Change 4 Steem!

avatar

I’m a fairly disorganized human being. It’s definitely something I’ve tried to remedy through the years with very little success. I’m not messy or a slob...just disorganized and a bit chaotic. A perfect example is I throw my loose change in several places. In my car compartments, my dresser, a change jug, and anywhere else I can think of. I even found a pile of change near my computer downstairs. I dunno...

Either way, a few times a year I will wrap all that delicious spare change that was doing me no good and cash it in. Then I’d treat the family to a nice dinner, but that piece of comic art I’ve been eying up, pay off some credit cards, go buy the pups some new toys, or as I have been doing for the past year and a half...purchase some Steem to power up my account. This is practically found moolah, so it’s not like I’ll be missing it. It’s the perfect opportunity to grow my account little by little without feeling that punch of seeing my account balance dwindle. I do that as well because I’m stupid but that’s a whole other write up.

So this morning after feeding my pups, cleaning out my car, and throwing in some laundry...I searched high and lo in all my stash spots to round up that metallic goodness. Here is what I came up with.

Doesn’t look like much but after wrapping this shit fir like an hour, it came out to $119.50! There is $106.50 wrapped and I had 13 Dollar coins as well that I’m going to cash in. Not too shabby for piles of coins I wasn’t tracking or utilizing.

There were actually a bunch of left over pennies but I ran out of penny sleeves. There were also some other random coins that wouldn’t fit into a wrapper so that pile will wait for the next go around.

Going through the quarters, I also found one from 1958. I believe any quarters before 1964 had 90% silver. So I’m going to try to keep an eye out for these going forward so I can stockpile them. Maybe in a few years I’ll have a handful of em! I believe I read that the silver in these is currently worth a few bucks each. Any of my Steem Silver friends want to confirm or correct my stupid assumption?

Anyway, I have to go to the bank, deposit it, purchase Bitcoin, and then the Steem. Depending on when I purchase it, this should get me around 750 Steem give or take a bit on either side. Once again...all with coins that were just sitting and wasting away. So think about that my friends. Most of us have little piles or stashed in our car or a jug. Cash that shit in and Power up your account a bit. If you do believe in this place, there’s no better time than now! We need investors too here. I know in a perfect world we all want to just earn our Steem but I personally feel I take this place a bit more seriously as I have funds invested and I want them to go to work for me. What better way than through the Steem blockchain.

Something to think on...

You are right about the stuff before 1964 being 90%. I don’t collect it but plenty in the crew do who would be able to tell you the value. Let me tag a couple folks and see if anyone bites.

Sweet! Thanks a ton. Crazy that I only found one out of this batch. Guessing these get gobbled up quickly in circulation.

Here you go @blewitt. This site is for the 90% prices http://www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.html and for nicer grade coins you can look here https://www.pcgs.com/prices. And yes 1964 and before are 90%, just not nickels. But you should save all your nickels, they usually cost more to produce than they are worth in melt.

Sweet!!! Appreciate the link. Save em before 1964 you are saying. Not just any nickel? Lol

I don't get how you have so much change laying around. Do you just wear magnets around your penis and walk around the shop taking change from peoples pockets? Perhaps you offer sensual shoulder massages to people with the offer of only stopping for 50 cents? I genuinely need to know.

Also, lol. Your spare change is worth about as much as my entire account right now.

I don’t wear magnets around my penis. I surgically installed a magnet rod inside my junk to collect delicious pennies.

Lololol. Go raid your jug!!!

Neither I nor my fiancee really use cash, so it takes a year for us probably just to have $4 or $5 in change laying around. I guess instead I'll just make up a sign that says "Will twist nips for change. God Bless" and go stand by the side of the road or something.

God damn, that's a huge amount of coins, $119, how much time did it take you to get all that? I once tried to put all the change I got when I went out at night partying in a piggybank, after 1 whole year it came out as $500, I really don't want to know how much I blew in alcohol... Wish I was that age again and save it all to put into Bitcoin xD

It was 4 months since the last time I did this so about that long.

Oh I think of all the funds I blew on booze or snacks. It makes me cry.

Yup, any US halves, quarters and dimes 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
You are absolutely right! For some reason and without intention, coins would accumulate around my house and car. I wised up and started putting them in a plastic jug and exchange them for fiat once the jug is full. But have you read the theory of @pocketechange that he talks about in his blog? Well, because he is so passionate about his theory, I decided to keep a jug full of circulating clad quarters, dimes and nickels.

Dimes as well?!? Shit. I wasn’t paying attention to those. I will going forward though. I haven’t but I’ll totally check it out.

Right?!? Great idea!!! I’ll start the movement and tag you in it. Maybe a mention would help. If random folks would take their change jug or spare car change and chuck it into Steem, that would be awesome. A few bucks here and a few bucks there could be a nice little push to see folks grow their account.

Good stuff - I will be featuring this in today's Steem News post.

I wonder if we could get Steem branded piggy banks?

SteemPigs are Go... (that's sound a bit like an comic strip 😊)

I bought a 22 of heinken at the liquor store across the street in change the other day. I found a bag of quarters we had when we used to have to pay to do laundry. It felt weird.
