The Hill of Rome

Hello to all dear friends.

A lawyer from Rome commissioned me a watercolor depicting one of the Roman hills: the hill of Monte Mario.

First I asked him for some pictures of the hill, even with some interesting details.

He sent me some pictures from his studio window.

Here are the photographs!

What about it, very simple and unartistic photos, soulless inside.

He told me that he's a lawyer and not a photographer!

Okay, I thought it was really hard to paint a watercolor from 3 photographic subjects like that.

I didn't have time to go to Rome to do a photo report and I told him that I interpreted the photographs in the nineteenth-century way.

As you can see I curled up the hill of Monte Mario with warm colors and the farmhouse placed at the bottom I painted it more aged.

I painted country roads, with typical hill trees: giant pines.

But to give a soul to the painting I sought help in the sky!

I had fun painting the clouds, alternating with the sun.

A game of colors right above the top of the hill where the astronomical observatory is based.

With many shades of green and red ocre I gave warmth to this hill defaced by Roman fires and neglect.

The end result really pleased the lawyer.

I hope you like this 19th-century landscape too.

La collina di Roma

Ciao a tutti cari amici.

Un avvocato di Roma mi ha commissionato un acquarello raffigurante una delle colline romane: la collina di Monte Mario.

Per prima cosa gli ho chiesto qualche fotografia della collina, anche con dei particolari interessanti.

Mi ha inviato alcune foto scattate dalla finestra del suo studio.

Ecco le fotografie!

Che dire a riguardo, foto molto semplici e poco artistiche, senza anima dentro.

Lui mi ha risposto che di mestiere fa l'avvocato e non il fotografo!

Ok, ho pensato che fosse veramente difficile dipingere un acquarello da 3 soggetti fotografici del genere.

Non avevo tempo per andare a Roma a fare un reportage fotografico e gli ho detto che interpretavo le fotografie alla maniera ottocentesca.

Come potete vedere ho arriccchito la collina di Monte Mario con colori caldi e il casale posto in basso l'ho dipinto più invecchiato.

Ho dipinto delle strade di campagna, con alberi tipici della collina: i pini giganti.

Ma per dare un anima al dipinto ho cercato aiuto nel cielo!

Mi sono divertito a dipingere le nuvole, alternate al sole.

Un gioco di colori proprio sopra la sommità della collina dove ha sede l'osservatorio astronomico.

Con molte tonalità di verde e ocre rosse ho dato calore a questa collina deturpata dagli incendi romani e dall'incuria.

Il risultato finale è piaciuto veramente tanto all'avvocato.

Spero che questo paesaggio ottocentesco piaccia anche a voi.
