The Fantastica Chronicles (Day 372)

Hello Everyone!

A brief introduction: Hi I am Jacob.

TL;DR: There is no tl;dr because you should have more patience and attention span than a gnat on a high wind.

The Fantastica Chronicles Day 372!

A Mellow Day Of Music, Food & Giving The Dogs A Bath

I managed to get to bed pretty early last night even though I had slept most of the day. I did wake up repeatedly throughout the night but each time I eventually dozed back off again and wound up getting a decent night's sleep. Around seven thirty this morning I got up out of bed and brewed my morning espresso. Last night I used a blanket for the first time since the spring and it was much cooler this morning than it has been the last few days but it warmed up rather quickly outside once the sun was all the way up.

Since it was such a nice and sunny day I went ahead and gave all the dogs a bath again and washed my dog that has had the problems with her skin with that anti-fungal and anti-microbial shampoo which seems to help her a lot because her skin once again looked less irritated afterwards. The other dogs I washed only with some flea and tick shampoo because after that bath I gave them the other week with the pharmaceutical shampoo it seems to have been sufficient to stop whatever it was that was going on with their skin also. I still think that it was/is some sort of fungus and perhaps that lead to the 'hot spots' that I mentioned before. I am just happy that they are all looking better and I think that between the eggs and tuna that I have been giving my one dog her fur will grow back in before the winter.

I did not really do much today besides make a few mixtape tracks, listen to some music, do my routine chores, make more ashes in the fire pit and have that 'feast' that I mentioned making for myself in yesterday's post. It really was not all that much of a feast because it was just a bunch of sausage that I melted cheese over and then covered them both with a big heap of sauerkraut. I kind of over did it with the quantity and could not finish it so I saved the rest for either a late night snack or for lunch tomorrow.

Late in the day while I was filling the dogs' water jug (that I use to add water to their food) two of my dogs saw something in the woods and pushed the gate open because I failed to lock the bottom of it. My boy dog was one of them that ran off but he came back rather quickly but the other dog (my pack leader) was gone for almost two hours which is a really long time for her. I walked all over looking for her and calling her and wore myself out pretty good in the process because I hiked up and down the paved road near here a few times and even wandered up a gravel road that I had never been on and then through the woods back to the shelter site. The entire time that I was looking for her my mind of course conjured up all the worse case scenarios and I basically just stressed myself out about it all. Right when I gave up looking and started to feed the dogs she showed up at the gate more or less slinking on her belly while she looked at me with that 'I know I did wrong' look and of course I could barely scold her for it because I was so relieved to see her.

Anyway, I am fading fast now after all the hiking that I did and better wrap this up so that I can do the editing and posting and unwind for the evening. I hope that everyone is doing well and has a nice day/night.

Thanks for reading!

More about me: I have been doing property caretaking (land stewardship) for many years (decades) and live a rather simple life with my dogs doing what most folks would consider to be an 'alternative minimalist lifestyle' but what I often just think of as a low-impact lifestyle where I get to homestead and spend the majority of my time alone with my dogs in the woods doing projects in the warmer months and taking some downtime during the colder months.

A little over three years ago I began sharing the adventures (misadventures) of my life via writing, videos, pictures and the occasional podcasts and although my intention was to simply share my life with some friends it undoubtedly grew into much more than that over the years and now I find myself doing what equates to a full-time job just 'sharing my life' which is not even all that glamorous or anything but hey folks seem to enjoy it so I just keep doing it!

The way that the Fantastica Chronicles came about is that I was living at another place when I started chronicling and sharing my days but eventually I wound up moving to a new place. The new place is a homestead named 'Fantastica' so I started with 'Day 1' upon my arrival here and just kept documenting my days much like I had done for the previous nine hundred and fifty-seven days at the last place that I lived.

I have mostly done that 'documenting' at Fantastica exclusively with words (and pictures) opting not to do the videos because as I learned at the last place, sharing videos over an intermittent and slow internet connection is horribly time consuming and what I often think of as an 'ulcer inducing' experience. All that said, I opted for simplicity with the documentation and have no real regrets for doing so.

The way that I look at it is that I give it all my best each day and while some stuff I write is better than others I think that for the most part I do a pretty good job at doing what I am doing which is simply 'sharing my life' as candidly as I possibly can and whatever folks get (or do not get) from it there is always the satisfaction of me doing what I set out to do... which is to simply share my life.
