Saturday Is For Arts

We dedicate most of our Saturdays to arts. Actually, most of the days, we are doing arts. This is Little Miss' interest, and so we more often than not put a touch of arts in any lesson.

For example, what Little Miss last shared through their @divinekids account, was her output for Science, Language Arts, Computer, and of course, Arts. If you have not seen that yet, it's where she made a short story about animals and made her own illustrations for it.

I normally take cues from her - she is the one who dictates what kind of art we will do for the day. Sometimes it's random sketching (she challenges me, who would make a better drawing), watercolor painting, or like yesterday, it was more on crafting.

The Prince, The Princess, and The Crown

"Daddy is the king, Mommy is the queen, I am the princess, and Kuya and Janjan are the prince(s)," Little Miss would always say.

So to make this more realistic, she decided to make crowns for herself and her little brother.

Apart from honing creativity, this activity also let us review measurements.

To make the crowns here's what we need:

  • 1 piece A4 white paper (or any paper you prefer)
  • coloring pens
  • tape measure
  • glue
  • scissors
  • scrap colored papers for decorating the crown

Making the crown:

Steps

Illustration

Step 1 - Measure the head of the prince and princess to make sure the crowns will fit!IMG_20210321_115243.jpg
Step 2 - Fold the A4 paper lengthwise in the middle and cut it into two. Further fold each piece into half lengthwise and glue the edges to close.IMG_20210321_115357.jpg
Step 3 - Glue the two strips together to make a long strip.IMG_20210321_120449.jpg
Step 4 - Do you remember the measurement of the Prince/Princess' head? Find that on the tape measure and mark it on the strip of paper. Glue the ends together up to this mark.IMG_20210321_121028.jpg
Step 3 - Okay! Our crown is done. It is time to decorate them with jewels fit for royalty!IMG_20210321_121607.jpg
Use your creativity. You can draw hearts and precious jewels on the crown.IMG_20210321_122155.jpg
And here you go, the Prince and the Princess, with their beautiful crowns. 💞

Happy Saturn. Literally Happy, Saturn.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the table, Little Man is also busy with his own project. This is inspired by a ring of paper that Little Miss had cut for one of her random "crafts".

Screenshot from SkyView App.

He thought that the ring could be compared to the rings of the planet Saturn. At first, he had a green plastic ball, but he soon realized that Saturn is not green. It is nearer to yellow in color.

Several times, he wanted to open the Star View App on our phone to see how Saturn looks like. Remember the star gazing app we used to view the "Great Conjunction" last December? That's the one.

Saturn's Ring.

Thanks to writing this post, I have to remember to re-collect all the yellow stickers that Little Man had put around his ring. While he he was supposed to color the paper, he decided putting the stickers around was easier. 🤦‍♀

"Coloring" the Ring of Saturn.

Time to check how the rings fit around Saturn...

Hold on!

Something is missing! [Little Man checks the Skyview App again.]

Did you know that Saturn's rings are made of dust and ice and a lot of other things?

The rings just got to have dots!

Saturn's rings with all the particles.

Finally, Saturn is happy. "Literally" happy. They used a yellow ball with a smiley drawn on it, so yeah, literally!

I don't know about your kids, but mine tend to use the word "literally" so much. Talking to one of their friends, a 6-year old boy, he uses "literally" quite often too during our 5 minutes conversation. LOL.

Literally Happy Saturn. 😁

Hope you all are having a great weekend so far! Be Happy. Literally happy!

❤️ Arlyn

It's also a good idea for little princes and princesses to write down their crown measurements in case they forget ;D Those are some lovely crowns though :)
