Landemic: A CryptoKitties for land? You can be an early adopter

avatar

Landemic (https://landemic.io) is a land rush Ethereum token where you buy tiles from a map of the Earth. Each tile covers approximately 275 x 275 m², which is about the size of Buckingham Palace. Purchasing a new tile costs a penny, but you can change the price later. At this moment the most expensive land is at Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur ($19,016.30). The White House for example costs $13,842.47.

Times Square at this moment has a value of $346.06

Token Details
Landemic tokens are ERC-721-compatible contracts on Ethereum. When you buy a Landemic token, you are buying an 8-character Google Plus Code which represents a rectangle of land on Earth. Your code entitles you to a space roughly the size of a city block on the Landemic Map. From there you can buy and sell tiles as well as earn bounties from other players.

Contract Mechanics
In addition to standard ERC-721 functions, the Landemic contract has some extra features to make for a lively marketplace:
Initial Price: Tiles have an initial price of $0.01, denominated in ether. The proceeds from the sale of these tiles go to the developers of Landemic. We reserve the right to change this initial price in the future based on market demand or the price fluctuations of ether.

Automatic resales: Because the goal of Landemic is to keep an active, informational marketplace, we want to avoid a situation where tiles remaining dormant because the owner lost their wallet. As a result, every tile on Landemic is automatically resellable on the Landemic Map, according to the resale multiple.

Resale Multiple: The resale multiple sets a range for what Landemic tiles can be resold for. The default is 10 times the last price it was purchased for on Landemic. Note: the multiple does not take into account purchase prices outside on 3rd-party marketplaces. The highest multiple is 100 times, and the lowest is one-tenth. We assume most people will not change the default, and we set it to 10 to provide a reasonable consolation should someone return to Landemic and discover they no longer own their tiles.

Marketplace Commission: While the standard way to buy and sell ERC-721 tokens is to use marketplaces, such as OpenSea or Rare Bits, the recommended method is through our 1st-party marketplace, the Landemic Map, so that you can take advantage of the higher liquidity. 5% of the sale price for existing tiles goes to the developer, and 5% goes to each of the owners of the neighboring tiles, for a possible total of 25% in commissions.

My experience:

PROS:

  • The game is really new, just some weeks since it was launched
  • Buying the first tiles is as cheap as $0.01 (in Ethereum)
  • When you have bought the tile for $0.01 automatically the sell price is 10x bigger and you have the chance to change its price for free (just need some gas) 10x more. So if you buy for $0.01 you can sell it then for aprox $1.00. If you buy for $0.10 then you can sell it for $10
  • Easy to do the transaction with tools like Metamask
  • You can see the transactions throught Etherscan
  • Only 49 owners at the moment, so for just some dollars you can buy good properties that if the game succeeds will have a great value in the near future
  • It works with a good map, supported by Google Plus Codes
  • Listed on State of DApps
  • No account needed

CONS:

  • Really poor White Paper
  • No promo plan at all
  • Twitter account with a few followers
  • No contact info
  • Buying a tile for 0.01 with MetaMask will mean expending more eth in gas than the $0.01 cost

CONCLUSIONS:

I've never ever been an early adopter. I've entered some games in the first weeks for example Next Colony or Drugwars, but not exactly an early adopter. Seeing how the game is growing, I'm confident that it can have a mass adoption so being an early adopter will be very important. It needs a good promo and some "big players" but also a better interface where you can see who sells and who buys every property to make it more attractive.

I'm not gonna say to you that is the best game to earn money because at the moment I've only earn some dollars, but believe me that if it has a big success the scalability of the game will be thrilling.

If you want to play to Landemic you just need an Eth wallet like Metamask, you don't have to create any account so all you buy and sell will be in a contract in your Ethereum Wallet.

Are you gonna try it?

P.S.: I've no relation with the owners of the game, just have like the idea and hope it can succeed.
