It seems as if time has not passed, but no less than twenty years have passed since the launch of Ages of Empires II. Two decades in which the world of video games has evolved to unsuspected limits, but there will always be a genre where, no matter how much time passes, the essence is not lost and that is the strategy. A genre where few games have endured so well the passage of time and where the Ages of Empires saga has always stood out above the rest of its competitors giving players hours and hours of fun.

Beyond Ages of Empires II HD Edition

It is possible that, due to the time of the game, there are still people who do not understand or know what Ages of Empires is, so we can summarize it in a real-time strategy game which is based on the collection of resources and the historical evolution of civilization where buildings and combat units that improve from one era to another.

At this point it is not necessary to present Ages of Empires II so we will focus on all the news, which are not few, offered by this final edition. First, we have to remember that during the year 2013 a review of the game in HD saw the light, but unfortunately the only novelty that came to us was an improvement in the resolution of the title to 1267x712. Fortunately, the bet we are facing goes beyond an improvement in resolution up to 4K, but we will find many more incentives.

To conquer the fun

This new reissue of the classic does not come alone, but, as we have mentioned, it lands with a large amount of content outside the original. Therefore, fans should be in luck because it contains not only the main game campaigns, but also its first expansion The Conquerors (2001) and the extensions of the HD version, namely The Forgotten (2013), The African Kingdoms ( 2015) and The Rise of the Rajas (2016). All this gives us a total of only 27 historical campaigns. Without forgetting the four new civilizations that will join the other 31. Some improvements and intuitive faces of the interface and operation have also been improved.

The work done by Forgotten Empires is undoubtedly remarkable showing users a simply perfect remastering of the original game that appeared two decades ago. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is a breath of fresh air to a genre somewhat diminished today in video games but that certainly would seem to have returned to remain the fans of the saga those who enjoy this second edition. But those who have not had the opportunity to discover it are facing the best time to enter the magical world of Age of Empires.
