AN AWESOME WEEK

This week was a great week concerning things moving along at the homestead. We had a few big accomplishments and one AMAZING DISCOVERY!!!(Stay tuned to hear about it.)

ROOF TRUSSES

The main support beams(trusses) were the big focus this week.

And after several days, we had put nine of them in place. There will be a total of 18, so half way done. Completing this step will allow me to start on the actual roof and then the floor and walls. This needs to be done before it turns to cold, or in about a month.(hopefully)

THE CHICKENS ARE PREPARING FOR EASTER😁

Only kind of joking, as they are now producing FIVE different colors of eggs. Blue, green, brown, tan....and now RED!!!

I'm actually pretty hopeful I can sell them around Easter time as an all natural solution to buying dye from the store to dye them. I don't know if I'll have any luck, but I'm going to try.😁

AN AMAZING DISCOVERY AT THE HOMESTEAD

A few days ago as I was making my way out of the forest where the homestead is, I stumbled across a really neat treasure, I hadn't noticed yet.

*A fun game...do you see it in the picture? It's a hornets nest. Let me know in the comments if you found it.😁😁

A closer look at the nest....

This one in particular is about the size of a basketball and full of enough bald hornets to kill a human. But they also eat a lot of bugs that are considered pests, so we consider these guys(and gals) our friends and will live in harmony with them.

"Bald-faced hornets are omnivorous and are considered to be beneficial due to their predation of flies, caterpillars, and spiders. However, their aggressive defensive nature makes them a threat to humans who wander too close to a nest or when a nest is constructed too close to human habitation. They vigorously defend the nest, with workers stinging repeatedly, as is common among social bees and wasps. However, the baldfaced hornet has a unique defense in that it can squirt or spray venom from the stinger into the eyes of vertebrate nest intruders. The venom causes immediate watering of the eyes and temporary blindness." Source: Wikipedia

HUNTING SEASON BEGINS

Deer season has opened up and I am now also trying to hunt to provide food for my family while working the homestead. I ask that everyone wishes me luck and keeps us in their thoughts as this is going to be an important season for us.

I am not fond of bees nor wasps.. although I know they are a necessity.

I am planning to embark on making of a cabinet that would house a sink... scary...
