Manual Curation vs. Auto Voting

avatar

Hello everyone! Hope you're all doing well. This is, most likely, going to be a short post and a little bit different from what I usually share but I thought I'll give my perspective on this topic, based on my experience.

Manual Curation vs. Auto Votes.png

Since joining the Steem blockchain three years ago, I did all my voting manually, as everyone did before voting trails were available. Anyone remembers when payouts would happen after 24 hours? Even when voting trails became a thing, it took me a while to join one as I always enjoyed reading posts from people I follow as well as finding new ones to comment and vote for. Eventually, I did joined some voting trails I really thought were worth it and I believe provided an amazing support to quality content and authors. Together with auto voting, I also did manual curations, sometimes on regular basis, sometimes not that often, depending on my activity.

Now that I have moved from STEEM to HIVE and my Steem power down is in the process, I have decided to leave every trail related to Steem I was part of. I have been thinking for a while now about this and for some reason, it wasn't an easy decision to make. Maybe I should have left it for a little bit longer as power down takes quite some time. I might still check SteemPeak just to upvote some posts but once my power down is done and I get rid off my STEEM, that is going to be the official end of that chapter of my crypto life, lol.

My Plans For Hive

For now, I don't think I will join any voting trails (I'm not even sure if they are available for HIVE yet). I will try to find and upvote posts I like that are not only on my feed but in differents communities, tags... In 2019. when I wasn't active at all on STEEM, voting trails were a good way to still give my upvotes even though it wasn't that much at all even at 100%. When I got back to it at the beginning of this year, I was still part of trails but I also did manual voting. Since I've been active on the daily basis for the majority of this years so far, I feel like manual curation is the best choice for me here on HIVE. I hope I will be able to get my Hive Power to a higher level and I'll do my best to do so! I might change my mind in the future, nothing is set in stone but now I am just following my intuition and what feels good. :)

I have leased out all my steem to other projects on their because I don’t feel like curating in 2 chains!

Will do all my manual curating on HIVE and on a few tribe sites

Yeah, curating on two chains could be too time consuming, lol.

Thanks for sharing your solutions! :)

it is actually quite nice doing manual curation!

Much nicer on HIVE!

Indeed! I've noticed already that I enjoy manual curation a lot more than before.

It feels much freer (and more enjoyable) for there to be no voting chain for me to lead here. Liking that and won't do that one again. :) I'm more conscious and supporting more diverse content, through my feed, and liking that. Not actually all that enamoured with the community thing either, I have to say - feels a bit too insular and cliquey, and keeps people out of the loop. Nice to see you out here. 😊

It is nice, although I probably will jump back onto auto for some people - I'm a bit of a curation maximalist and for that you simply need to jump on people @ 4 mins!

I can't see why one would post to a community other than to one's blog.

The exception for me there is my splinterlands posts - that's a 'real niche' - I could include my running posts in that, but I like to brag, so everyone can see those!

Happy to be here!

I'm with you!! I am no longer leading the ecotrain upvote chain on Hive (since there isn't one) and am clearing out of steem asap - NO INTEREST in playing on both chains, after the censorship and BS games from JS and the tron camp.

So I have gone back to manual voting, from my feed and in one or two communities. Upvoting things which pique my interest, supporting the top 5 or 6 posts which pop up on my feed (if I like them). Tightening up who I follow.

It feels clean and nice to really be MORE PRESENT with the upvote/support process... less tag driven and more diverse.

Thanks for mirroring my feelings. :)

This! Same for me. It just feels like a big overall cleanse, haha.

Thanks for the feedback, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who went down this road. :D

Well this is a nice part of you I believe. <3
This shows you like to be engaged and have a peer to peer interaction with the creators and somehow feel the human relationship? :)

Thank you so much!

I do feel motivated to engage more, support people I follow and also find new creators/content to support. I am loving this fresh start and I feel like content and creativity of people on HIVE is getting even better! :)
