I'm not sure what Japan Day is, maybe a day to appreciate Japanese culture?
Liberation Day is called "Victory over Japan Day" (V-J) outside of Korea.

What a pity the split happened in Korea, it could be a powerful country if united as one again, though that will not happen soon by the looks of it.

Today the president said he hopes it will happen by 2045 (100 years anniversary), so at least he is realistic about the situation.

Actually Korea tried to unify under the People's Republic of Korea. US army banned them in the South and USSR turned it into a communist Democratic party in the North which cemented the division of Korea ensuring it would last longer than the 3 year transitional government and planned division.

Korea has a pretty complex history with it's neighbours... it was interesting to learn more about a part of the world that I honestly don't know that much about! Thanks for sharing the history!

I've been studying Korean history for about 15 years and I still don't know most of it. However, 1945 alone is very important for the entire modern world. I would say definitely the most important year in the last 100 if not more. The entire cold war and most countries would look completely different if it went another way. Mistrust between Stalin Churchhill and Rosevelt was legendary. I often wonder what the world would have been like if Rosevelt didn't die in April 1945.

Howdy sir abitcoinskeptic! this is a wonderful refresher course of what happened back then and of the current status. I hope Korea can become united again one day soon but I don't know how it can come about.

No one knows how it will come about, but the general consensus is a hope for peaceful union which may require some time.
