As Resilient As The Palm Tree

The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. - Psalm 92:12

The Bible likens the believer to the palm tree that flourishes in all seasons. Do you know that palm trees are extraordinarily resilient? This is because they spend so much time growing their roots downward, invariably building a very solid foundation for the tree. Like the palm tree, a believer ought to build a solid foundation for the Christian faith by spending time in communion with God through His words in the scriptures and in the place of prayer. Only when the foundation is solid, can one remain faithful in times of trouble. Like the palm trees, you should bend in a storm but not break. In fact, the palm tree usually becomes stronger at the pressure point where it bent the most. In the same vein, we ought to learn from our life's troubles, hurdles, and problems and become stronger and better as a result.

As simple and as unassuming as the palm tree looks, there are so many amazing things about the palm tree. They are not ordinary trees at all. I say this because when the wood is pressed, it produces oils that are used to make different consumables like soap, soft drinks, syrups, and preservatives. The fibers of the palm tree's wood are fantastic for woven products like parquet flooring, hammocks, and hats while the tree's wood is used to construct wicker furniture. Its wood doesn't burn like normal wood. It would take ages and ages before the wood from a palm tree catches fire but when it does, oh boy! This is why you'll rarely see anyone cutting down the palm tree for such a purpose. However, the factories that produce and refine the products mentioned above use palm tree wood chips as fuel! That's what a true Christian should be; simple yet amazing, different, unique and a contributor of value on all fronts i.e. as an employer or an employee, a friend, a father, a child, a confidant, an adviser and so on and so forth.

Do you know that palm trees are also associated with celebration and victory especially among the Romans? Palm fronds are woven into crowns or garlands or waved in the air based on the celebration. In the same vein, as a Christian, you should be a difference-maker, an encourager, a source of inspiration, and a source of joy to people around you. Your character must always be stronger than your circumstances. If you faint in the time of adversity it means your strength is little; don't let this be your testimony. Build your faith by spending quality time reading or listening to God's words and bonding with Him in the secret place. When you do this enough, it would refine your character, bringing out the best of you and making you strong and resilient like the palm tree.

Cheers and thanks for reading!
