we have not learned the lesson

Exactly correct. Our motto at Papillon is; "Creating better tomorrows...from the tears of today"
Not learning from the "mistakes" (lessons) of today will continue to destroy our tomorrows if we do not stop to repeat our mistakes.
