The Meh Man

avatar

I was in the mood for a movie tonight so I figured to check out if there was anything new worth watching on Netflix.

After some browsing I decided to go for The Grey Man, a 2022 action film which is based on a 2009 novel of the same name that I had never heard before by Mark Greaney who I also never heard before, lol.

The movie had a somewhat good rating on IMDB and it stars Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling so I figured it couldn't be that bad, despite being a Netflix release, which is mostly known for releasing poop.

Here's the plot summary from IMDB:

When the CIA's most skilled operative-whose true identity is known to none-accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets, a psychopathic former colleague puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins.

I guess for Netflix's standards this film was a masterpiece.

But seriously, it wasn't total crap. Just another mediocrity. Which is a pity cause when it comes to the special effects, action scenes and visuals overall, it looks like it costed a shit ton of money. And yeah, after checking wikipedia..200 million total budget. Holy fuck 😂

So yeah, other than the action scenes which were pretty good this was a pretty much a forgettable movie. The plot.. we have seen it a million times and the writing often felt dumb. The acting was okay I guess, although Chris Evans felt a bit out of role and cringy. Playing the wacko bad guy definitely not his thing.

Anyways, tldr. Not total crap, but definitely a wasted opportunity considering the budget. A forgettable, fast paced action film to kill two hours of your life. I'll give it a 6 out of 10.

I started the movie but slept off halfway.

Then read on Eric's blog that it was just there and did not continue.

Maybe, I will just decide to finish it

Sounds like the film deserves to be given a chance.

If it's good, I'll watch YT reactions to it afterwards, I'm doing that anyway with some movies and never thought I'd get a taste for it.

I watched it the same day it was released just because of Chris Evans aka our Captain America and Ryan gosling or my crush Ana de Armas!

The whole movie is insane - after john wick, 6 underground this one is too good and literally the cinematics in movie or storyline is mind blowing!

From cast to production or action - 10/10 a truly masterpiece.

Good thing i believe it will have a second part but we gotta wait for quite long.

I enjoyed this movie honestly. But my standards have been brought down a lot from all the crap that's been coming out lol

The look of Captain America with a mustache is completely different, he has become like Mexicans.

It saddens me to see car crashes. But from the trailer I expect it to be interesting and exciting even though it repeats the same idea. When you see how much they spent on it, you hate movies.
It's a pity to spend all this on entertainment only

I watched this over the weekend too. Not bad. I've definitely seen worse. Like you said,

That about sums it up!

Yeah. I did not think I was going to like it as well as I did. I've already considered rewatching it. It's true. That's not the Chris Evans we're used to, but I think he managed pretty well because I don't think he was acting.

I wasn’t impressed with this one at all. Watched it at a friends house. We did more drinking then watching at some point.

It's an overhyped action film. I watched it last week. The exaggerated scenes may be welcome in terms of action scenes, but what I liked the most was the acting of Chris Evans, who adapted to the villain role by getting rid of the Captain America character.

I also wrote my thoughts after watching the film :)

I found him cringy 😂

The Gray man could be an interesting movie. Especially with a huge budget, it's worth looking !

Maybe more like square root. I don't know what Netflix was thinking, personally. I couldn't watch that far into the movie myself. I stopped when the Meh Man said, "my gun jammed" after he said a kid was in the way.

not total crap but a bit smelly :)
These days I mainly watch stuff that has 8 or above score on imbd because anything below it's mostly crap

I am not a movie person first of all, I had heard a lot about this movie and was all getting hyped until I read your post here hahaha.

To show you that I am not a movie person, I tried signing up for a Netflix account yesterday and I was shocked they did not give me an option of the free version, they wanted me to choose a plan!

I was like yo, hold it, my registration stopped on that choose your plan page hahaha and I closed the browser hahaha.

I am not ready to kill my two hours hahaha

Thanks for the recommendation. After I read your post, I went to have a view at the movie! Not too bad! Yes, forgettable plot you are right. It is basically a movie that you will enjoy but will not remember, not those blockbuster that you will remember after years, months, weeks or perhaps even days! Haha

You're not wrong, I watched this a few days ago and already forgot, seeing your post got me like what was this movie about again?

Ha, I kind of still love the shits popping out of Netflix, in a weird way, even though I'm mostly bored out 40 minutes in.

Yeah it definitely felt like one of those movies where there was probably a ton of CGI, several several cameras on cranes on some sort of racing track. There was a shoot-out at a town-square that was a bit ridiculous but it truly felt like a genuine attempt to make an action blockbuster from the 90s and early 2000s. Unfortunately, Ryan Gosling seems to exude less and less star-power as his career goes on and what impressed me most was Chris Evans role as a comedic psychopath.

it was crap, big one. I hoped that Ryan would keep doing relative good movies, like Blade Runner 2049 or Drive, but no, he had to return to crap like Lalaland and the notebook.
