The castle of keys today is used as a weapons museum and in turn, has undergone several interventions so that today it remains in good condition in addition to its long gardens there are still many traces of our ancestors
Well yesterday I introduced the castle in a very general way, and today I decided to write a little of what I know about the castle so I will give you a short summary along with photos so you can enjoy it while you read.
It was a great pleasure to have been there

Castelo de Chaves is located in the city of Saved and in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, in the municipality of Villarreal, Portugal. In an advantageous area on the banks of the Tâmega river, it defends the border with Galicia. Based on existing archaeological evidence, the primitive occupation of human beings in the area can be traced back to prehistoric times.

Due to bad weather in the area, some of the surrounding walls collapsed in 2001. About a week after the reconstruction, the fortress collapsed again. Despite 450,000 Euros (the cost of reconstruction work) - dangerous, the investigation carried out by the City Council found no one responsible. Contractors, architects, chambers of commerce or the Portuguese Institute of Architectural Heritage that approved the project are not responsible for it. The investigation determined that the reason for the collapse was that there was no restoration from corner to corner, and the upper space of the fortress without the small garden was not restored. The bidding for the new reconstruction project started in 2004 and the project was completed in 2007.

Of course, it dates back to the ancient Roman castle. When Rome invaded the Iberian Peninsula, the current Chavez was an important center of the city, and the archaeological remains have proved it. Since 78, it has been the seat of the municipality founded by Tito Flávio Vespasiano and receives the name of its rich thermal waters and the name of Aquae Flaviae. To cross both sides of the river, cross the Roman road that connects Bracara Augusta (today Braga) and Asturica Augusta (today, Astorga, Spain), Trajan's bridge was built and its history goes back to the first century. , It is limited to the historic city center, where the main church is built.

From the 3rd century on, the city became the site of the Suevos invasion, highlighting the struggle between Remismundo and Frumário, who disputed the throne and almost destroyed the entire village. Finally, Frumário won and arrested the BishopIdáciode button. The north and the Visigoths will succeed until the Muslims arrive in the early 8th century, defeating Rodrigo, the last Visigoth king. While the conflict between Moors and Christians continued into the 11th century, the new conquerors will strengthen Chavez's fortifications.
