Hive user retention is an issue! We need to act

I've been promoting HIVE and recruiting new users for a while now. 2 months ago I noticed that there was a referral program in PeakD so I decided to start using that link, mostly because of the tracking system.

I was very excited because now I could keep tabs on my referrals, comment on their posts and help them grow.

I never expected the results to be this bad! Recruited 10 people, only one of them posted something but seems to be inactive now! By analyzing my very small and insignificant sample: only 10% of the people who register actually try to post something and then quit after making 2 posts.

Only people with a lot of dedication manage to ride the steep learning curve that a new user is faced with when they first join. I've been around for a long time and things seem very easy to understand now but I remember some huge mistakes I made when I first joined and how clueless I was.

I think that the only reason that made me stay here was finding a Portuguese community that was willing to help me learn the ropes and upvoted my early content.

We need to support new accounts

I went into Leofinance discord where they have a channel that announces every time someone makes a new account. I copy-pasted 22 names from there and only 2 of them made a post... One of them was plagiarism so we're left with one post for every 22 people.

From now on I'm going to start paying more attention to the #introduceyourself and the Leo finance discord to try and help out new users. My upvotes are small but hopefully, they will be enough to motivate people to keep trying. Also going to comment with some useful tips and words of encouragement.

I think it is everyone's responsibility to grow our community I would love to see some of you join me on this! Let's show some appreciation to the new users so that they stay around and tell all their friends to join as well!

This always has been an issue. The problem is 2 sided.
The newcomers do think that they can drop by, post and earn some HIVE. They are blinded by the payouts they do see of people who did create a network.
The oldies do wait until the newcomers do come to them, while sometimes commenting on the post of a whale is a hurdle for some.

I don’t know if there is still the introduce yourself tag. Maybe we as hive oldies should try welcome at least one new member per day or week. This would/could have a massive impact on the retention rate. I used to the do this. Guess I will have to start doing that again.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers,
Peter

I think it's the issue of lack of proper follow up or the issue of users joining with the intention of getting quick money without been grounded with necessary knowledge of the hive blockchain.

Having onboarded about 4 users in the past month, they all seem to be doing really well for themselves as I guide occasionally.

The concentration for newbies should be more engagement. I believe we also need to act as some users found hive while searching online, these one will need some guidance.

I do my best to visit the introduceyourself tag daily to welcome people and offer some form of encouragement

Account of newbie with 0 RC do not help any body.
And good thing is that they even cannot complain it here..

Rest we kill with Auto upvotes , with no scope to interact with newbie.

I used to delegate HP to the people I refer but since only 1 out of 10 decided to publish I stoped doing so... Having my HP locked away in inactive accounts doesn't sit right with me.

The next hardfork will help a ton. Getting rid of convergent rewards and going back to linear will make people more willing to upvote newbies or comments. Basically the way that new accounts usually grow...

I think the problem is most people expect to get rich fast and I remember when I first started, I came in from Splinterlands and didn't even bother making an introduce me post.

I do also recall someone complaining about people making new accounts making posts with the perfect post and tags. So I would not be surprised if someone was milking the pool.

I agree with some of the other voters. Ressource Credits are really an issue, made me wait for 4 days to go on posting :(

Random selection of 10 people really explaining the over the scenario of the newcomers. I think it's a major problem. initially without support many of the users cannot hold their patients. it is really important topic you have come up with and obviously they should have some policies so that we can easily support the newcomers.
