Everything starts happening on June 7th, everything was quiet in a humble ranch in Port Royal, a family was tasting a routine day. Randall, an excellent young athlete, went out to practice as he did every day, leaving his mother to take care of the home while his father went to work. An earthquake shook Port Royal, leaving a large part of the city under water. Everything was a catastrophe, houses collapsed and a large number of people had not been able to survive the natural phenomenon, including Randall's parents.

All of Jamaica was shaken by the news of the earthquake. Randall, when he heard the news, quickly went home, but he was able to reach a certain part of the city, because everything was flooded and destroyed. Close to his family, he was informed that unfortunately his parents could not survive due to different circumstances, Randall, moved by the tragic news, collapsed on the floor, starting to scream and cry disconsolately.

Several days passed, but Randall remains in the same place where the waters had come, looking very tired and dirty, even with tears on his face. A group of young people manage to see him and offer Randall something, Randall could see that it was marijuana that they had given him, he smoked it as if it was something normal for him, he coughed heavily because he had never smoked, however he continued to smoke from the grass, he got up and began to walk with the boys, he joined a gang of social disobedience. Randall forgot about his potential athletic skills and fell into the world of bums and thugs, along with his classmates lived intensely from theft and vandalism, but one day Randall began to get sick, his lungs had collapsed from so much marijuana inhalation, he began to spit blood through his mouth, until suddenly he passed out, the other young people who were with him at that time, left as if nothing happened, one of them managed to say, - this one already died, we better get out of here!.

Matheus, a religious man and a believer in Christianity, sees a boy on the floor with blood on his hands, Randall moves a little to ask for help, and Matheus arrives and picks him up. Matheus says to him.

Matheus takes Randall to a medical care house, there several people receive him to attend him, after a check-up, Randall is told that he has pneumonia, his breathing is abnormal. Randall, a little arrogant, starts to say. -Matheus, who was still there, answered Randall, "The Lord has better things for us, we just have to go to Him! Matheus continues. Randall answers with a violent tone, "Where was he when my parents died? Matheus, calm and collected as he used to be, answered him: he was there with you, he protected you, it wasn't your day, he still has a mission for you!

Annoyed Randall gets up and leaves the room where he was being treated, Matheus goes out to look for him to calm him down and talk to him. Matheus invites him to visit with him a religious site where he can meet again with the Lord and with himself. Randall, dismayed but aware of the life he had taken, decides to accept Matheus' invitation, who had shown him to be a true friend by not leaving him alone as those with whom he smoked and stole did.

Several weeks passed and Randall felt like a new young man, ready to be useful to society. He decided to go again to the place where he practiced athletics and spoke with those in charge at that time to put himself at the disposal of the local youth to undertake and develop this excellent discipline of sport, Randall addressed them saying, - I have lost my youth to darkness but today I have regained the light and I want to share with you this new mission that the Lord gave me.

This story was motivated by the message shown in the song "I Can See Clearly Now" interpreted by the Jamaican Jimmy Cliff from his album Higher & Higher and by a phrase he left in an interview :

"I admire the people who have made
some impact on humanity for the better and they would be such
like Marcus Garvey and Mahatma Gandhi, as well as our own Jamaican
heroes like Nanny and Louise Bennett."

Here are the lyrics and video of this beautiful song

All your stories could be a book series turn Netflix series.

But one part confused me.

....including Randall's parents, who had left the city for their athletic training.

But I thought his mom was at home and dad at work ?

Interesting story . Paragraph 3 might read better if you added some periods or other end marks (. ? !)
I like a good short story - thanks for sharing.
