Next Colony: Nemesis Chapter 9, Page 16

The news that Jack Steel had been captured and imprisoned could not be kept hidden from Lieutenant Anthony Rafalski. The Cryptoriddler had sent out a galactic-wide message announcing that the men responsible for releasing of the secret Project NextColony files, were being ransomed to the highest bidder. The Lieutenant sprung into action, knowing that now there would be a new wave of sympathizers from throughout the Genesis Starfleet.

In the Control Room, tensions were high as Captain Davis tried to digest the situation and come up with a plan for how to get the Admiral and Vice Admiral out of the perilous circumstances they found themselves in. Just as was expected, Lieutenant Rafalski stormed into the Control Room, flanked by dozens of his supporters.

  • Captain Davis, this is an outrage!

Lieutenant Rafalski, please, not now! This is no time for us to argue and be divided.

  • Of course not, Sir; but this could have all been avoided. Now it's only gotten worse!

Lieutenant, just so you and you followers know, Admiral Steel went to The Cryptoriddler because he knew that you were planning on taking the Yamatos and attacking Starbase P2. If you, and the men who went through the horrible experience that you went through, were not so hellbent on revenge, the Admiral and Vice Admiral would not have made such a desperate decision!

  • What are you saying, Sir? That... that can't be true. I thought they agreed with our plan?!

Your plan would have only lead to a huge unwinnable war. Did you know that The Cryptoriddler was part of the DachColony Alliance? Do you really think we can challenge one of the strongest, and most dangerous forces, in the galaxy?! Did you know that it was Jack Steel who helped us arrange a truce with the DachColony Alliance?!

  • Captain, Sir, I'm... I'm really sorry... I didn't know all of these things. What are we going to do now?

I don't know, Lieutenant, but we have to come up with something quickly. Some subspace chatter is suggesting that Dread Lord Mancer may have already paid the ransom, and wants to put on a public execution of both Jack and John!

  • No... no, no, this can't be happening! We have to do something! Captain, listen, we can use the Yamatos to attack The Cryptoriddler as a distraction. Me and my men can slip by and head down to the surface to find a way to free our leaders!

That's a suicide mission, Lieutenant!

  • No, Captain, hear me out. That's exactly how First Class saved us! The Yamatos are so fast that we will arrive before The Cryptoriddler has a chance to launch his fleet. We can send down some rescue pods with each wave of attacks and build an army on the ground.

And no body knows the terrain better than you!!!

  • Exactly, Sir! We spent months in the nearby caves, studying the Base. We know how to get in and out, with the exception of the Shipyard. The Cryptoriddler's fleet is heavily guarded. But perhaps we can use the rescue pods to get off of the surface.

And go where? Those rescue pods are not designed for long distance travel.

  • I don't know, Captain? But it's a first step. If we can't get off the planet, we'll take the Admiral and First Class to the caves, and await a rescue mission.

There's something you need to know, Lieutenant. Jack was planning on explaining the whole situation to The Cryptoriddler, in hopes of eliciting some empathy. What if The Cryptoriddler knows about the caves, and the rescue mission? He won't fall for the same trick twice.

  • We have to try, Captain. If it means risking my life, so be it! If it weren't for First Class, me and my men would still be in those caves; or maybe even dead!!!

All the men in the Control Room stood to their feet in a show of solidarity. Everyone stepped forward, and offered themselves as volunteers for the mission. The Captain looked into each crew member's eyes, searching for any signs of fear or hesitation.

Okay, men. I understand the situation. You have my blessings to lead this mission, Lieutenant. I hope you know what you are doing.

  • Don't worry, Captain, we never leave our men behind, ISN'T THAT RIGHT BOYS?!

YES SIR!!!
