*To those who follow us regularly, you will know what that is in the picture.😁...if not, read on.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!

Last night I drove and got some equipment from a friend to make building the roof a lot easier. Then today, I was able to begin. After setting up my friends scaffolding I was at the perfect height to start my work.

The first step to this process was to get the tops of the logs to all be the exact same height...But how to do that when they span 18 feet(6meters) in distance? Well, I wasn't sure how anyone else would have done it, but I came up with a plan.

It involved some 2x4s, screws, a string line, a level.....and my Alaskan sawmill.(Here is a post with a tutorial of the first time using my homemade sawmill.)

My thought process was if I can use it to make demential boards, why couldn't it be adapted to cut log tops perfectly flush? This is how I did it...

FIRST, I FOUND LEVEL

*It's a terrible picture, but hopefully you'll get the gist of it.😁 Sorry.

Using my trusty string line and string level, I was able to draw a line at the exact same height across all my logs. Then, using those lines as a guide I was able to screw a 2x4 to the logs on one side of them. Then I repeated the process on the opposite side ensuring that the two boards were level with one another and along the tops of the logs.

A BASIC JIG

So with everything level and secured, it was time to test my idea out. I gathered up the pieces I needed for the sawmill and installed it on the boards(my basic jig).

BUT DID IT WORK?!?

Not only did it get the job done, it did an amazing job of it!!!(Except me hitting one of the screws and having to stop to sharpen the chainsaws teeth.😁😁)

A FEW MORE TO GO...

A lot of today was me learning to do this and improvising along the way. I still have the logs that make up the other walls to cut. But I got half my jig step up today for the second wall, and tomorrow I should be way quicker and more efficient at doing the work. So I'm hoping to finish this tomorrow so i can start installing the roof supports this week.

*The second wall logs almost set up to be cut.

That's it for me today friends as I still have a few other chores to tend to and bedtime is fast approaching. Thank you all for coming along and as always a huge thank you(and some even bigger hugsπŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—) for all our supporters out there. We love and appreciate each and everyone of you!
