Some things don't change.

I watched a Netflix show last week called, "Damnation". It's one i had never heard of before but I have to say that I really got into it.

"Damnation" is a period drama based on an actual Iowa farmers' strike in the 1930s. The story centers on Seth Davenport (Killian Scott), an eloquent preacher who stirs up farmers in a small Iowa town into holding a strike against the banks threatening to foreclose their lands. The situation seems stacked against the farmers, however: The media refuses to report their story. The town's own sheriff (Christopher Heyerdahl) shies away from protecting them to prevent damage to his reelection campaign. Their fellow farmers who haven't joined their ranks sabotage them. Even worse, the banks send to town Creeley Turner (Logan Marshall-Green), a strikebreaker known for his ruthlessness.

I love finding a good series but for the most part try to find ones with a lot of episodes or preferably completed so that i can watch all the way through over a few weeks. I've seen most of the main ones at this stage so the options are running out and this one looked fairly decent from the intro.

It only has the one series which usually turns me off but I delved into it regardless. Have to say it's a really good show even if the plot falls away a bit by the end of the series. I won't give anything away but the general story behind it is,

  • Banks and business holders fix the markets to make a profit.
  • They drive out small businesses and landholders to take their property.
  • Bring in strike breakers to kill off any opposition from the masses.
  • The masses use their numbers to band together and make their own markets.
  • Media is bough off to prevent the protests from gaining more momentum.
  • Take their products out of the established system so that profit can be shared amount the value providers.
  • Leads to a a stand off between people wanting to earn a fair wage for their work and the banks wanting them to work at a loss to make more money.

It's funny how a program based on real events 90 years ago can sound very familiar to our current situation right now. A lot of these statements could be taken to describe crypto and it's fight to gain control from the banking system that is taking advantage of the workers of the current day.

While the show didn't get the highest reviews on rottentomatoes from the critics it has a 91% from the public and I did enjoy it. My main gripe was how it ended as the show really needed a 2nd series to fill out the storyline.

I liked it though and think it's worth a watch.

Peaky blinders is a great show. The first few seasons are brilliant. Watched it a few years back. I'll need to go back to it for the latest series at some stage.

You do the same as us - Wait for the entire series before watching. Assits the binge-watching habit we have. 😂

Nothing worse than starting something and then waiting for the next series one episode at a time. I like to watch all the way through and get invested into the show.
