Feelings and emotions overpower the rational part of our brain.

It is well known that emotions and logic occupy different regions of our brain, and that if we use our emotions or logic exclusively to guide our lives, we may miss out on things or pay a big price.

The current situation with COVID-19 is causing millions of people, some of whom employ people, to act irrationally. Investors have lost their mind and are buying bankrupt companies and overvalued stock in the fear of missing out (FOMO). Employees are making the decision to take a large unemployment $600 bonus as the deadline for this $600 looms and jobs are disappearing.

The stock market and irrational decisions on behalf of the people and policy makers are based on emotional response.

The next time you feel FOMO, take a step back and use your rational brain to evaluate the situation without overpowering emotion. FOMO will make you buy an extremely overpriced stock or make a decision about your work or actions in the face of a pandemic. Being logical and skipping FOMO could set you up for success.
