Christmas Cards and Gingerbread Men

I know… I know… I should have been writing out Christmas cards, signing them all with little swirly letters, almost my signature language, or wrapping gifts, catching up on phone calls or even taking up the hem on a dress. But, no… I reached my hand into the drawer where all the movies are secreted and pulled out “Pay it Forward.” Oh! We all know how it ends, oh so poorly, with Haley Joel Osment dying in the end, but, it is the premise of the movie that I find irresistible.

Pay it Forward

The world can seem like an inhospitable, intimidating place, yet we all want safety, health, and happiness for our loved ones and ourselves. How can one ordinary person… you or me… make a positive difference in this world? One way is the practice of “paying it forward” While the steps might be simple, the outcome could change the world. Do it today. Do something for someone you don’t know, or you don’t know well. If the person wants to repay you for your kindness, tell them to do something for three people that they don’t know… You got it. The idea is to consciously increase the goodness of the world. Little by little. They even have a Pay It Forward Day and a Pay it Forward Foundation. Honest. But, why wait? What better day to start than today? You can read about the Foundation here.

Magic, lights, and glitter spilling onto my thoughts— at The Wigle's House. What is your favorite part of Christmas the raises it up and starts it spinning? For me, it is the magic, the transformation. So beautiful to see all of our worlds through different eyes. I have gotten to see Christmas around the world and it leaves me breathless. It is amazing, different and yet so much the same.

And truth be told, it is the anticipation of things to come. How this season of joy works miracles the soul.

It's not the baubles, glitter or sparkles that light up my tree; it's the homemade love that was made just for me. Each and every single one has a memory or a story attached to it. I reach out and touch one, warming me up, right down to my toes. Have a fabulous day — Under the Christmas Tree

It's the moments for me. Snippets. A hot steaming cup of love, dressed as coffee. That is what met me this morning. It couldn't have been any more perfect, nor more perfectly made. I'm grateful to have people like this in my life. Giving from the heart usually doesn't cost a cent, but, you usually cannot put a price on all that love anyway. Give of yourself. I don't need things. I just need to be loved or appreciated or shared with. It is not like I don't enjoy a well-placed gift. I recieve with great joy too, but not because it's Christmas, but, because you saw something that reminded you of me, or you secretly knew I wanted it - or something. Some people wait all year to give and do it with such grand gestures. While impressive, I personally prefer the smaller things that mean a lot. I am embarrassed by the thought of someone spending great amounts of money just to show me they like me or appreciate me or because it is Christmas. Not to say I am ungrateful, just feel bad that you feel you need to spend big amounts of money. I like warm hugs on a cold night. Just saying.

You know, you are right in that it seems odd that we wait until one time of the year to begin to do nice things for people, strangers included, when we really should be doing it year round. I think it shows how caught up we get in every day life and, sometimes, just trying to make it through each day. But, we do have this time every year to remind us of what is important, and to bring out all the shiney's and old hand-made decorations that never fail to bring smiles to our faces.

Hehe... Well, it is just too hard to resist. :)

I do love my ornaments, but, honestly, it has been a collection in the making since I was a kid. The handmade ones, of course, the kids. :) It just wouldn't be a tree without a little handmade love. I honestly try to slow down and see what is going on around me, especially on the streets and shelter (I volunteer one evening a week at a shelter, sometimes breakfast time, but, they are kind enough to be flexible for my schedule from hell)

Anyway... that was a mouthful and hihi. More than one needs to know or want to know, am I right? LOL Anyway, I have found them to be the most interesting of people, their stories as varied as they are familiar. So, slow down, you move to fast and inhale the magic around you. But, look who I am talking to? Santa Claus incarnate. Pfft.

Fantastic read. If we all just pay it forward a little there wouldn't be so much need. I love to reminisce over the years Christmas things. So many memories. Love the kitty photo.

Such beautiful images and I do love the concept of Payit forward and I try to do something regularly in that vain but its bene at least. Week or two since I have so I herby commit to go out of my way and make sure I do today
