Riding Ahead of Adversities for 2020

source

If the people in Steemit knows me well enough, I usually do not write controversial and political articles on the internet, be it even on the blockchain that potentially haunts you for the rest of your life as long as Internet, Power supply, and the witness nodes exist.

But today, as we usher ourselves to the end of 2019 and facing 2020, I personally would like to address to my fellow Malaysians who have been painted in fear of the political blackmails including our own very beloved, aged, we all looked up to him as a wise senior “head of State”.

As I have been very busy on Sunday, making every step count for my fitbit and actifit from being on duty since 7am till taking time to mop the flour of my home for a more comfortable sitting for myself and my parents; I had a lot of time to think through this controversial topic that has been opened for the opportunities to circulate poison and fears by so-called leaders who refuses to change and wants to force their doctrine to others.
As you all know, Malaysia is a multi-racial, multi-cultural, mixed even, society where not only our location is quite ideal from most of the horrendous natural disasters, we are one of the society that is so diverse we do not realise we can be a threat to the world if we truly know who we are and our capabilities; which I believe most authoritarians would love to keep us dumb down and fearful.

I speak of this because we are one of the nation that pretty much almost by default need to learn at least 2 major languages + 1 mother tongue. If you are of the Chinese speaking community your main studies in language as young as 4 years old would be Malay, English and Mandarin; and if you are of Tamil / Hindu speaking community, you will be learning Malay, English and Tamil / Hindu (depending which primary school you grew up in).

If you live among the locals of your same community, especially the Chinese communities, you will pretty much pick up a lot of local dialects depending on which district and culture you are in. If you are in where the tiny little home town that I grew up with, Cantonese would be one of the main communication dialect; but if you are like my friends who stayed in South of Peninsular Malaysia, Hokkien dialect could be one of their communication dialect; and if you are from the East coast of Peninsular, then Jawi (Arabic alphabets) would be one of your strong points and you would probably speak very different Malay dialect all together from the West coast.

Just like the States has different slang in different districts and states.

So an a-typical Malaysian would have at least 3 languages + 1 dialect in their sleeves, if they command it well enough.

So why am I bringing up this?

Recently during Christmas the news of controversial clash of personal interests between the government’s (common core) education system and the diverse communities of different dialect on what students should be studying in their language, and Jawi (the Arabic alphabet) was being introduced as part of the curriculum.

As I was searching through the internet apparently this argument has been as far out as August 2019.

The most obvious reason of the clash and disagreement in opinion is: there has been another clash of interest: religious freedom in the land of Malaysia.

Those who has been reading the world news outside Malaysia about Malaysia’s drama series on religious freedom and racial dispute would have realized that the hidden agenda of the politicians including the current leader of Malaysia.

And most of them, because they can afford to walk away and leave the country all together, voiced out their opinions and packed their bags along with their family members, leaving their wrath of opinion linger in the fearful hearts of those who are left behind, unable to defend their own voices, and poisoned with disappointments and grudges.

I speak of it because my own senior relatives (and parents) have been watching so closely to the news that they are so engrossed with the leaders’ point of view that they overlooked one crucial thing that most wise gurus and success leaders speak of:

In Crisis, there is Opportunity

Now I am not talking of opportunists who are hustlers that will milk every single profit out of misery of others; on the other hand, I remembered one of Jack Ma’s interview, I think in the US when he was asked why Alibaba and Aliexpress could be one of the top logistic services in the world and online store, he spoke of something (paraphrased by my memory) that I caught his intention.

“We just ride on the wave of change, and we make sure are ahead of it.”

Something like that.

And in this adversity of uncertainties of the current Malaysian Education Drama...

I will like to implore to my fellow Malaysians who are still stuck in this land we call home and did not have the privilege to flee to other “land of the free / opportunity” countries, learn from what Jack Ma, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world leading in Commerce.

Ride on the wave of change, and make sure we are ahead of it; of course, without compromising your own core values

Because I am pretty sure Jack Ma stayed on his roots of culture and knowledge.

In short, for the Chinese speaking politicians / elders who have been spewing fear and poison to the public through all social media means, do not be afraid that a new language will change your children into turning away their culture to a religion you seemed to be fearful of; instead be ahead of their game.

I still vividly remembered when I was visiting the United Nations in Vienna, that when people around me in my tour visit realized which country I was from and the “fear” of our diversity, I know that Malaysians when we look beyond fear and see our true potential, especially in the area of communication, we are really unstoppable.

This actually applies to every single person regardless of nationality. The limit is in our heads, and only we can break that limit, and for me, I have my BIG DADDY to help me realise that.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
~ 2 Timothy 1:7

I am not sure about you, but maybe because I have this promises of God in my heart, I am learning to see ahead of adversities and learn to ride ahead of them.

So happy 2020 Malaysia

PS: Sorry I took the opportunity to use Actifit to post this super long winded “open letter” because I am too lazy to write multiple posts for different content. At the end, Sunday was fantastic I literally could still burn enough calories and yet able to wake up to hit the gym on Monday.
