I Love My Serger Sewing Machine for Alterations

Today is one of my good friend's birthday. We are going to a bistro that also has Karaoke to celebrate tonight. I was looking through my closet for something to wear and decided to wear this black jumpsuit that I haven't worn in years. Needless to say, it was too big for me now that I have lost weight.

I decided to alter it so that I could wear it this evening because with the right accessories, it can be dressed up or dressed down. I had some white thread in my serger which uses 4 spools. I always keep either white or black thread in it so that I don't have to change the color too often. Re-threading a serger can be a pain in the neck for me. I love how quickly it sews and that the edges of the fabric are also over-locked.

Unlike my regular sewing machine, I can go really fast and the machine cuts as it sews. I learned a trick to change out the thread fairly easily. I cut the white thread, remove it from the spool and then tie a small knot with the new black thread that I replace on the spool. If I pull white thread through the machine slowly and carefully, then the small knot will even go through the eye of the needle.

After that, it's just a matter of adjusting the tension for the fabric that I am going to sew. My jumpsuit is made out of a black jersey fabric that has some stretch to it. It actually took longer for me to change the thread and adjust the tension in the machine than it did for me to alter the jumpsuit.

I don't know what I used to do when I sewed on a regular basis without my serger. It has definitely been worth the investment. My jumpsuit is altered and I can wear it as soon as it is washed and dried.

Have a great evening!

That jumpsuit looks very elegant, hope you enjoyed the celebration:)
I giggled when I read the trick about threading the machine - even the needle. Very clever!
