I'm bored, the two words uttered by most lids over the past 1.5 years with COVID. although we've been quite lucky here in Australia escaping much of its hits. Although Delta strain has entered our community so it's a frightening time.

The first year of lockdown lil miss was only 3, she was excited that dad was home more often and we've grown even more attached over that time. But her fourth year has been challenging. She's now aware of the world around her, she wants to go out exploring. She's made friends, she wants to see them and she wants to experience life.

Who can blame her? Don't we all. Prior to lock down we had a really eventful life, each weekend we were out exploring and finding new rainforests. New to her old to me, but beautiful nonetheless. Mother nature only grows more beautiful in age then us humans. A firm reminder she was here first and will be once we are gone.

This weekend just passed we went to the super market and opposite was a big tent which caught the eye and curiosity of lil miss 4 who asked why or who would put a giant tent up there next to the shops to go camping. I chuckled and said it was a circus. She immediately got overwhelmed with excitement You mean a real circus? Take me there daddy please!

I hadn't been to the circus since I was young, back then they had tigers, bears and various other forms of animals. I think an elephant too. Even horses, I remember the show horses well they were great. I didn't know but all of the animals are gone from circuses even the doggies which once performed tricks. Death defying jumps and all forms of really cool things.

We spoke about all the awesome entertainment provided and she asked me what entertainment was. It's actually quite a challenging concept to explain to a four year old. We settled on the fact how she always tells me she's bored and that entertainment was a way to not be bored. I think I might have set myself up to fail there as I can see it coming back to haunt me 🤣

The excitement on her face as we lined up, got a hot dog in batter a.k.a corn dog, pop corn, fairy floss and all the awesome circus treats as we sat to watch the circus.

I wasn't allowed to take pictures of the acts as the performers are some internationally recognised and known acts. So I shyd away from filming the insane tricks of the lion brothers. We were both kept on the edge of our seats as the aerial acrobatics soared high above. Lil Miss often asking Isn't he scared daddy? or you can do that daddy a chuckle because no way could I do that!

We got lucky as it was Circus Royal one of Australia's best circuses and it is their 50th anniversary so they put on quite the show for everyone who attended.

COVID restrictions were in place so masks must be worn at all times and it was a reduced capacity show. Still a wonderful event and what topped it off was that lil miss' best friend was also in attendance so I was a little cheeky and moved spots to sit next to them. I got ushered back to my spot at one stage and lil miss totally left me on my own pretending she didn't know me. Already bailing on me for her friends 🤣

It was a wonderful night and a great first experience at what entertainment is, in a world currently grapling with COVID I really enjoyed the break to normality.

Although circuses are not to my liking because of the long years of mistreatment of animals, I know well that they have changed a lot especially with the animal protection laws, I find your experience fascinating because really after so much time of confinement I myself would have felt the need to enter and take a look after the long confinement, it is always good to have varied activities and with great care for the virus as you say. I'm sure the little lady really enjoyed that afternoon at the circus.

So exciting to be able to do something like this on the spur of the moment again. Melbourne has experienced the west of the lockdowns, so it's lovely to hear they're finally lifting.

This pandemic is also one of the reasons why I chose to resign from my city job and move to a countryside (my hometown) where my family will be safer. Speaking of going out, my son too now is more eager to go out and play with his cousins since this is the first he will ever get to play with them, it really is a hard time for all of us. Keep safe.
