When Life Gives You Lemons -- I
When life gives you lemons - literally and figuratively - with no electricity and real lemons, you make -ades. Marmalade and lemonade. Pics of the latter tomorrow because it's a two-day process.
The power outage was scheduled and so was my day. Koeksisters started before the power was cut (to use the food processor) and then cut, roll, cook, bottle. As appropriate.
As happens with cooking, things don't always turn out as expected. A fabulous bunch of about 60 koeksisters. Perhaps the warmer weather.
The marmalade yielded a bumper batch: a dozen jars are destined for the market and the other five will either hit our breakfast table or become gifts.
Speaking of marmalade and the market, I sold seven jars of marmalade at last Saturday's market. I have had customers buying two and four and another ordering between six and ten.
To seven different people. That's a first.
Seven different customers (yes, Iam repeating myself), is a first: six three fruit and one traditional lime. On Saturday, there will be three marmalades from which to choose: three fruit (the most popular), traditional lime and now lemon.
Until next time, be well

Everything looks amazing, can't wait to see the lemonade, those are all my favourite things! Anything with Lemon is good, I think it's one of the most versatile fruit for cooking and baking. Koeksisters are my absolute favourite and those look soooo good. My next stove will be gas for sure!
One of the regular desserts I did for Sunday Suppers was a lemon loaf/bread. I also love lemon. Actually, I should make some lemon biscuits. I used to make them often and son from another mother loved them when he was a mite! Perhaps I shall!
Very tempting, could I have one jar please? We make pickles with limes.
I have also made pickled limes - and lemons. I will again, but this is a product that sells well at the market.
I understand. I am sure you sell loads of them every season. :D
Congratulations a great post… great job.

Fiona, is that how you grow those lemons? Or do you buy them?
I bought them from a fellow stall holder at the market and who grows them. Our tree's a little small, yet.
Amazing and inspiring!
No power - but you appear to be cooking over a gas range. Mine won't ignite without electricity. Do you use matches?
This is a keeper of a post! Now to make sure I don't lose track of it. Thank you for sharing your ingenuity!
Thank you. Yes, we have a full gas stove. A great decision we made 10 years ago. It does need electricity to ignite, but we can light it manually, which I do - with a lighter. After years and years of outages, we're well prepared lol.
Lovely delicious post @fionasfavourites just love it. Thanks for sharing.
I do not like marmalade of any kind I have tried but looking at those golden jars is making my mouth water :D
