Follow Friday: Beat it!

The News

I would not recommend looking at the crypto prices unless you on a buying spree. I do not worry too much about the $HIVE price generally. It is doing well compared with a year ago and we have healthy development going on as well as lots of new people joining up.

Prices

@splinterlands is into another phase of card sales with Chaos Legions available to anyone now. I am still buying some with what I make on the game. I see people opening thousands of packs and that must take a while. We shall see how their investment plays out in the long run, but the game seems to be booming.

I do not keep up with all that is happening on Hive, but others cover it better. I am finding the Cryptomaniacs podcast from @jongolson and @taskmaster4450 informative. They have @brianoflondon on the latest show.

Friday Followings

This is the 'meat' of #FollowFriday. We can help build the community by connecting people with others they will find interesting. I have my own preferences, but maybe you will find something good here.

  • My friend @daniellemurray just joined Hive. We have been making music as @swing47 and in other settings for some time. She has a podcast at @radioliquorice.
  • As I am into drumming I looked around for drummers and found @gianpaolo081. He has played with some big names and just came back to Hive after a break. I need to check out some more of his old posts.
  • I just found @orestistrips from Greece who also likes his drums as well as his motorcycle.
  • @katharsisdrill had some time away from Hive too, but is back again with more weird and wonderful are as well as a surreal comic.
  • @mizuosemla has translated my Hive guide into Japanese

The Doghouse

No particular 'victims' this week, but I recommend this post by @adamada about the value of your reputation on Hive. We get people coming in trying to just make a quick buck by dishonest means. They will generally not get far before being spotted and their accounts may just get trashed. What goes on Hive stays there forever, so you should consider if you want to stand by what you post. If you can build a good reputation (which is not just a number) then you can do better. A good reputation can soon be lost if you misbehave and will not be easy to regain.

The End

I hope people are not too stressed out by the state of the markets. We can keep earning from the various Hive dapps anyway. Play the long game and you could do well, but we each contribute something to building up the platform. Support a small account or bring in new people. Every user counts.

Hive five!

Yeah, the markets suck but I know they will recover. This is just a great time to keep plugging away. I do wish I had a bit more money available to take advantage of the dip, but I will just have to wait until next time.

Great stuff. Thanks for the pointer to the Cryptomaniacs podcast. I don't have much time to keep up either, so it's always good to find things like that.

(btw, I haven't forgotten your offer to help me with compiling my ex-pats in Japan list. Just haven't found the time to devote more to it. and now with me taking on more with Blockchain Poets, who knows. Someday I'll get more organised and get to it. haha. Anyway, thank you for your offer a few months ago)

Give me a nudge when you want to do something. I'll help where I can.

I like what you said, that we each contribute something to building up the platform and that all users count, including the brand new users.

Well I believe it :) Hive is still pretty small for now, so we can make a difference. If the right people join up it could grow quickly.

Too late, I already checked the prices as soon as I woke up this morning. And then I fell into a minor bout of despair. I was kind of hoping the bear market wasn't going to hit us this time. Maybe this is just a small dip. We can hope.

Well it's much bigger than $HIVE. We need to get it up the ranks.

Agreed on many accounts.

Should not be worried about the market, ups an downs are part of crypto world. We definitely have many dapps on HIVE to keep earning. Good posts/contents keep having good upvotes, upvoters adjust their votes according to the prices. Not talking about the games, their tokens, in any case, keep adjusting with the market.

Secondly ... the bloggers, who use dishonest or otherwise means to get upvotes, could be successful for short span of time but in long run they will have to put honest efforts in their work, otherwise, people soon forget them, at least, the people/upvoters/supporters who count.

I was just thinking that some people actually post less when the price goes down as it seems less worthwhile, but I'll keep at it. That pays off when it goes back up.

I value the support I get and am not going to jeopardise that. I find honesty really is the best policy.

Very True.

Oh man, do I know what you’re talking about! I’ve been watching it myself and kind of figured this bull run would be ending soon. I mean, crypto tends to follow the NASDAQ and with all the crazy stuff going on in the stock market, it was a matter of time before crypto followed. I don’t think we’ll see an improvement until March. Maybe after the feds raise the interest rate will things actually start to go back north. Who knows though. I have a little cash saved aside in case five drops down to low… Then I’ll be buying!

There are so many factors in play that I can't attempt to follow it. If it were so easy to predict then we could all be rich. I think we just need to keep building communities here. It's a better time investment than certain other platforms.

Nice one for bringing your friend to Hive @steevc - and for finding drummers too! I'm gradually making a list of musicians on Hive so I'll add those.

Still working on getting some more musicians I know here! Do you have a normal approach to doing so? I have found that I've overwhelmed a couple with all the info and maybe scared them off.

It can be hard work getting someone up to speed. You have to set their expectations well, but they need the basics of key handling and post formatting. This is why I did my FAQ post and I will develop that further.

Yeah - I guess I just need to figure out what I need to tell them to get them started and then help them on their journey once they start.. will work on this...
