Stick with me for a minute....Kinda long-winded story but there IS a moral to this.... We woke up early to enjoy the morning chill. After taking care of the pets and having a bite of breakfast we headed out to the local kids group, Lil' Soil Trotters- Nature and Craft lovers youth group, to make corn husk dolls with friends! Fun!

We hung around for a few hours at the local community art center chatting and Kaliah got some much-needed playtime and socializing with her friends. They ran around the open field, played tag, climbed trees, and just had so much fun. Afterward, we stopped at the grocery on the way back to pick up an ingredient we needed to make dinner. When we got back we did LOTS of homeschooling....the 13 colonies, Declaration of Independence, American Revolutionary War, Constitution...ya know...history stuff. ;) She worked on 2 more letters for cursive writing and did a little math on her online school. While she was occupied with that, I got to ship out a few Etsy orders, visit with the chickens and allow them to free-range for a bit...enjoy their silly personalities. While I was out there I walked the garden. I noticed the mulberries are producing another round!! That made me super happy. Then I put the chickens up for the night just as the sun was going down. It was a little dark but yet just a little light. I was drawn to a smell coming from the far left side of the food forest, by the moringa tree. I know my moringa is in bloom but from all the years we have grown them I don't remember them to have a smell but I thought...hmmm...maybe. I walk up close, being careful because there are a lot of luffa vines all over. As I get to it, I lean in to sniff, I get a good whiff of whatever sweet floral smell I'm smelling and can't tell if it is in fact from the moringa or not. I look around to see what else could be making this smell. It's such a beautiful smell! Then I see her. I look in closer...what is that?? Is it what I think?? It's a hummingbird! This late in the season and this late at night, buzzing around the squash and passionfruit flowers. I stick my hand out with one finger pointed and she perched on me!! I sat there still as could be....taking in this beautiful smell, moon big and bright overhead, and this sweet, gentle, and so tiny hummingbird on my finger. At that moment, I felt like it doesn't get much better. It hit me all at once....I get to grow my own food, walk to the beat of my own drum, work from home and be able to school and raise my own child....I get to walk out into my food forest, in nature, whenever I want. I get to smell the fresh air, see and hear the beautiful creatures. I get to taste the sweetest and juiciest foods to touch my tongue, fresh from the plants. It's pretty amazing, isn't it?? Such a blessing for sure.

My new little friend flew off and I went inside to tell Kaliah all about it. As I get inside I hear a pack of coyotes howling just behind our fence. I text my neighbor to tell her what I'm hearing and she tells me she hears an owl who'ing too! So cool. Nature is so active this time of year. Such beautiful energy abound between friends, plants, the moon, and all the living nature creatures. I absolutely LOVE this time of year. It totally makes me feel connected. As busy as today was....It's been such a beautiful wonderful day!! Now, time to log in to work. I hope you all enjoyed your day as much as we did!!

With lots of love

Oh my! This gave me goosebumps! What an incredible day!

We have lots of hummingbirds, in season, but have never had one perch on us. I wish I could again hear the coyotes howl, but they have been pretty much wiped out around here.

Not quite a week ago, the owls started in about 7:30 just as we were going to bed, and were still going at it at 5AM when I got up. I don't remember ever hearing them so early. It's usually January into February we hear them.

We are lucky, to be able to raise our own food. I also homeschooled my son, now 28, from the beginning. And we just love watching "wildlife TV" as we call it, from our dining room table and when we are outside.

You have been visited by @minismallholding one behalf of @HomeEdders.

That's an amazing experience! At the @HomeEdders we currently have a challenge What benefits, perks or advantages or advantages have you experienced from homeschooling? which this comment:

>I get to grow my own food, walk to the beat of my own drum, work from home and be able to school and raise my own child...

made me think of, as I've just been writing my response. If you feel like adding your own response, the challenge is still open.
