Waking up to the most annoying sound ever!

This morning I woke up at four a clock due to a very alarming non-stop screeching sound outside. Our window is quite close to our outside wall and next door is an empty plot with lovely trees and an open field. We have a lovely sea view and it's usually a bliss to wake up and look at the ocean but this morning I was not so happy.  

At first I thought I was just dreaming or that a mosquito was having a fit somewhere, but the sound just went on and on up to a point where I couldn't stand it anymore. It felt like the sound went on forever.   

I was not happy to see that it was only four o clock and tried to sleep again but Mr Cricket decided otherwise.  He must have been practicing for a choir performance because the sound literally went on non-stop for more than ten minutes.  

I know because I timed it.  I finally gave up on sleeping and started searching for the culprit online.  I assume that this is the same type of cricket that woke me up although mine's sound was far more annoying and ongoing than this sound of the mole cricket in this video.  

Apparently mole crickets only come out after heavy rains and use the annoying sound as a call to females. Am I glad I am not a female mole cricket! 

They are not the prettiest little insects but they sure are the most annoying.  Here is a video of the culprit.
