Carnivals and Carnivores - Hive Finland Meetup

sirkus1.jpg

These pictures have not much to do with todays little meetup, but since it's all fun and games up in here and I took these on my way home from the meetup, I think they would suit well enough.

This was for my knowledge the first Hive Finland meeting, the previous one with some of the same players was last year during the time of the chain we shall no longer speak of.

What happens in a Hive meetup, stays in Hive meetup...

...but along with me, the people present were @insaneworks, @celestal, @rrusina and @gamer00. We spend quite a few hours together and the conversations flowed pretty easily. Topics ranged from photography to planting false memories, so while I think I really enjoyed myself, I can't trust my memory. If it's all same to you, I'll just believe my brain and say it was once again fantastic to hang out with these brilliant people Hive ecosystem harbours.

Until next time, long live HIVE!

Here's a photo... I was behind the camera I sadly couldn't join in.

I had to redact the one with the Porche. It was a nice Porche though.

Lies! I know for a fact that you're a Fezza fan, and you'd never let your manly self be seen in that. Where's your F430 Spider now, eh? XD

Oh yeah, I was going to bring it but it wasn't going very well...Just like Scuderia Ferrari in the F1 currently.

It's funny, because there's a common understanding that if Ferrari does absolute shite in F1, their road-cars are amazing. Vice versa, if their road-cars are shit, you know that their F1 team is going to win absolutely every race. It's the Ferrari Curse, and seeing how awesome their road-going cars are these days, you can imagine...

I'll never own one and so don't really care too much about how their road cars go.

On another note, I'll be adding some accessories to the Landcruiser soon. Il do a post. Bullbar, lift kit with GVM upgrade and some spot lights. Probably $7000 or so. I'll do a post about it though, explaining the concepts.

You're most welcomed to be a part of the conversation, and I do love this rally car you have here. That said, I don't actually don't follow rally so much, so this is beyond my knowledge :-( . I do believe this is Gazoo Racing's (GR) - Toyota's in-house motorsports division - version of the Yaris mini hatchback. It's small, but very mighty, and it's proven fairly successful in the rallying scene so far... :-D

Didn’t F1 die like 5 years ago already, too much regulation and not enough action. I didn’t think anyone really followed it anymore. Rally is where its at! Sadly the best rally, Jyväskylä, also home for Gazoo Racing, was cancelled due to Covid.

Didn’t F1 die like 5 years ago

No one sent me this memo and so I'll keep watching. I think what died 5 years ago was the career of Kimi Räikkönen, no one told him either, so he's still there bringing up the rear each week.

Aye, I've been following Alfa Romeo Sauber, since I like Alfa's road cars. But I will say, I don't think they've had a proper crack at top 10 places yet. They really need to do something with their cars, since Kimi and Antonio are pretty great drivers.

Let's see how they go...But regardless of the car issues, Kimi is at the end of his F1 career. I like him, but wish he had pulled the pin a little earlier, back when he was getting good results. Maybe he likes it so much he is happy to run at the back though.

That's probably true, he's perhaps lost a bit of that magic since his early days. Never too late to retire though, like that other legendary Finn who battled Schumacher like a god who's name I can't remember. Hopefully, we'll get to see a bit more awesome racing from him before he leaves for good, though.

Yep...I was at the track in Adelaide when he crashed and had an emergency tracheotomy trackside. He was in the Royal Adelaide Hospital for ages recovering. Great driver, good chap too.

1995 (I was 25)

Watch it all the way.

Now this is some old-school F1 that I love, and with legendary names that I'd once forgotten. But bugger me, that looks like a painful incident.

I've been watching F1 since 1979 and have loved all the different eras of it. The sport has changed so much, the personalities. It's been really interesting to see the changes. It will be interesting to see where it goes from 2022 when the regulations change too.

avatar

It's true, they all have their own characters, though I do miss the old V12s howling around the circuit, echoing off the stands. Time change, but it's still a lot of fun today, no doubt. I heard that they're changing the regs in 2022, so fingers crossed it won't ruin it.

0

They're changing the regulations to bring the cars closer together, reducing budgets and complicated aerodynamics, changing wheel size and stuff too. I think it should be good as theoretically the cars will be able to run closer behind one another due to a deduced amount of turbulent air coming off the aero on the car in front.

It was meant to be in 2021, but Covid fucked that up. Now 2022. See the video below.

Ah, cheers for that. Hopefully, this'll mean more wheel to wheel, and bumper to bumper action. Plus, I'm hoping that changing the regs on spending would make the teams a bit more even. Maybe now, Alfa Sauber could catch up to the big boys.

That's the plan behind it all, so could be good. You know, Mercedes spend over $500,000,000 per season to run two cars. Five hundred million. It's far too much and other teams, Williams and AlfaTauri, Haas etc. just cannot match it. So, some equalisation will be good I think.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Wow, I didn't know it was that much! It really is a huge fortune to spend, and there's loads of other smaller teams that ought to be at a natural disadvantage. No matter how good the driver is, if your car isn't up to snuff with the big leagues, it's inconceivable to win. Keen to see how 2022 will balance everyone out.

I think this is one of the problems with the results-disparity. Lack of funding means lack of resources, testing wind-tunnel time...A whole gamut of things. That translates to a slower car. It is why the teams struggle so hard to get points as F1 pay millions in prize money depending on where a team finishes. Unsurprisingly the Scuderia get the most even when losing. The disparity in money-distribution from F1 to the teams is a point of contention obviously. 2020 should clear some of that up I hope. Now Liberty Media own F1 I think it'll slowly become a little more like INDYcars. That's not a bad thing. I just want to see good racing.

Ah, that's an interesting thought to consider. I actually don't know much about the behind-the-scenes for how F1's finances and economics work, but there should certainly be a more even distribution of funds and resources, just to balance it all out. If that guarantees more nitty gritty racing, then I'm all in for it :-D

There's a lot of Ferrari's in that race above...They just keep coming. Amazing how they all take the exact same racing line. Best drivers in the world.

Ah, there's certainly a lot of Ferraris. But trust me, if you keep watching, there's a Merc coming along the rear. Keep watching. Blink, and you might miss it!

Ah ok, I'll keep watching...I'll let you know when all the Ferrari's are through and the Merc comes past...Stay tuned.

I will agree to that, mostly. It's still a fun sport to watch, though you're right, a lot of the increased rules and regulations really hamper the fun. I've just been watching clips of old F1 races on YouTube, and that's wasted a lot of my time. Rally is pretty great, though I'd love to see more manufacturers join in 🙃

I'll do a post about each thing at some stage. Because of the covid shut-downs it might be a few months before the parts are manufactured, but I'll do something up and get it posted.

Well, in the original Planet of the Apes movie and series there was an ape called Galen. True story.

Honestly, I tried to make a joke about a planet with your name on it. I basically Googled "planet galen", and I found the reference to the Planet of the Apes. That's the origins of how this joke began.

The old G-dog couldn't make it...And wasn't actually invited so...Yeah, feeling left out right now. :)

I really want to say something different as a few have praised that second image but...Sometimes one needs to follow the crowd. Nice snap.

IF you had been in Finland, you would had been invited for sure!

Well sometimes the crowd is right and it would be stupid to disagree just because. ;)

Aww, thanks Eve. Would have been cool. There will be a chance, when this flu fucks off.

Oh yeah, sometimes the crowd is right, why forge ones own path when the crowd has created one already?

Hope you're having a good weekend.

Considering I walked 12km yesterday, I'd say yes, it almost was 😂😅

Almost the same here. My numbers for yesterday is 12,7 km and 16642 steps. And I spent 3 hours in the train so that's a lot although it didn't seem like a lot at that time. Except for the heat that took it's toll of course.

Damn it, 12,4km for me to be exact.

I bet I walked 300 meters in the shopping malls searching for a toilet. Or perhaps that was more, 300 meters was the flea market visit.

Lovely photos! It's great to see these meetups happening, where us Hivers (Hive-ians?) can engage with each other beyond our avatars. Hopefully someday, we'll have a meetup with more than just a few people, eh? 😁
