Young Green Grasshopper

Grasshopper is a herbivorous insect from the suborder Caelifera in the order Orthoptera. This insect has an antenna that is almost always shorter than its body and also has a short ovipositor. The sound made by some grasshopper species is usually produced by rubbing the rear femur against the front wing or abdomen (called stridulation), or because of the flapping of its wings while flying. Femur behind is generally long and strong which is suitable for jumping.

These insects are generally winged, although sometimes their wings cannot be used to fly. Female grasshoppers are generally larger than male grasshoppers.

In Islamic Religion, Grasshopper is one of two animals which, if they have died before, are still allowed to eat, along with fish.

Grasshoppers prefer open areas that are valleys with lots of grass and other low plants, although several other species live in forests or wild forests. Some are on cliffs, dirt, and mossy mossy rocks and consume moss.

Many grasshopper species that live in grasslands often attack neighboring farmers' fields. The population of excess grasshoppers will be very detrimental to farmers if they attack crops on plantations.

In some countries, grasshoppers are consumed as a source of protein. For example in southern Mexico, chapulines are preferred because of their high protein, mineral and vitamin content.
