Enjoy the monsoon

The monsoon season has started. It is raining almost non-stop and the walls and floors are becoming damper than before. Yes, the clothes too do not dry as you would want them to be.

You must be wondering where I am. I live in Kerala and hereabouts, the monsoon. season starts around June and extends to September.

Years before, when I was a small child, I remember going to school wearing a raincoat that was pink in color and had Bata sandals on because shoes were excused till the rains stopped. Even though there was a raincoat, the bag used to get wet somehow and the books inside too. During those days, we did not have plastic kits and even if it was there, it was not very prevalent.

The smell of rain and the mud and playing with paper boats along with neighbors brings back memories of a wonderful era. Nowadays, children wouldn't know of paper boats or playing outside in the rain. We did get sick but it wouldn't be treated with alarm.

Natural settings when the rain pours are much better than living in a city without proper drainage. I know because I have lived in both settings. So, the next time, the city lights allure you, remember that 'all that glitters is not gold.

Rains are nice but make sure you eat the right foods and prepare well.

It is important that you eat hot foods, wear warm clothes, avoid damp settings and sleep on warm beds. Shut the windows if there is a breeze that blows the rain right through your window. Dry the clothes inside if possible in a room that you do not use because the dampness could affect your health.

Stay safe and I hope the Covid phase ends soon.

The photos are mine and it is a harsh reminder of the days when we too had to move and relocate to avoid the floodwaters. We were able to donate food and clothes thanks to the help provided by many including the members of the Hive blockchain.

Your region gets flooded every year Di? Or it's due to harsh rain during 2k18.

It gets heavy rain but this flood was mostly because of the miscalculation by the engineers and the minister as they did not expect the dam to get filled within three or four days and the water just simply had to be let out and it flooded so much that nearly every place was under water. Hope we don't get to see it again.

Hey, floods are geting very common, its good that you did something good distributing to the flood affect...2018 right.

I think the problem is those damn dams ma... at one year massive floods ok... that time they release the flood waters opening the dam gates and they opened all dam gates at one time so there was flooding.

Besides you know ma...daming rivers, they change the course of natural water flow and kill a river...its free flowing nature is gone and all that. So fishes also die, aquatic life are very sensitive to water system changes.

So...its improvable, but break those dams, remove all the encroachments, you know those structures on coastal areas, replant native variety of trees in the area...all this will help in reducing floods.

Love the rains, hate them too... thesedays its inconvenient - flooding, traffic, clothes don't dry but we need it too.

Digging up wells, reviving wet lands and ponds , lakes will also take water and reduce flood stuff.

Redesign of landscaps is urgently needed anyway.

Very true. People start taking down trees and building huge constructions and the water gets logged. Chennai story. Mumbai too. I wish the whole of India gets revamped, lol.
