Hi Guys!, here is my entry for the Triple AAA contest FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION (#01): "Favorite Directors" Sponsor by @wiseagent and the TripleA team; You guys should check it out and participate

Director of week #3: Denis Villeneuve

Denis Villeneuve is one of the most creative directors in Hollywood today because he always knows how to give his films a different artistic twist to make them stand out from generic productions, what I mean is that this director is able to take not so amazing plots and turn them into authentic and visually wonderful films. That's why today I've chosen him as my third choice for the contest of favorite directors, as he is undoubtedly a director who has gradually won my admiration through really fascinating films.

Arrival is one of the most surprising films I have ever seen because it introduces a premise from which we can expect something generic and habitual but where the director ends up giving it a tremendous twist through a cinematography that I would dare to say is totally perfect. The plot of this film puts us in the center of the first extraterrestrial contact where a group of strange ships has landed on different points of the planet, visually fascinating ships that do not do anything, that has only landed in certain points of the Earth simply waiting for humans to take the next step, and so on. After all the excitement that the arrival of these ships causes worldwide, different governmental organizations decide to gather different groups of experts to contact the ships and find out what the purpose of this alien visit is. Why the humans? Why now? What are they looking for?

With the passing of minutes and through some visually engaging scenes where we are immersed in an atmosphere of constant dramatic suspense to know what is really going on and to find out like the characters in the film the purpose of this alien visit, we will see how on the American side a group of scientists and linguistics experts go inside one of the ships to try to create some kind of communication that allows them to find out more about the aliens, only to realize that these visitors communicate through a kind of graphic language that they will have to decipher to understand more about these visitors. From here the film enters a kind of tone of race where we will see multiple visits and meetings between scientists and aliens to try to create a way to decipher their language and thus be able to communicate, the plot will take us gradually down a path where we will progressively discover why it is important to decipher this language so peculiar.

The most impressive part of this film is undoubtedly the visual and technical atmosphere that Denis Villeneuve created around a different extraterrestrial visit plot, a plot that develops with several temporary jumps delicately placed so that at times we do not understand what happens but that in the end give an incredible meaning to the whole story. Yes, at times the film will seem to have deviated to scenes that seem not to belong to the chronology we are seeing but the truth is that they are part of a hidden subplot that in the end will leave us with our mouths open by the incredible way that this director used to introduce something so unexpected.

This is a visually perfect film, the whole tone of the film is built to give that feeling of apocalypse where we feel that at any time something could go wrong and lead the film down an unexpected path. As the minutes go by we feel more and more trapped and interested in knowing more, in discovering what this visit is about and above all in knowing the importance of deciphering this mysterious language. On a technical level, I felt extremely pleased, to see how Denis Villeneuve was able to combine visual effects with transitions and camera plays with a soundtrack simply amazing because he manages to transform this film into a wonderful representation, where everything seems to be orchestrated in a wonderful way to take us to a splendid end.

At the end of the film I felt happy, surprised and full of emotion, the whole film manages to maintain a very high note at a plot and visual level, there is not a single moment where the film has failed at a technical level, always maintains the emotion and above all the suspense in a plot that is built to entertain and to give us different dynamic turns that are an absolute delight. Without a doubt, this is one of the most creative films I have ever seen, a film that I didn't expect and that manage to show me that besides a good plot, the direction is also a super important factor for a film to stand out and carve out a successful path.

My Score: 8,3/10
