A few curation notes for new writers

avatar

I am a curator for Neoxian city paper and India United.
So, what? You may ask.
As a curator, I have a few tips to share regarding writing on Hive and earning upvotes.

A few days back, I had written down points for the members of India United. I wish to share those with all on Hive as well. Another person did ask me whether he could share it as well and I agreed but I too would like to write all this down myself as well and it pertains to everyone who is starting to blog on Hive.

When a new person joins Hive to blog and earn money, he/she does actually look at the trending page and sees the payout of the posts that got the most votes. Obviously, it will be high. Expecting such a high payout, A, for example, starts writing a blog. Ten minutes pass but there is no upvote. So, A starts to fidget. Soo, the fidgeting transforms into despair and sometimes self-pity. After a few more blogs and the resulting 0.02 upvote or even less, A leaves Hive and searches online for paid-to-write blogs, and online earning sites and is led to blogs written by people who get money from Google AdSense. They advise A to write on word press or hub pages and slave for peanuts.

Then one day, A meets a fellow countryman and gets to know that there are groups on Discord that support hive bloggers. A jumps into one such group and asks - where should I dump my link? I cannot access Post promotion. Soon, he learns that post-promotion is not the only feature of that group. A has to be active on that discord, interact and also participate in the activities in order to earn that post-promotion feature.

Slowly, A learns how to do that and after interacting with other bloggers on Hive, gets small upvotes on his blog which further encourages him to write more.

Then one day, he notices people who write certain niche blogs get more upvotes and he wants that for himself too. Well, one thing that A does not realize is that success is not earned in a day. Patience, consistency, and hard work have to walk along A in order to reach that point where he can boast of earning all those Hive and HBD's and even help others along the way.

Given below are the tips that I wrote on India United

  • Never give them any reason to downvote you
Always check your blog in plagiarism checker before you post especially if it contains facts and figures

  • Use images of your own whenever possible
    Otherwise use pixabay and such
and source it even if they say it is free to download

  • Please do not tag any person unnecessarily
This will invite unwanted attention and downvotes probably.

  • Please make sure to write a minimum of a 500-word post
You can always write about things that you know
Then it will be easier like local stuff
or about what you are studying or working with

  • Make sure you write about what you know well.
Otherwise, it will not get a vote and also could get downvotes
    Use proper tags only

  • Please do not refer friends who are not familiar with internet rules in
general and who think that it is only fair to copy or rewrite and create
    duplicate content

I want to stress some points that we cannot get hive rich in a day. So, just be patient, calm and write and interact. That is the only way out. we have to reach out and be polite and try to engage with what the post is all about. Just leaving a comment like - NICE POST' will get an instant downvote and be flagged. Also, never think some are doing well, so why not me? It is all about spending years here and then gaining the trust and respect of others which you won't get if you do not spend it here. Either you spend all your time here on hive and discord or else nothing at all.

The above was written by me on India United discord. I granted permission to Sayu to write about it. I also requested @bhattg to write a version in Hindi so that those who do not understand English very well can read it. I am not sure there are many from other states in the south who do not understand English or Hindi. So, other language translation is not necessary.

Please feel free to add points that I may have missed. You are also free to use the comment section to interact regarding these.

Disclaimer - I am still not an expert on hive. This was written for the sake of new users.

Wowwww
This is so deep Sayee. I keep telling people that hive is like a farmer who planted a seed, he should be watering the plants always and remove weeds when needed so he can have a good harvest in the future.

Success is not by magic in hive. I have tasted and see. One gat to be consistent, and build a healthy relationship here. Engagement is a vital aspect of succeeding here and comparing ones growth with another can never help.

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts ✅

I have been told of the importance of engagement to one's growth on hive severally. Reading your comment on this same line of thoughts is telling me to brace up and interact more with people. I have been on hive for about a year but my participation haven't been at the maximum. Thank you for the tips.

Thank you very much for these random advices on behalf of all the newbies here and those who have yet to see this. As a popular quote goes "The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on." It is never of any use to oneself." I wish that anyone who is trying to succeed on the platform could see this.

Good summerizatuion.
People do need to understand that it does take effort to earn on hive or anywhere for that matter. They shouldn't expect quick payout.
Instead on focusing on earnings money they should focus on earnings network and followers. Learn before you earn...

A very nice and timely content, to be honest at the beginning I also felt the same, why no votes and no comments. It is true that nothing good can be achieved without perseverance and hard work. I think the tips for newbies will play a very useful role.

Patience, consistency, and hard work have to walk along

Indeed these are great steps that generate huge support and upvote. Been on hive for a while and still find it hard to earn looks embarrassing to me but am glad i understand clearly now.

That for the story it was a nice one, if i may ask can you share Nexioan discord link with me I hardly join in. Or should I give you my discord name

Happy new month

Nice post! 😂😂

Jokes aside, one thing I found to be extremely helpful is to understand and truly accept that we have to let go of the sense of entitlement. Nothing here is granted and there will always, always be posts where we won't get much votes and we have to accept that it's okay. We shouldn’t get disheartened and keep at it.

Helpful for newcomers so thanks for taking the time to write this.

I also think it's a lot about community? About actively reading and engaging with other people's content.

The biggest mistake I've seen here is people coming in with an attitude based on mainstream social media models - like thinking they need to be rock stars. That it's all about them getting followers. That it's about "looking" good.

I've personally found that people who are naturally interested in other people, sharing, connecting and uplifting others (and chatting because they like engagement) do pretty well off the bat! And people who are here just to earn generally don't do this enough naturally and so they bomb out.

Hive doesn't work like mainstream social media AT ALL. (It's why I adore it!)

But people who may be really good at mainstream social media (based mostly on self promotion...ugh), seem to struggle to "get it" when they first join this community :D

It's quite funny... but also sad that they may leave because they don't get the likes they're used to for being more superficial. I think if they stick around, they will find happier, healthier versions of themselves with the more authentic connection here.

But that takes time when a person has been programmed to be more narcissistic by mainstream algorithms - which (let's face it) the Fakebook and Instaham algorithms most certainly do :/

Wow 🤩

This is what I wanted. I have the ideas and I can write many articles a day. I wish to share and when I write without upvotes it decoupages me. Your post just showed me the way out.🥳

I’m glad you shared this with us.

Greetings from Ghana 🇬🇭

As a newcomer on this blockchain, I have to say joining hive is one of the best decisions I’ve made recently.

I was writing on a different platform previously. The upvotes on my posts were cool and was I was earning fairly. What made me leave there was lack of networking. Even though I was getting some cool upvotes, I still felt the absence of people’s eyes and attention on my blogs. The networking was not giving.

As an amateur writer, I value people’s attention on my post. A lot. In as much as I love upvotes, reading beautiful comments from other people gives me some kind of satisfaction and joy. It makes me feel progressive. And also because of this, I love pouring out my heart on other people’s blogs whenever I can relate.

My few days on hive have given me nothing but joy and great networks. It’s been less than a week and I can already name amazing people who genuinely engage my work. I’m very grateful to these people.

I want to say a big thank you for this important post. Post like this inspires new customers like myself to do more, and most importantly how to do more.

Thank you for this post it's really helpful an educating. Seriously at a pint navigating here in hive and seeing some posts with much upvotes while I get just little nearly made me want to quit. But rime wasn't built in a day, so I decided to try a few more times. Hopefully as time goes on there going to be some improvement.
