GIANT GREEN TOMATOE!!

avatar

Hey everyone, sadly these pics don't give anywhere near the idea as to how big this tomatoe is. Tomato Tomatoe? I put my hand next to it with the thought of giving a scale of size, however I did not take into account camera angle. What it boils down to basically is it is the size of my hand and it has still to date not yet ripened yet.

I purchased these and all my other heirloom seeds on www.livingseeds.co.za do check them out, the most incredible heirloom seeds from all over the world. Not sure which species it is, but I tell you what it should be called a JOLLY GREAT GIANT as that truly is what it is!

Tomatoes need to be supported, so generally a 'stake' in the ground to tie them up as not to have the whole plant fall over. What I do is string the branches up to the above Tree's which works rather well too!

Here we have a more 'normal' tomato, problem when I purchased these I decided to plant them all together so the names at this point allude me, luckily they are all growing well in harmony and they promise to be incredibly tasty and nutritious!

I recently inspected and saw a hole around 4mm in diameter in a few of these unripened tomatoes' bugs that eat raw tomatoes? Anyone?

Nature the incredible, I trust you have an amazing week.

Bugs don't usually wait until they're ripe. I often find grubs in them, so I'm guessing something likes to lay it's egg in them. I think some of mine were from sheild bugs.

I hope you get to have your big one before the birds. They are crafty at getting to them just as they start to ripen.

Sigh we have such a bird issue here, the peaches have been obliterated and pretty much everything else in this garden including the spinach and kale? Never in my life did I think they would eat those even? Nice seeing you again thanks for popping in. Cheer$;)

Oh yes, the kale and spinach. I thought we had some really big bugs until I spotted a dove walking through having mouthfuls as he went!
