The sun goes down over the European Covid calmness

Summer is partially over and life seems to be getting back to normal again. When you look at Dutch life in the city centre, the only thing that reminds you that Covid is there is that when you book a table with more than 8 people, you need a second table. Life feels normal in Eindhoven.

I watched this documentary earlier in the week which was made at the beginning of the Covid crisis in a nearby hospital. It was kind of heartbreaking to watch it I must admit. This was when everything had just started and how the insecurities were about what was about to happen.

I don't think that in a next crisis these insecurities will be there, we all know what will happen and how the build up has to go to contain the crisis. I do feel that the sentiment per region is different, because not every region was hit that hard in the beginning of the year. Now different regions are having high numbers and I don't think they are responding to it that well.

Also the level of cooperation from the public as well as the health care staff is different compared to the first wave. You can feel it all around. People are not happy with the measures anymore, especially since the Dutch minister of justice was hugging and shaking hands at a wedding. Sentiment is important when delivering a message. The minister isn't delivering at the moment.

The news feed of increasing infections is coming back. Over the Summer it had calmed down for a bit. Europe was calming down. But the infection rate in the countries around us are also increasing as well as the Dutch numbers itself.

I had a colleague say earlier in the week about a trip end of October which has to go through. I'm sorry but has to go through regarding to a vacation trip is absolute crap, especially since they had booked it last June, when Covid was already in the world. It seems naive not realising that there is a high chance of this (non essential) trip not actually happening. I don't get this level of naivity from someone who is also working in healthcare. Even there you see a difference between people who were working on Covid patients and who were not.

I know I always sound very pessimistic regarding Covid and how the world is responding to it. But to me Covid is a game changer of life as we know it, and thinking everything will stay the same after this isn't realistic. I agree that not everything should always be cancelled, but the wilingness of mankind to deal with something new like this is sometimes embarrasing.

Now it is Covid, in a next phase in our lives it will be somethng like MRSA or something else that will be immuun to antibiotics or something else viral. We should realize we are not invincible, and that at some point the scenery of 'The Walking Dead' will happen somewhere.

The funny thing about 'The Walking Dead'is how realistic it is reagrding how the survivors behave themselves, creating their own power situation and survival of the fittest even stealing from other to save themselves.

I do think humanity is like that at the moment. We find ourselves and our well being a bit too important to think about the generations afterwards. We will see how this works out in 50 years.

/End of this depressing rant

Yup people are tired out by the corona shit as a whole ... the minister is NOT delivering the message very well, autumn is slowly setting in, summer is slowly coming to an end ... all not too happy thoughts.

But the good news I can deliver to you is ... Have you seen the new community here at the hive blockchain. "Ladies of Hive"? If not, you're very welcome to join in!

Have a great weekend, enjoy your furbaby and take care!

Covid rant! ❤️❤️❤️

I work in healthcare too. It kills my soul when I see/hear a couple of my co-workers just blowing covid off. My hospital has sent all staff home who don’t work directly with patients for basically forever. So I have been working from home since February. My work team now has weekly Skype calls. One woman in my office was telling us she won’t wear a mask to go out. The same woman wanted us all to come back to work for a face to face 4 hour meeting. She also told a daycare that her child has allergies when he actually had an illness! (The daycare makes all sick kids stay home for 2 weeks just in case they have covid).

Her attitude is soooooo irresponsible. Our hospital literally told us never to come back to the office because it is not safe and she is pretending like covid is no big deal.

It is super frustrating!

its amazing that these kinds of women also work in healthcare right? like then you know just a bit more of what is going on and feel a tiny bit more responsible...at least....that is what you hope for!
