Crochet Art in Harlem

Crochet Art in Harlem

This is kind of, sort of a post for NeedleworkMonday hosted by @crosheille

Why Kind of, sort off?i

Well I am sure the idea behind this tag is for people to post needlework that they have done, but this was some crochet art I came across when walking through Harlem one morning so decided it may be my one chance to enter this tag/challenge

Its quite a big piece of crocheted art on the fence around a park

The funny thing is I saw this mentioned on the NYC arts in the park website and decided to go check it out but I for some reason thought it was at a totally different location and walked about 20 blocks from the train station to where I thought it was and could not find it, when I checked again I realized it was only about 3 blocks from the train station so I went and got these shots the next day.

This art work is by Naomi Lawrence, and is entitled La Flor De Mi Madreand and the park is called Eugene McCabe Field,

First I shared some shots showing some of the detail or this needlework art, now let me show you the full piece

Now this last shot is on another corner of the fence in the same area and is not needlework but I thought I would include it with this post, its a bit hard to read from this shot but it says Eat Me which is the title of the piece and is by Capucine Bourcart,
It is made up of photo-printed aluminum square tiles and is to inspire people to make healthy food choices

And that’s all folks

It is so lovely to be able to take a stroll and see such wonderful colours! It must have taken them some time to crochet such big pieces. Thank you for sharing this with us @tattoodjay! Welcome to #NeedleWorkMonday!!

The crocheted flowers are beautiful. The artist found a creative way to make a fence her canvas.

Good exercise and an unusual tag for you that I found unusually interesting. Was the crochet work done on and through the wire or hung on the wire fence?

I took a close look at it it looked like the art was crocheted directly onto the fence, I could not find out how long it took, but I imagine it was a big task

Oh absolutely this qualifies as a #NeedleWorkMonday post! 😃. As long as it’s needlework related, it doesn’t have to be your own works! I appreciate seeing beautiful bright colored art like this! These are such beautiful pieces and I know it was time consuming. This is partly why I appreciate this form of art so much!

Thank you for taking the time to capture these images and sharing them with the community today! We welcome your lovely photos of needlework anytime ;D

That is pretty cool. I remember you trying to find this. It is really amazing what they have been able to do with just a fence, some imagination, and some skill.

I have seen some crocheted/knitted pieces on things in public before, but this is the first time I have seen them put on a chain link fence.

I have seen online some yarm bombing on things but I think this is the first I ever saw on a fence as well :)

Ohh yes that area is plain and somewhat run down in places so this really brightens up the area
