New York City. Melvin Udall, a cranky, bigoted, obsessive-compulsive writer, finds his life turned upside down when neighboring gay artist Simon is hospitalized and his dog is entrusted to Melvin. In addition, Carol, the only waitress who will tolerate him, must leave work to care for her sick son, making it impossible for Melvin to eat breakfast.

As Good as it Gets I think is Jack Nicholson's best movie. In the end it is a sappy romance but it is hysterical. It was released in 1997 and features Jack Nicholson, Greg Kinnear, Helen Hunt, and Cuban Gooding Jr.

Melvin (Jack Nicholson) is a rich eccentric asshole with a severe case of OCD. His life is held hostage by his obsessive-compulsive outbursts. He lives his life alone and isolated from most human interactions.

One thing I really love is good banter, and this movie has it in spades. Jack Nicholson verbally rips into anyone who crosses his path, and he is damn good at it too.

Melvin hasn't cared for anything for a very long time. This all changes when his neighbor is put into the hospital and he has to watch his dog. No one has stepped foot in Melvin's apartment and now he has a dog walking around his pristine living space.

Jack, Greg, and Cuban Gooding really knock this one out of the park. Helen Hunt wasn't bad but these three have hysterical interactions that make this movie a riot.

I am generally not a big fan of older movies, but As Good as it Gets is amazing. I can see Jack Nicholson putting a bit of the Joker character in Melvin.
