I wanted to take the time to write a more detailed post about our short term and long term plans with OCD and all accounts associated with it.

On a more personal note, I'm a bit disappointed at some things going on on Steem, there's too much selfishness going on and competitiveness between each other instead of working together. Same thing goes for the whole blockchain space in general, there's so much tribalism and fud going on it seems they don't realize that our real enemy are the centralized platforms and services that have been plaguing us for decades. Not to mention the centralized ones pretending to be decentralized...
I hope people will start working together and instead of competing about who is making the most while throwing dirt at each other they will realize that this path will lead to others flying past us while we fight for scraps. It is time to wake up, the bear market may barely be over but for the real projects they're already in a past bear market mindset.
On a brighter note, Steem is still doing really good, we just need to focus on what is really important. If I wasn't still excited about its future and potential I would not still be here and I know the same thing goes for many other Steemians that I know.

Back to OCD.

As you know we have recently restarted our main objective of curating undervalued posts with new authors in focus. We realize there are other curation projects doing similar things but as I mentioned above, we're all working towards the same goal. Curation is important and even more so at a time like this when more and more voting power is being locked up.

Our next steps for OCD will be to re-focus on introduction posts. We have a lot of voting power behind our actions right now thanks to accounts such as @blocktrades and while we may not want to make the same mistakes as our platform did in its early years by providing giant votes to newcomers which caused some damage over time (as users got demoralized seeing their first posts make a lot of rewards and having to wait a long time to see the same results in future posts). We will be attempting to spread our voting power over more posts, but the next step will be to focus on making the #introduceyourself tag great again.

We have been going around the past week contacting dapps that are creating a lot of accounts and seeing if we can collaborate with them to curate legitimate new users. By having them encourage new accounts during the account creation process to start off with an #introduceyourself post we will be keeping an eye on that section and curating posts while mentioning which dapps were the ones creating these. This will hopefully cause a more incentivized process for users that have gotten themselves an account on Steem through dapps but may not have been aware of the whole world that is waiting for them behind the particular dapp. This does not mean we want users to stop their activity on said dapp but raise the acitivty of all other ones they may be interested in using at the same time. Remember we are all sharing the same blockchain.

We will be looking to collaborate with @steemonboarding as well and make sure our activity won't cross paths but that we will be as efficient as possible when it comes to this. While we may give new users a boost in their intro post, we will also be keeping an eye out for their future posts and if they align with the requirements we have set out for original and quality content they will also have a chance to join our ever growing whitelist on @ocdb which can be viewed on our website (warning, may lag on phones until we re-do how the whitelist is viewed). Users on this whitelist will have a chance to grow a bit faster in stake and we are hoping that over time more and more unique daily users will continue to improve the distribution of stake on our platform.

We believe that non-profit services will be the most beneficial for our blockchain. While we have nothing against for profit services and middlemen there are some services that do absolutely not require it for it to work. @ocdb is living proof of that, even though we do spend quite some time on checking that it is not being abused, our rules of being removed from it and not being able to get back onto it are incentive enough for the users on it to make the most of their opportunity to grow and not lose that chance. We are now at almost 4 million SP delegated in total and will be constantly looking to grow and improve our non-profit service.

I have made enough posts in the past about @ocdb so I won't be writing much more about it, if there are questions feel free to ask in the comments but they have probably already been answered in the past.

image.png

After we have started our introduction compilation posts our next plans are to start putting our free account claims to good use which we have been claiming on a regular basis. We are planning on doing so with a third compilation post in mind that we believe will not only bring more attention to Steem but also get a lot of great new users that have been doing something similar to Steem while not being rewarded for it in any way.

The next plans will be to start using the subreddit more and encourage Steem authors to share their posts which we believe is not happening a lot which leads to us just living in a bubble where we are preaching to the choir. Curating authors that actively share their posts and at the same time creating accounts that hear about Steem through our subreddit we hope it will bring a healthy amount of new and similar minded users onto our blockchain. As a long time Redditor I want the others to find out that their activity can be rewarded and their influence can have a higher impact on our platform than the worthless karma points they've been collecting. We intend to follow all the rules with the subreddit, such as only allowing authors to link to their shared posts through non participation links to avoid brigading and not incentivize them to game the upvoting on the subreddits by not curating those that get a lot of reddit upvotes more or more often. We will be having curators looking through the shared posts and curate according to quality, originality and based off their usual rewards similarly to how we curate in general.

When it comes to creating accounts, we will be looking for assistance to also add another incentive to those that have been active on that platform. Depending on how things go with the Steem Foundation/DAO we will be looking to give active Redditors a bonus when joining our blockchain in delegation for a certain period. This will depend on their activity and karma points and if it's comments/engagement and if their post karma points have mostly been acquired by posting their original content. In the spirit of non-profit any assistance to help with this bonus delegation will also be used in a non-profit sort of way. Meaning if we receive a lot of stake to use for this delegation and curation, the rewards coming from that will either be burnt or used to pay for new accounts if they time comes that the free claimed accounts are drying up.

For this last part we hope others are interested in joining and helping out as it is something that will effect all of us. We're all in this together. Even though it will still require a lot of polishing and it's still some time away we will try our best to make it a great onboarding experience and at the same time check that it is not being abused. We understand there are black markets when it comes to most centralized platforms for accounts and will be monitoring the activity of the accounts receiving delegation from us. If there won't be any assistance from a Foundation/DAO for this we will attempt our best to do the same from our projects accounts @ocd @ocd-witness and maybe even our personal accounts if we are seeing a lot of success and demand for this.

We are open to discussing these things with the community so let us know if you have any question, please make sure you kind of understand how Reddit works and why onboarding users through our subreddit would be of value to our blockchain. From a personal note, there's nothing worse than having spent a lot of activity on a website and garnered a lot of points only to find out that not only do they not provide any real world value, but you also get no extra influence from it through curation or attention on your posts. This is something that is important and very different on our blockchain as it has been proven time and time again - sometimes for the worse but more often for the better.

Having put our current plans on the table and looking forward to users giving us their opinion on what they think about it, we also want to take the time to ask you to support us and our activity on the platform. We don't usually promote ourselves much and aren't big fans on bidding for attention, especially when those services aren't non-profit even though they could easily be. Here's how you can support us and our future plans.

Follow @ocd, check the compilation posts every now and then and see if you find users you think you'd be interested in reading more of and give those a follow.

If you don't have time to curate but want to put your stake to good use for a healthy distribution of our platform without enriching us the maintainers directly, delegate to @ocdb and receive a 90% ROI as if you were self-voting daily while the 10% goes to the 3000+ whitelisted authors using the service daily.

Support our witness @ocd-witness. We are all long term holders and looking to be here for a longer time, your support will directly be used to curate and possibly give delegation bonuses to accounts we will be creating for legitimate users in the near future. Every vote counts, we are currently at 2700+ unique users that have voted for our witness and are hoping to see that number increase over 2019.

Thank you so much for reading and everyone that has been supporting our activity in the past, we will be highlighting the users making this all possible in upcoming posts. You guys are really making a change on our blockchain and we hope your altruistic behavior will be rewarded in the near future.

This is good idea to start where any of us start. We need activity of new people, because they can bring with them another new people. In that way we can getting stronger as community and get much diffrent creators with new ideas. I hope it will help steem rise as a decentralized platform!

the #introduceyourself tag has been more like dead really, I think it's a brilliant idea that you're trying to revitalize it with @ocd, really looking forward to it.

You know thisbis music to my ears! I love being on the #introduceyourself posts every day searching for good starts. I have to admit that it has been tough lately as there is really no guide to what is a good introduction post. I think it would be great if @anomadsoul can run one of his contests for that. I tried months ago with a good bounty but was not really engaging. Look forward to helping!

I think we can all agree that people rarely curate content anymore. Unfortunately the hard work of manual curation has been overtaken by automated curation. The more manual curation we have the better for everybody, I because, because we can build up the minnows producing good content and they in turn can do the same in the future.

Unfortunately even automatic curation (sort of like patreon style) is shrinking, not that I was a big proponent of that thus always curated manually as the users on auto often started abusing it with more posts and lower quality long term.

For new people too, I believe all the bot replies are insulting. I want to welcome them with a manual reply based on what they posted specifically. It's a bit depressing that a new and promising user usually gets a ton of bot replies and only a couple real people's replies. It's something I enjoy doing though, and I'll continue to manually hunt for quality people to support and help!

This is great! We are from China, we have encountered such a problem. In such a period, after the users came in, their power was too small to be retained. Of course, we are trying to do something, we are more hoping to do something together.

Thanks for your comment @wherein! Looking forward to see what you guys will do on Steem, I'm delegating some SP to you guys through my alt account and hoping to increase it soon.

We used to curate the chinese language as well but the bear market was quite harsh, we are hoping to get back to it in the near future and find a way to add other languages to @ocdb as well with some supervision.

I don't think there's any downside on coordinated upvote dogpiles on quality #introduceyourself posts to benefit this platform long term. Imagine a system where you could convert a red fish to a minnow after fulfilling some list of requirements. Complete these 5 steps, get 100 steem aggregate upvotes for each step.
In any case, I will make more of an effort to watch that tag.

I don't know much about Reddit, probably I should. I have been thinking of ways to spread my influence across various platforms, so it is definitely worth the try.

@acidyo, It's important to understand the true meaning of Community and as you said with combined efforts and focus towards one effective step can push our Economy towards the main focus and visibility step by step.

Definitely we have to concentrate towards new users and specially when someone get warm welcome in community that effect stays for long which inturn will help in Retention. Keep up. 👍

I really like the idea of kicking some life into the #introduceyourself tag, and particularly getting the various app front ends onboard with the importance of newcomers using it as an initial "toehold" here.

Steem seems to have four primary phases where support is particular important:

  • The initial bump where a nice recognition of an introductory post gives a newcomer inspiration.

  • A second bump to help new arrivals who "want to go somewhere" past RC worries, and to the point where their upvote adds more than ZERO to a post's rewards (currently seems to be about 40-50SP).

  • Stage 3 (where I currently am) which is getting to Minnowhood and potentially to where a standalone 100% upvote on a comment (for example) won't result in a "loss" to the dust threshold. Initially 500SP, and then on to currently (it seems) about 800-1000SP.

  • Fourth, where you become part of (at least) the frequently mentioned "Middle Class" where you have enough SP start actively giving back to those up at first point in this cycle, with curation and small delegations.

But I suppose what matters most in all this is encouraging those (which requires a lot of manual curation) who see Steem as a longer term opportunity, rather than just a glorified "cash machine" from which they liquidate and "export" their rewards, every week. I don't begrudge anything thinking it's cool to get pizza money every week, but I really do wish there was a way to "high level train" people to think of their Steem experience more as long term savings account, rather than just a place to make money.

I do really like the idea that OCD/OCDB help newcomers, particularly if that assistance serves to lay a more solid foundation in the community. It's great that we promote Steem externally, but that will only do so much unless "there is something here" worth both coming and staying for.

Well... I've gone on way too much, already!

=^..^=

Agree on the sentiment that we should all be working together, doing our little bits towards a common goal, instead of scrambling for back-pats but I think, like you, there are still a lot of good in Steem (and Steemit) and I'm feeling positive also about the future :D

As for the introduceyourself tag curation, have you heard about @brittandjosie's and @xcountytravelers' curation compilations under @heyhaveyamet publications? I've been following them for a while and I think there might be some synergy here :)

Here is an example of their latest post: https://steemit.com/community/@heyhaveyamet/have-ya-met-the-weekend-edition-please-read-with-us-and-show-the-newcomers-some-love

But yes, I think, with retaining new users, there is a LOT of learning curve with this platform and i think.... if we can help users understand 'reward' versus 'entitlement' and how they can be a great Steemian who gives and takes from the platform in a healthy relationship, that'd be SUPER~ \o/

Awesome post, Cid, I love the message 100% :)

The steep learning curve for new people is the main reason I started going through the introduceyourself and introducemyself posts. I wanted to help the people who showed promise with starting tips and tricks. The security issues were also discussed to make sure they didn't make bad mistakes. For example, I was using my master key for a long time... LOL

There will always be a place for centralized authority, but blockchain offers an alternative for places decentralized works better. Arguing with eachother is silly, since it isn't zero-sum. The same is true for different blockchains. But we don't really need 10000 of them doing the same thing or new chains with minor changes. This is why they need to be distributed so you don't get biases from greedy stakeholders.

Helping with introduceyourself seems good. I don't think I ever used that tag and my first post sucked, not that I care too much. I did onboard someone recently and to be honest the number of spammers and scammers using that tag attracted was scary. I don't blame people for wanting to help or jumping on fresh meat, but seriously there is no coordinated effort. Perhaps someone should create a guide for first-time posters and then ask them to do a questionnaire for 2nd post or just simple comment reply, then the separate communities can jump in based on that. For example, if I tick yes to music, but no to gambling, this is important information.

This bot is great, I plan to increase my delegation to OCD. I figured this part out and I don't want to delegate to people who annoy anymore even if it is more profitable. In the end OCD is more profitable because it is doing good.

We believe that non-profit services will be the most beneficial for our blockchain.

Very well said. We have the same point of view. About a year ago, I started giving away free upvotes to those who will start posting on our topic of the day all about the bible.

Although some are still arguing on this matter we can't give away free money to everyone because on the vast oceans of the internet, someone will be abusing it.

2 years ago, I very well remembered, how my first #introduceyourself was upvoted to $40. And yeah, it was given me a real motivation to pursue here up unto this day. I believe on what you have written here @acidyo

Excellent initiative! I expected nothing less from you! I honestly never used reddit. But as a compulsive internet browser I must have some account created somewhere.

Very wise idea to support the #introduceyourself, it's good that newcomers feel welcome. Steem is very different from what the internet is used to and its way of cataloguing information can be a bit confusing.

An appropriate incentive to new users can make the difference between an active new Steemian and an abandoned account.

I see with pleasure how many communities are turning to attract new users. Just like you at Reddit, a few weeks ago I started to shape a community campaign for social networks (Only twitter for the moment but I plan to expand when the organization is polished and the staff organized).

The work of @steemonboarding far surpassed my expectations. I didn't expect so many videos or that they would cover so many languages! I would like some special video for social networks, those that last a few seconds, maybe a minute.

I would like to count on you this Monday to use the #Steem tag on twitter, from 12 noon to 18pm using also the #OpTren tag as well as giving RT to the @SteemOnboarding account. (OpTren means trending operation)

With limited time @acidyo, but still very interested in the Steem blockchain and all efforts to add value to it, I would like to take my own involvement one step at a time. From your last @ocdb post, I learned about the value of its overall mission, as well as being on its whitelist. Soon thereafter, I began delegating to @ocdb, to do my small part in support of your efforts to help other Steemians.

That was some time ago and neither the two Steemians I nominated or I (who received a nomination) are on the list.

My question is simple. Does that mean we were rejected? Or the time to get to them all is still a "work-on-progress?" If there is something you've written somewhere to answer these questions, I would be very grateful for a link.

Thank you!

However? Freedom. Is something worth investing in.

Just did 100 sp delegation! Thanks and do delegqtors get on the white list?

Next up upvote bids... Tell me more?

Or got a discord?

Voting and keep up growing Steemit!

I'm installing members and teaching them blockchain and investing and growing here. @theplayersclub is really growing! Love it! Thanks!

Tribalism? Can't help but also retort this is a bigger world than small pond drama and bully behavior.

Stay positive! Steem on!

Your initiative really helped me a ton in the beginning, and I cannot thank you enough for it. I took a break because of all the drama, but here I am again.

No other social media site compares to Steemit. This place combined with GINAbot is the easiest way for me to find the content I want and have conversations with people about that content.

In the past I would spend a couple hours every single day during the work week looking through the introduceyourself and introducemyself new posts looking for quality people to help and welcome.

Heck, I wrote a long detailed reply with vital new account information as well, and my replies were not a bot. It was me reading their post, interacting with them based on that post, and then simply adding the beginner help to the end.

If I posted a reply, I always followed them too!

As a PI I love going through those sections for another reason. It's a bit like people watching, and I enjoy doing it to improve Steemit. While going through the posts, I will also look for tag or other abuse to report to steemcleaners.org.

Thanks for all you have done and continue to do, @acidyo and your team! This place has benefited greatly because of it. If you need any help, please let me know. I'm already going through the posts manually on most days, so perhaps I could help further while doing it.

I've offered to assist @Steemcleaners in the past too, and that offer still stands as well!

I definitely agree i just found out everyone on steem can just use smartsteem and other dapps to upvote their own stuff even if they dont have bots. Ig most people just pay and upvote their stuff without supporting the community. That seems backwards and the community is much less strong as a result i believe then when i first found it like a year ago. Thanks so much for the support! Let me know if there is anything i can do to help

I haven't read through all but I got touched by your premise. Yes, we should focus on what's going right and exert all effort to focus on doing that despite the distractions and bickering happening around.

Yes, having more curators on the lookout for undervalued posts is what the platform needs.

caused some damage over time (as users got demoralized seeing their first posts make a lot of rewards and having to wait a long time to see the same results in future posts)

And this was the statement that I had to pause and write this reply. You're spot on with this.

I also went through that emotional rollercoaster. This doesn't have to be the case for newcomers.

I hope that what you have in plans in addressing this will push through and succeed. Will wait for further updates on the O.C.D. project.

You nailed it. But it's human nature to form groups and exclude others. Heck it's best observed in Nature even. Actions speak louder than words and positive Steem growth will help with people like you and initiatives like OCD being started back up again!

I think I unvoted your witness for OCD. I think it was for inactivity. Does this post mean OCD is back as witness or did y'all ever stop?

@acidyo I was a newbie once and without the help I got I wouldn’t have been here anymore!
That’s why I am dedicated to tho intro tag

BUT

Why isn’t the introduce yourself tag not in the search list on mobile and iPad for instance!
Intro needs to be easy accessible! Than more people would visit the tag.

UNTILL

Than we at @heyhaveyamet will search manually😉
