Next Colony: Mutiny Chapter 8, Page 10

With the Yamato Revolution well under way, and the Nemesis Season quickly approaching, Jack Steel felt a great responsibility to maintain a sense of order throughout the Genesis Starfleet. To his great fortune, his sidekick Vice Admiral Maxwell had joined him on Genesis5 where Mr. Steel already enjoyed the company of his father-figure, Chief Science Officer Brady. Mr. Brady pleaded with Admiral Steel to allow him to return to simply working in the Research Center. The idea to promote him to Commodore was Jack's, but it was for the purpose of sharing the secret Project NextColony files with him. Now that the files were declassified, and the rumors of mutiny had subsided, the Chief wanted to return his attention to his greatest passion - science. Jack obviously did want to insist on Officer Brady keeping his rank, and so reinstated him as Chief Science Officer, on the condition that he accompany Jack to whatever future Starbases the Admiral decided to transfer himself to. The Chief agreed without hesitation.

Meanwhile, on Starbase Genesis2...

Captain Dixon was certainly happy to be back in command of Genesis2, and eagerly awaited the coming Nemesis Season. Paying close attention to the surrounding planets, he has taken notice to a former foe who seems to have been missing in action for some time now. All the while, however, the resources on that Starbase have become very plentiful, hence the temptation to begin sending some Resource Recovery Missions. First, however, he would need to run this by the Admiral.

  • Computer, open a channel to Starbase Genesis5, Admiral Steel's quarters.

Channel ready

Captain Dixon, a pleasure to hear from you! It's been some time!

  • Indeed it has, Admiral. Hope I'm not disturbing you.

Of course not, how can I help you?

  • Admiral, now that we are rebuilding our fleet here in the Beta Quadrant, we have begun to send a limited amount of Resource Recovery Missions, so as to keep the Mission Slots mostly available for the explorations. This requires us to choose planets closer to our location.

Makes sense, Captain; do you need more Missions Slots?

  • No, Sir. I'm actually looking at an Uncommon Uranium Planet only 4.47 sectors galactic northwest of us at coordinates -263/-115.

Is it abandoned, Captain?

  • I'm not sure, Admiral, but our database shows almost no activity. The problem is that there is a fleet there that would have to be destroyed first. I felt it necessary to run it by you first.

A fleet?! Sounds a little risky. Do you have enough ships to handle this mission?

  • Not yet, Sir; but if you give me the go ahead, I will contact Commodore Curione, and have the necessary fleet built and deployed to me. It would give us a great advantage to get those resources, Admiral.

Very well then, proceed with caution! Admiral Steel out!
