I have been to so many new places lately! I love to share and be shared with! I have always and forever liked to see different fruits and vegetables or products that are being sold. Perhaps I cannot get them here. So, yes! I would love to see yours! Don't forget to take photos wherever you happen to be shopping - whether it be the grocery store, the local marketplace or even an art gallery. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Be different if you wish! It does not have to be a traditional market! We will love it! I promise you! Today is @MarketFriday and today I would love to show you why I love the island of Bonaire! It is easily a direct flight from Washington, DC south to the South American borders. Bonaire is a world-famous site that offers some of the best diving in the Caribbean. Bonaire is far enough south (about 50 miles north of Venezuela) that it is below the track of Caribbean hurricanes. What many people may not think about is that hurricanes create a lot of sediment off the ocean floor decreasing underwater visibility and often damaging coral reefs. The reefs and water clarity are exceptional in part because the Dutch had the foresight to established the Bonaire National Marine Park in 1979… which has one of the world's most active management of its marine resources. To my knowledge, it is the oldest Marine Park anywhere.

It is so nice to be able to rent an apartment close enough to walk to the dive shops. After all, if you are coming to Bonaire, you are coming to dive, It isn't a typical Caribbean-type island, although the nature lover in you will want to self tour the place.

Answer: All of them

Ocean currents approach the island from the east, so the entire western side has calm, clear water and a reef that runs the entire length of the west coast, and it is only a short swim from shore. While most dive locations are reached by boat and sometimes shore diving (where you walk into the water from the beach), Bonaire’s famous for its 60-official walk-off dive sites on the west coast (and another three on the southeast coast). At Bonaire, when you get a package deal from the dive shop, it usually includes a vehicle which is mostly pick-up trucks. If yours is not included in your arrangement, many dive sites will rent one to you. Then you are able to drive to the sight of your choice, park, swim, and scuba!

But as a “tourist,” how do you find these dive sites? Easy!! They have a map that shows the name and number of the dive site…they are extremely easy to find! Roads are few on the island. Getting lost is almost impossible. Back to the dive sites! #1 site is the furthest north and # 61 is the furthest south - although 61 catches some of the open ocean and while it is much better than 62 and 63, is not as good as the other 60!). Did you get all that??

The Queen’s Highway follows the beach along the west and while the map tells basically where your desired dive spot is, when you get close enough, you look for the pull-off’s which lead to parking lots on their shore. Each dive site has two white stones, one at either side of the pull-off. One of the stones will have the dive site’s name painted on it and the other will have the number of the dive site. If you ever have the opportunity to dive Bonaire, “just do it”!!!

The dive shops there are so easy to work with. You bring back two empty tanks, get two full ones. Easy as a Sunday morning. Oh, yes! I wish diving everywhere was this easy. It is a remarkable little island just a wink away from Venezuela. The people were amazingly friendly and so very helpful. There is a town of sorts, but, nothing really to buy, although I am sure that will all change as the tourist trade ramps up. I am going back for a few days in two weeks. Perhaps I will get some fresh pictures, you just never know. I must say that expenses were minimal or a trip like this and I know this is another very unusual #MarketFriday, but, isn't that point? Seeing what your money will buy in different places. I even hired a driver on one trip which only cost $25.00 for the whole day, gas included. Oh, yes!

Such a pretty place! I love anyplace with a brightly painted building like the yellow one in the pictures. Where I live every building is brick or white...so boring! Very cool underwater shots. Little bitty fish are so much fun to see when you're in the ocean. Looks like you had a great adventure. Happy travels!

This trip is all about the adventures!! I'll be in Columbia for a few days and am looking forward to the architecture. And the culture. Love the culture.

I post and takes less pictures when away, thinking I would rather live in the moment than miss anything, but occassionally, I remember to.

Wooooow! It is a very pretty place to dive. There are also very beautiful diving spots here in the Philippines.

The beauty of the deep is really breathtaking. I haven't experienced diving before, only snorkeling, but even with that I am deeply in awe with the wonders of the deep!!! 😍

Thank you so much for such a sweet reply. I too am amazed by life down under. I have heard that the Philippines has beautiful diving. That's not very hard to believe. Given where it's located but It makes me just a little bit envious because I have to actually get on a plane. To get somewhere like that.

I am amazed at how well everything is organized on the island. I really like his name, Bonaire! It makes me think of a place where it is pleasant to live. I'm convinced you feel like ... fish in the water!

I also love the name Bonaire and it sounds just like the perfect little Island. It's not very crowded there and is mostly uninhabited with National Seashore and of course Beach because it's an island. The entire island is made up of coral. That's how it was formed Which makes for a very interesting landscape.

This was the very first place I saw a pack of flamingos flying in the wild. I've never seen that site and it was an amazing sight. This is the only place I've ever seen them. Flying dozens and dozens at a Time, because they nest there.

I think comparing it to a fish's kind of cool and can't say that you're wrong, but it's just different. I think that you would like it. Have you ever considered it? It's a whole different world under there. Well as you can tell, I am away. Once again and I just want to let you know. How much it means to you that you support the market Friday challenge. I am absolutely sure I would like the island, especially since you mentioned corals and flamingos! Thank you for showing me and telling me that there is such a place on earth.
I will never go there, the distances I take into account are much smaller.
Last week I didn't post to #marketfriday, I wasn't inspired enough. I did not want to participate with something that was not done with all my heart.

I don't dive but I like snorkeling, as long as the water does not get too deep, but I love underwater photos like yours, Denise 😊

Although I might never visit Bonaire it was a lot of information and very interesting to read 👍

Thank you for such a kind comment. Bonaire is a tiny little island, being only 24 miles long and 3 to 7 miles across, depending where you are. It sits 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela.

It doesn't have much of a nightlife, but with diving like that, who needs one?

What a breathtaking place with a lot of character. I’ve never attempted diving myself. Those scuba diving spots are epic and seem like they be worth any fears someone would have about in doing so.

Bonaire is a popular diving spot, without being overcrowded. It has incedible coral reefs, as a matter of fact, the entire island is made up of coral.

It was here that I saw my first flamingo colony flying overhead to their nesting place, here on the island. What a sight! I was so excited as it was a foreign sight to me.

All in all, it is a wonderful trip!

Wow, you scuba dive too? You are full of surprises! I got certified in 1978, PADI and NAUI. I love it! I haven't been to Bonaire, but it looks and sounds like it's got some great dive sites.

Bonaire is a divers paradise! They make it so easy to got a beach shack, tanks and a car. Boom. One stop shopping.

It is pretty exciting, life down under and when a lot of the family goes, even more exciting. More pictures? :) Seriously?

Bonaire is a pretty cool little island, right off the coast of Venezuela. The entire island is made up of coral, which is unusual and makes for interesting terrain.

You may never get there, but I am envious of some of the cool places you have been to!

I havent snorkelled for years, did it when I was younger and when I stopped over in Bali, the water there we so clean and clear was such fun

I always wanted to do scuba diving but I can't swim, so instruction didn't work for me. I tried snorkeling but it was a rough experience. I just love those pictures and thanks for sharing your words with us. The underwater world is amazing, isn't it?

The underwater world is amazing! You actually don't need to swim to dive because you always have flotation devices on. Handicapped people dive.

I would feel better knowing how to swim, but if you really want to, its possible. Some people sink like rocks when learning to swim.

Even so, I am glad you can enjoy its beaty from afar!

Oh, yes! The trick question was not really tricky because I had to use to pay for which I admitted right up front. . For some reason my computer would not hook up here in South America But it's not South America itself, but my computer I think because it did this last time I was on vacation. . I tend to forget that I don't really many places with the laptop. Because Really? There is no reason. However, I do like the post from the laptop and hate doing it on the phone. Beautiful Pictures. I didn't realize you are a diver, too! I've never been diving there, but I did go a few place in the Caribbean ~ Punta Cana Dominican Republic (no good) and near Cancun, Mexico in a cenote (amazing).

Yes! Cacun, Cozumel and the like have amazing divingas does Bonaire. Nobody like Dominican Republic, although many give it a try.

They have a swwet set uo in Bonaire. Fly in and they provide hotel rooms on the dock, truck for your stay and endless tanks, where you trade in one empty or two and get back full ones. Best way to go!

I loved all of the beautiful underwear pictures. I have never been diving before...I am too afraid of the unknowns I may encounter. I can imagine how even more beautiful it looked in person. I’m glad I get to see places like this through your eyes, I really appreciate posts like these.

It's just a whole beautiful different world under there so colorful and lively i have always love the idea of scuba diving but just never got around to it snorkeling is as far as i have gone with underwater and there are so many beautiful waters to dive into over here in Thailand , well we just can't do everything i suppose.
