Market Friday: rushing to the bakery
This is my #marketfriday post, a popular tag hosted by our kind and generous @dswigle. This week has been a very busy week with lots of emotional ups and downs as the crypto world seemed to be in turmoil with Bitcoin dipping to under 50K while ETH went up to all time high and got smacked down. Luckily I had too many things to keep me busy so I just had to ride the waves and use my sixth sense to steer me through this confusing time. The morning started off with bright strong sunshine so I knew it’s going to very very hot. I had to rush out to collect my bakery at the oldest bakery shop in New Road, near Robinson Mall in Bangrak district. I had to take the local minibus which took about forty minutes to arrive at the nearest stop so I could walk another five minutes to reach the bakery shop.
I took photos from the minibus whose driver seem to think he was riding in a horse race. It has been quite a bumpy ride. The roads were strangely empty of the usual busy traffic. The spread of cases of coronavirus and the official daily news Including the mainstream media have been fueling a sense of fear and panic among people. It was the first time I saw people wearing two masks at the same time. They had no idea that it would be very detrimental for the health in the long run. The increase acidity in the blood would increase the chance of encouraging the spread of cancer cells. There would also be some neurological problems for some people. Most Thai people couldn’t use English as a second language and out education system has been designed to make people lacking critical thinking. The economy would be badly affected by this widespread self-imposed lockdown. I saw the first outcry from the small and medium enterprise group for governmental assistance. I could see small or ordinary people trying their best to get the system floating above the water.
Many street food stalls have been in operation making daily life possible for other hard working people. I do admire their patience and perseverance amidst frightening uncertainty of the future.
The red minibus bounced along the narrow lanes which ran parallel to the main road but it had it turned into the busy Sathorn road. This road is flanked by skyscrapers, condominiums, foreign financial banks and companies. I did manage to take some photos of the preserver old neocolonial building and the entrance of the embassy of the Vatican. There are several foreign embassies along both sides of Sathorn road.
The bus stopped in a narrow lane leading towards Sathorn Pier. I had to get off at this stop and walked about five minutes to reach the Panlee bakery. The sunshine was gloriously hot which meant that all kinds of coronavirus would be vaporised by the strong UVC ray. I made certain that I would get my dairy dose of vitamin D from my trip. The local street food looked so good and reasonably priced that I almost stopped for some quick lunch. But there were queues waiting for taking home at all the famous eateries. The bright sunlight made take photos rather difficult as I could not adjust the aperture of my iPhone. At least the sky was clear blue and the air was very warm.
I arrived at the bakery and asked about my order; I did phone the shop up to place my order earlier. It’s advisable to place an order by phone as most of the delicious items get sold out very fast. This bakery was a recently discovery for me at the beginning of this year when an old senior friend came along for a walking tour with me. The modernised shop did not convey anything special about this place. Only when I tasted some cakes and bakery, did I realise that this shop is really quite good. Furthermore, the size of each item is not too small or too big; the prices are much cheaper than most modern bakeries. I went to collect my box of sorted buns for my journey to the north. The whole box would last me a few days.
The owner of the bakery is in her late eighties; this business has been in her family for almost a hundred years. Her ancestors were making their living after New Road was opened for public transportation. There is also a coffee shop with seating area on the upper floor of this bakery. I would have loved to try their coffee one day when I had more leisure time.
On the way back to the bus stop, I was so hungry that I had to stop for a quick vegetarian snack. It’s called Chinese steamed noodles which is topped up with three kinds of mushrooms, steamed diced tofu and bean sprouts in soya sauce. The portion was rather small for the price and there should be more mushrooms. However this was enough to get me back home for my own snack. I was glad I got all the stuffed buns for my weekend.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Stay strong and cheerful.

And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Thank you very much for your cool map.
The minibus is such a great way to get around, especially to cover the smaller places outside of the city. The only thing I worry about is how close one must sit on a small bus with many people. I hope it wasn't crowded.
Surprisingly, downtown looks very quiet. I expected crowds of people. Are your numbers going up there? I have been double masking for a while, mostly because people have become lazy about taking care. It makes for more to spread. :(
I must ask, what is the Embassy of the Holy See? I was intrigued by that.
The vendors that have been selling food and necessities since the beginning of the pandemic, I have always felt sorry for. There is no choice for them, no matter how sick they might get. They would be penniless without going to their space. You have got to feel for them. No choice.
The Blue Elephant has such a beautiful Architectural feel to it. So much about Bangkok is beautiful and interesting, and always rich with history. I always appreciate you taking us with you. I hope you got enough Vitamin D to last you. The blue and gold lamp post is pure beauty. I am so happy that the owner of the bakery had found a way to stay open. Those buns look so delicious! What is inside them or is it bread? Are you able to keep them fresh or do they stay fresh for a bit. I found some bread stay better than others. I look at the electrical/telephone wires above your head. I wonder if they cause many fires or outages? It seems like a conglomerate up there, yet, there seems to be some semblance of order. I can never thank you enough for the amazing posts you put together!
#MarketFriday has survived the pandemic and has been presented in so many unusual ways, along with more common ones. This, of course, adds more charm to the mixing bowl. The challenge points out our differences, but, then, it also shows many things our cultures share. When the day is done, it shows off how human we all are and how we basically all care about our families and others. We embrace each other as humans.
I love the experience of it all. I appreciate the love and support given to #MarketFriday! Thank you! Truly! Your participation adds a piece of your world, and I have to say, people are interested in is seeing it. This entire challenge has opened up the world to me and so many others. Thank you again for being a part of all this! I am so happy to see you here! I hope you have a fabulous day! Hive on!!

That’s the Embassy of the Vatican! The Pope is the head of the Vatican so I suppose you could make an appointment to see the Pope in Rome!lol
We are quite lucky to have a very hot summer with strong sunshine. The coronavirus would be killed by strong UVC. The area I travelled around is really very low risk. I would avoid going to areas of high risk. I think the number of cases is not accurate as there seems to be a hidden agenda with regards to exploiting government’s budget. There’s a collusion between some dictors and businessmen on masks and experimental vaccine.
By taking proper vitamin to boost my immune system so I would be quite safe. I also take the Thai herbal medicine to get rid of the virus. Almost 400 people infected with coronavirus were cured within five days at the hospital. Unfortunately, the group of doctors have continued to ignore this cheap local herb. This Thai medicine has been completely sold out last week. So, there’s still a thick connection between some government staff, politicians and drug companies.

You might find this link interesting! Using ‘COVID truth’ as search terms on this platform will give more information. People ought to know the truth about the coronavirus.
Wearing a mask could help to reduce the virus load in case there’s someone sneezing or coughing close by. Otherwise masks could not filter out the virus as it is only 0.1 micron. Most masks only filter 0.5 micron specimens. There’s a social engineering going on for the Great Reset of the whole financial market and the world by the World Economic Forum.
I am afraid it’s a bit too late to rescue many people’s lives. But the truth could save more lives in the near future. People should be given tests for their levels of D3, C and Zinc. It’s much cheaper and more effective to give people vitamins than to give experimental vaccine.
Take care.
I didn't realize that is what it is called! I know where the Embassy for the Vatican is here in the Washington, DC area, it is on Massachusetts Avenue, and, nicknamed Embassy Row as there are many Embassys' on this very long street.
I looked it up and here is what their site said: The Apostolic Nunciature to the United States is the diplomatic mission of the Holy See to the United States. So thank you for educating me. :)
I know that the masks are not great. :(
What is the name of this herbal medicine? I actually had my levels checked four months ago and takd supplemental vitamin D3 and C ... my levels were fine, but, the supplement ensure that I keep my levels up. For zinc, mine is good and I maintain
Meat. Meat is an excellent source of zinc
Shellfish. Shellfish are healthy, low-calorie sources of zinc. ...
Legumes. Legumes like chickpeas, lentils, and beans all contain substantial amounts of zinc. ...
Seeds. ...
Nuts. ...
Dairy. ...
Eggs. ...
Whole Grains.
I want to thank you for your knowledge and for sharing it, for all the world to see.
Thanks so much for your kind appreciation. I am afraid most people would not be able to face half of the truth of what’s happening in the world. But those in control always tell us in advance about their plans. We just could not see the warnings readily as they are camouflaged in the mass media.
Have a nice day.
