Social Anxiety the problem to deal with

avatar

This is a very common problem that is being observed in the recent times. With the amount of competition in today's world everyone wants to excel, people want to show off their capabilities. But not everyone is same. While some people are extrovert and can easily put across themselves with ease there are a set of people who have all the possible inhibitions to put themselves across. It is not that a person who cannot put across is any less but it is just about the fear of judgement that this person has of how the other person will perceive.

There are number of reasons that can create social anxiety but the one main I can say is the family environment and childhood experiences. As a child if you are always being nagged and if you have not had that space of making your own decisions or doing things freely this gradually takes away the confidence from you of putting yourself across in front of others.

Like as a Child if your parent or your teacher continuously have kept telling you things like, you always do wrong things, you have no sense of doing things, you can never do it by yourself. All of this takes away your capability in believing in your ownself. As you grow up, you will always have thoughts like, does the opposite person like me, am I saying wrong things all the time, when should I speak, do I look okay in front of others. All these self defeating thoughts keep coming to mind.

Even when one goes through some very embarrassing incident then in such times one can lose self confidence and will be in doubts the next time facing such instances. Social anxiety thoughts build up when one is low in self confidence and self esteem. It is not difficult to deal with but it surely needs a lot of self work.
It can also happen because of peer pressure. Pressure to perform beyond capabilities can be really demotivating for a child. Children majorly face this problem because they are all the time targeted with expectations, then be it from their parents, their teachers, other influencers in their life.

Nowadays social media also plays a very good role in creating social anxiety not only in children but in adults as well. People put up all the glamourous part of their life on social media, there will be some who will feel deprived of this glamour life and they will start feeling they are so much less in life compared to others.

The one way to deal with Social anxiety is to build up mental strength because that helps build up self-esteem and self-confidence of a person. Taking help from support systems in the family is also a good way to tackle these self defeating thoughts. Being kind to self, practicing relaxation are also some ways to beat social anxiety.

Being an introvert is mostly taken as a personality disorder in our society which I believe is not correct. It's just a characteristic trait and is not developed or inherited. And there's nothing got or bad about it, it's about how you want to conduct yourself in public. It should not be criticized or made fun of. It's perfectly ok to be an extrovert or an intorvert.

True, as a child even I was introvert and many people in my own family would call me sly. It was very hurtful and it would bring me down more. I have also faced this problem in my marriage, because people would think that I am acting pricy and I do not like to talk with them. Seriously it is a big matter to deal with.
