In 2000 Goldstein arranged eight songs by singer Willie Nelson and jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman that appeared in the adventure drama movie Space Cowboys and in 2001 launched Time Remembered and Piano Music of Paul Ben-Haim. In 2002 he collaborated in Viva Caruso by post-bop saxophonist Joe Lovano and played accordion in contemporary classical music composer Elliot Goldenthal’s soundtracks for Frida and Across the Universe in 2007. In 2003 he produced Wide Angles by saxophonist Michael Brecker, which won the Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album in 2004.

Also in 2003 Goldstein wrote the orchestration and played piano and accordion on the soundtrack for the biographical musical film of Broadway composer Cole Porter De-Lovely by Irwin Winkler. In 2006 he recorded with the deluxe line-up of saxophonist Chris Potter, trumpeter Michael Brecker, vibraphonist Mike Maineri, electric bassist Richard Bona and the Zebra Coast String Trio post-bop Under Rousseau’s Moon; and Disney Meets Jazz: Tribute to Wall Disney aside. In 2007 he again produced an album for Brecker, Pilgrimage, which won the Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Instrumental Album and Best Improvised Jazz Solo. In addition he joined Italian saxophonist Pietro Tonolo, electric bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Paul Motian to publish The Music of Elton John.

In 2008 he participated in Disney Adventures in Jazz with other musicians and in 2013 he met again in duo with jazz guitarist Pat Martino in We Are Together Again as a continuation of We’ll Be Together Again which they recorded in 1976. As an educator Goldstein was Director of Music at the Mead School for Human Development from 1976 to 1978, jazz program Adjunct Professor at the New School for Social Research from 1983 to 1990 and Adjunct Professor at the Steinhart School of New York University since 2003 until today, and has given workshops at The Paris Conservatory, Lausanne (Switzerland) and the University of Central Oklahoma.
